Chapter 10Only a few days later, Meg found herself arriving at the Bush Tavern on bustling Corn Street. Rather than Betty meeting her in person, she was very impressed that a smart carriage had been sent to collect her and her luggage for the short trip to Betty’s lodgings. Sitting back in the brand-new well-upholstered seat, Meg was glad to be here, especially as her trip had been met with good wishes. She had sent a note to her friends, the Whitmores, shortly before her departure and received a prompt reply, full of enthusiasm that the trip would be good for Meg’s well-being and sending their love to Betty. Unrepressed by her opulent surroundings, she craned her head out of the coach window like any tourist to see where they were going, as they bowled along the quayside, over the bridge
