The Mark of My Mate

Dinner was surprisingly pain free. The night was filled with laughter and chatting back and forth. It was nice to have a family dinner after a long time away. Gavin held my hand under the table the whole time, giving it small I love you squeezes from time to time. I sat across from Alex and his mate Chelsea all night. 

 I got to know Chelsea quite well. Growing up, she actually attended school with Alex until junior high. When she moved away right before high school she new that something didn't feel right. When she graduated last year she knew that she needed to move back. She felt so relieved when she saw Alex last night, she knew that she was destined to be with him since she was 7.

 “I’m so glad that I found Alex, I knew he was out there somewhere, I just wasn’t sure when I would find him. That’s why I knew I needed to come to the party once I heard about it.” She told us all about her family and upbringing, she was so excited to be joining our pack. She was currently studying medicine and hoped to get a job at the pack hospital when she graduates.

 “You could probably get a job as an intern or an assistant at the hospital now while you’re still in school. It could lead into a potential job when you’re ready.” Chelsea lit up at my suggestion, “that’s a fantastic idea, I’ll try to stop by tomorrow and ask around. Thanks Stella.” I shrugged at my brilliance. 

There came a point in the night when I could feel my mood start to change. I chalked it up to my classic ability to over analyze things. I kind of felt that I was being replaced. I knew my mother was proud that I found my mate but at the end of the day, I would be leaving home forever. The more Chelsea talked about a big white wedding and having as many pups at the Goddess wanted to bless her with, the more annoyed I got. 

Chelsea is what I would call a “perfect mate.” She’s gorgeous, petite, and sounds like she’s ready for pups already, she kept saying how she couldn’t wait to help “grow” the pack. Gavin gave me a nod, dinner was dying down now anyway. I just wanted to get into pajamas and lay in my bed. When there was a break in conversation, I pushed myself back from the table and set my napkin on the plate in front of me. “If you’ll excuse us, we’ve had a very long day, we are going to turn in.” I turned to look at Chelsea, “It was such a pleasure meeting you Chelsea.” she smiled at me and nodded, “you too Stella.” I half waved to the rest of the table before Gavin and I headed upstairs.

Gavin had stripped down to his boxers and was laying on my bed watching TV. I went straight to the bathroom to pee and get washed up for bed. Without thinking I walked back out into the bedroom wearing nothing but my bra and panties. **GAVIN’S POV**

**STELLA’S POV**

I must have woken up early, the sun wasn’t up just yet. I glanced over at my phone, it was only 4:30am. I should get up and go train for a couple hours. I was still wrapped in Gavin’s arms as he snored gently behind me. He must have felt me stirring because he nuzzled in closer to my neck, tickling me a bit with his long hair. “Why are you awake my love? It’s still too early.” he mumbled, clearly Gavin was not a morning person. I could feel my high energy already radiating through my muscles. I flipped around in his arms and pressed my nose to his. “Gavin wake up, do you want to go train with me this morning?” He grumbled in his sleep, “Who says your allowed to get out of bed?” he smiled with his eyes closed. I felt his arms constrict a little bit tighter, pulling me closer to him. As much as I would love to lay here all day, I knew that my muscles needed to be stretched out after last night. It was the most amazing moment of my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first time. Suddenly I felt a link form.

Stells, training ring in 20! Be there or be square.

Gavin chuckled, “I heard that and you’re not going anywhere.”

Sorry guys, Stella and I are a little busy at the moment. I’m not releasing her until at least 9!

I was shocked, since when was linked with my brothers? He sensed my surprise because his eyes shot open, “That’s right! Conner let me join last night.” I rolled my eyes and giggled as Gavin started playfully eating at my neck making me squeal. He finally stopped and closed his eyes once more, “You may be strong my love, but I am much stronger. You’ll have to kill me before I let you out of this bed.” I decided to give up and curl up as close as I could to my mate. Who needs training anyway?

Again, shocked that he just linked my thoughts, Gavin opened his eyes “Stella baby, we have officially mated, you’ll never get rid of me, not even in your mind.” He poked the middle of my forehead with his finger. Did he really just poke me?

DAMN IT!

