Six: Caleb

I’m standing at the bar just watching Ellie with some guy. I feel my rage building as they are embracing each other. “Wow, I don’t think I have ever seen you look that way before. What the hell are you staring at that has you so pissed.” I hear Ronin next to me as I point out his sister. He steps up next to me and looks. “Sh*t, isn’t that the guy that started hanging around us right before we left for college?” I look at the guy trying to focus on his face. “I don’t remember him.” I say as I turn to Ronin. “Who is he?”

Lexi comes up and looks at what we are staring at and smiles. “That’s Thad Burkly. He is a Gamma that graduated a year after you guys left.” I look at Lexi as she smiles at me. “I take it that he is her boyfriend.” Lexi nods her head. “Yeah, she was hoping to rank as a Gamma or Beta so they could marry and start their lives together.” I growl out and she giggles. “Watch it Alpha Caleb or people will start to think you have feelings for her.” She says dancing away from us. I look at Ronin and he is staring at me like he is trying to see inside of my head.

“What?” I say as my attention is pulled back to Ellie who is now running after that guy. I just want to stomp over there and pull them away from each other, beat the living sh*t out of him for touching what belongs to me. I shake my head wondering where the hell that thought came from. “Do you?” I hear Ronin and look over at him. “Do I what?” He sighs. “Just tell me man. Do you have feelings for her?” I look down at my drink and back at him. “Do you want the truth?” I ask as he nods his head. “At first no. It always bothered me that she was attached to your hip when we went out with our gang. Then right before we left, I noticed her. I started to feel things for her which just confused me because she is so much younger than us.” I sigh as he continues to stare at me.

“I was happy when we finally left. It was amazing to be able to live our lives with no one telling us what we could and couldn’t do. Then I was also happy to come back. After we left, I never thought about her again that is until she tackled me today.”

“Yeah, she has always been a spit fire. So, what do you feel for her now?” I look over to Ronin. “I don’t know. I just don’t but I will tell you one thing. I will give her the two weeks. Then she is mine.” I say and see him smile. “You know in all the time I have known you. You have never acted like this over anyone. I think you feel more than you think.” He says walking away from me. I frown thinking over his words. Could I feel more for her than just knowing she will be my wife in three weeks. I shake my head as I see Dell next to me at the bar.

“Well, I’ll be d*mned. Dell Michaels is that you?” I see a surprised Dell turn to look at me. “Alpha Caleb.” I laugh at him as he quickly looks down. “I see your still shy.” I clap him on his back as he looks up at me blushing up to the tips of his ears. I see him look around quickly with a frown on his face. “Looking for Ronin?” I ask smiling as he looks at me and stutters out a “No…” I smile at him and lean into whisper to him. “You do know he is bi right? You have a chance you just have to have the self-esteem to make a go of it.” I pull back and he gulps. “I have no idea what you are talking about.” I laugh as I clap him on his back. “Okay, whatever you say man.” I say walking towards the pool scanning the area for Ellie. Somehow, I had lost sight of her.

It has been hours since I have seen Ellie or Thad. I’m starting to get pissed. I have looked everywhere. I’m tempted to start drinking but grab a water instead. I need to keep a clear head, so I don’t lose it. Many of the she-wolves have been approaching me but I ignore them not wanting anything to do with them. That is when I start hearing yelling and screaming coming from inside the pack house. I run inside and hear sounds of fighting coming from upstairs. I take the steps two at a time and see a group of people crowding around an open door. I push my way through and stand frozen as a red haze comes over my sight.

There in the middle of the bed is a half-naked Ellie trying to cover herself up with a sheet. She is screaming at her brother to stop. I look over and see Ronin having a naked Thad pinned to the wall by his neck. I take a deep breath and enter the room putting my hand on Ronin’s shoulder. He looks at me and grounds his teeth. “Take him to the cells.” I say giving Thad a discussed look. I look back over to the bed and see Lexi holding Ellie, trying to comfort her.

Just then my father enters into the fray. He looks around and his loud booming voice. “Party’s over. Leave.” He yells out making me flinch and I hear Ellie crying louder. I look over to Ronin and see the look of worry for his sister on his face. I look over at my father and see the anger in his face as he looks at Ellie half naked then sees Thad completely naked. “Take him to the cells now, Ronin.” I say in a loud voice as he nods his head dragging a very drunk Thad out of the room.

