Chapter 11During the day while Betty was busy rehearsing, Meg took eager advantage of the nearness and variety of merchandise from all corners of the globe. She had bought more than enough for one person to carry when she spotted the most perfect collection of wooden animals in a window display that she knew Jamie would love.
Impulsively, she acquired them and when coming out of the shop, was struggling with her parcels. She was considering returning to the theater to borrow a footman when a voice inquired, “Can I be of assistance, madam?” Turning, she saw it was the blue-eyed Merchant Service seaman from the Llandogger Trow.
She gladly handed over the most awkward of the packages.
“If you wouldn’t mind accompanying me as far as the Theater Royal? I can get some help from there.”