Gavin finally released me around 8:30, it was the longest four hours of my life. Don’t get me wrong, I loved being wrapped up in him, I think I just needed to get used to it. I hopped over to my closet and threw on a purple patterned spandex set before slipping into my running shoes. Gavin was still laying in bed, he was gloriously naked. “Are you going to come running with me?” He chuckled lightly, “didn’t we get enough cardio last night?” he said with a wide grin. I leaned over onto the bed, “Yes, it was a fantastic workout, one that we both enjoyed. But let me put it this way, if you don’t come running with me right now, you won’t be getting any more of that workout routine for a while.” he raised his eyebrows at me.

My eyes flickered with amusement as Gavin flew out of bed and tried to trap me in his arms. He kept missing me by a hair, I guess he forgot how quick I am on my feet. I was giggling like a school girl, I loved being chased I guess. That was definitely a new development. I slipped out of his reach and stepped by the bedroom door, “Hurry up and get dressed, I’ll meet you in the kitchen in 10 minutes.” I blew Gavin a kiss and slipped out the door and sprinted down the stairs to the kitchen. I was practically skipping as I walked over to the fridge, my curly pony tail bouncing along with me. 

Mother and Noni were sitting at the kitchen island sipping on some herbal tea. “Well aren’t you in a good mood this morning.” Mother said as I opened the fridge. “She’s also humming,” Noni added. I grabbed an apple and a bottle of water before shutting the door and walking over to the island. They both gasped simultaneously, I jumped three feet in the air, “What, what did I do?” they scared the s**t out of me. Neither of them would answer, they just sat there staring. Just then I heard Gavin whistling while coming around the corner. “Good morning my love.” he said before kissing my cheek and stepping over to the fridge to grab something to eat. I was smiling from ear to ear, as I followed him with my eyes. Then it hit me as  I looked down at my mark and took a bite of my apple, “Oh yeah, that happened.” I said with a smile. I couldn’t get over how surprised they were about the mark that was now displayed on my neck, isn’t this what they wanted?

“Well, congratulations you two that’s great news! I’m so happy for you both.” Mother said while clapping enthusiastically. I still think that they’re surprised that I landed myself a mate in the first place. Noni pursed her lips for a kiss, I leaned over the counter and kissed her, “I’m so proud of you my sweet girl.” I smiled at my grandmother, “Thank you Noni, I love you.” Gavin came up behind me, and nuzzled into my neck and made me giggle. I heard Scarlet awake from her slumber,

Gross, get a room you two.

Scarlet, leave me alone. Didn’t you want this for us?

Well yeah, just tone down the PDA, you’re making me nausous.

I rolled my eyes at her and took another bite of apple. “Well, Gavin and I are going to go for a run and probably have s*x in the woods.” My mother audibly gasped. “Stella Ann Schmidt! Your grandmother and I didn’t need to hear that!” I shrugged my shoulders and ran over to kiss my mother on the cheek. “Sorry Noni!” I called from over my shoulder as I sprinted out into the backyard.

“What the hell was that?” Gavin seemed annoyed at my behavior. I took a deep breath, “I’m sorry I just wanted to rub it in. You didn’t know this, but the day I met you, my mother pretty much told me that I was too unique to find a mate. She said that I would have to open my heart, which I am not used to doing. Listen, I love you, I am officially bound to you.” I shot a look down at his bite mark, “but I’m a little weirdo and I don’t plan on toning it down anytime soon.” Gavin smiled at me, “I’m not asking you to, I understand that you wanted to get back at your mother, and I know that you have a sense of humor, that’s a big part of why I love you. But, my parents are little different than yours.” I dropped the class clown act and wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him lightly, “I’m sorry, I know that I can be a lot to handle, I promise that I will be on my best behavior when I meet your parents.” Gavin kissed my forehead, “Don’t worry, after last night I know that I can handle you in more ways than one. So go ahead and be your normal crazy self. I love that about you, on the outside your a bad ass motherfucker, but on the inside you are just one big, giant, dork.” he said with a playful smirk. I chuckled at him, “oh honey, you haven’t seen nothing yet.” Gavin had a sparkle in his eyes before he wrapped me into his arms and kissed me passionately, I dipped into him a little bit as he grabbed my ass making me shriek. Once he finally let me go, I jumped up enthusiastically, “You ready? Try and catch me!” I threw the rest of my apple over my shoulder and took off towards the trees. I could feel Gavin close on my heels.

You better run, you won’t like it if I catch you!