I look over to Lexi who is scared sh*tless of my father while she is holding tight to a sobbing Ellie. “Lexi, get her dressed and take her to my rooms in the Alpha house. Don’t let her leave. I will be there as soon as I talk to our Alpha.” I say as I hear my father growl. I look over and see his eyes turn completely black letting me know that his wolf is now in control. I sigh, this is turning out to be one hell of a night.

Now I’m standing in a bedroom with messy sheets and the smell of lust in the air with a pissed off Alpha wolf. “Dad?” I say stepping towards him. He growls out at me. “You were supposed to keep her safe and protect her Caleb. What the hell where you doing? While she was about to break the contract!” He yells at me. “I don’t want anything to happen to her. She has two weeks given by you to get her affairs in order. I was giving her that time.” I say as he just stares at me. I hear him mumble something but cannot make any of it out. “Well, that is over now. Keep her with you at all times.” My dad says and I sigh. “Dad, she hates me as it is. Keeping her under my thumb now probably is not the best idea.” I say as he turns back to me. “No son, if you don’t it could mean her life and the lives of her entire family.”

I look at him and just have this feeling. “Dad what are you hiding from me?” I ask as he just looks at me. “What you don’t know is not important right now. What is important is that she is protected and kept safe. This is the only way to do that. Now go and find out exactly what happened from your Beta. Leave the prisoner until he is sober then interview him. I expect your report no later than tomorrow afternoon.” He turns to walk out the door. “Dad.” I say as he looks at me over his shoulder. “Did you know my feelings for her before now?” I ask as he just looks at me with a small smile. “Ever since she was born you have been attached to her.” He winks at me before leaving the room.

I make my way slowly to the Security building that houses the cells and communications intel for the whole pack lands. Over the decades it has grown just like our pack has. We are 1500 strong with over half of that being warriors who train without fail making our pack one of the strongest in the Northern world. I walk through the halls nodding my head to the warriors as I pass them. I make my way to the double doors that lead to the cells. “Alpha” the guard on duty at the desk nods my way and I hear the buzzer to release the lock and open the door allowing me entry.

I walk into to the room that houses four cells all of them empty except for the one on the left that Ronin is standing in front of still breathing hard. I walk towards him, and he keeps staring daggers at Thad who is laying on the stone floor naked and passed out. “You good?” I say as he never looks away from the form in the cell. “No, that mutt was all over my sister trying to get her dress off of her when I walked into the room.” He says as he balls up his fists. “What’s worst is he knew she was hands off as she was to marry you and still, I found him with his mouth wide open teeth down like he was fighting to hurry and enter her so he could mark her.”

At his words I feel my own anger and blood lust come to the forefront. “Is that all that happened?” I ask as he finally turns to look at me. “I heard my sister moaning. I had no idea what was going on. I entered the room to see him trying to rip her dress off as she is half out of it on the bed. I watched frozen as he opened his mouth and let his teeth down going for her neck….. He was naked on top of my sister who is promised to my best friend and Alpha. Not only that he was endangering my whole family with what he was about to do….” I look at him as the anger is starting to subside. “He was going to rape her, and I wanted so badly to kill him.” I put my hand on his shoulder and squeeze it. “You stopped it and I thank Goddess you did.” I tell him and pull him away from the temptation of killing the i***t.

I walk him out the door. “Go home and get some rest. Meet me back here at ten to interview him.” I say as we leave the room of cells. “Where is Ellie at? What did the Alpha say?” He asks as we walk through the building. “Ellie will be in my care for now on. I will need your help to handle her.” I say as I hear him laugh. “That’s a good one. Handling Ellie is like handling a shark and asking it not to kill you.” I chuckle myself as we step outside. “Well, I guess my life will not be dull with her around.” We stop and look out over the quiet pack lands. “Don’t hurt her Caleb. She is my sister and means the world to me, both my sisters do.” I look over at him and nod my head. “I know.” I say walking away from him heading towards the Alpha house and my destiny.
