Drew had been going crazy without Shelby. It had been a week and a half since she left and he was beginning to have a mental breakdown. The two of them had been glued at the hip since they became friends and after moving in together, they spent pretty much all of their free time together except when Drew had a date or two. Drew had been trying for years to figure out what snapped inside of Shelby and turned her into the shell of a woman she became but he was clueless. Whenever he would ask her why she was acting the way she was, Shelby would tell him she just needed a change. He knew there was more to it but it was no use in trying to get her to talk to him about it even though they told each other pretty much everything. Drew left work early and tried to find her but like all other failed attempts he had no clue where she was. He even called her parents. They told him they hadn't seen her but would let him know if she came by. Drew headed home and made himself dinner. He sat on the couch and stared at Shelby's bedroom door while he ate. He was snapped out of it when his phone rang.
"Have you found her yet, Bryson?" He yelled before Bryson could even say anything.
"No tiger I haven't. I was calling to ask a question."
"What is it?"
"Who was the guy Shelby was last with?"
"Why do you want to know about him, wolf?"
"Just tell me about him, Drew."
"His name is Michael. I was friends with him back in high school. He and Shelby got together and they broke up the day before her 18th birthday. Why do you want to know about him, Bryson?"
"I was just curious. She mentioned a guy and said he was the last guy she was with, so I wanted to know about him. That's all."
"Ook. Kind of a weird time to ask about him since she is missing."
"I know but I couldn't stop thinking about it. I'm going to go look for her. I'll let you know if I find her."
Bryson hung up and Drew sat his phone down on the couch next to him. "Why in goddess's name, would Michael have even been brought up by Shelbs? She f*u*c*k*i*n*g hates him. She wouldn't have gone back home to him, would she? No. Shelbs would never take him back." He thought to himself. All night Drew kept thinking back to Bryson asking about Michael. He argued with himself over and over again about her not going back to Michael. The more he thought about it, He realized he didn't even know the reason they broke up. Drew looked at the clock and saw it was now six in the morning. He got up and jumped in the shower. When he got out, he got dressed and looked Michael up on social media to see if he still lived in the town they grew up in. He found out that Michael did in fact still live there. He got in the car and headed out. Even though he felt deep down she wouldn't be there, he had to search every place he could think of. Drew didn't bother turning the radio on in fear that Shelby would call and he would miss it so the whole two-hour drive was quiet. When he turned down the road through his old neighborhood, he scanned the driveways for the blue Avenger but didn't see it. He turned the corner and headed down the next road doing the same. He was one house away from Michael's when he saw Michael coming out of his house. "F*u*c*k*e*r has done gotten fat and looks like he is losing hair." Drew said out loud to himself and started laughing. He slowed down and rolled the window down as he came up to the house and yelled.
"Hey F*u*c*k*e*r, you seen my bestie lately?"
"What? Who the f*u*c... Drew?" Michael asked.
"Yes, The god is in town F*u*c*k*e*r. Now have you seen my girl?"
"Your girl? I have no clue who.."
"Yeah, that girl. Have you seen Shelby?"
"Damn. She dumped me for you?" Michael asked with a hint of jealousy in his tone.
"Um. No. Whatever reason she had for dumping you had nothing to do with me. We are roommates and she needed some time to herself but I haven't heard from her since she left."
"I figured she would be married now with like five kids."
"Nope. Shelbs started writing right after high school and has published five books and is working on her sixth. She hasn't found Mr. Right yet."
"She has written five books? I'm sure she used me in one of them." He said with a smirk.
"Yeah, you are in her first book. You are the villain I rescue her from."
"How in the hell am I a villain? I didn't do anything to her. She broke up with me."
"Whatever happened to make her break up with you is why you became the villain, Mike."
"She really didn't tell you what happened, did she?"
"Um. If she had, I wouldn't keep saying whatever you did to cause her to break up with you, now would I?"
"Dude, she broke up with me over something so f*u*c*k*i*n*g stupid."
"Care to elaborate there, Mike?"
" A t*h*r*e*e*s*o*m*e, Dude. She saw me getting sucked off while I made out with the other girl."
"She caught you with two other girls and you say she broke up with you over something stupid? From what I am hearing the only stupid thing in what you said is you, Mike."
"Come on Drew, I had just turned eighteen. I was young and I wanted to explore other options. You know what that's like man."
"No Mike, I don't. I have never had a relationship like that. I chose to stay single for that reason. I could never tell someone I love them and then betray them like that."
"I didn't mean for her to see it. I forgot she was coming over."
"You, my old friend are a f*u*c*k*i*n*g Ido*t. You cheated on her and she found out the day before her f*u*c*k*i*n*g birthday. Now I understand what happened to her. Because of you, she went from a feisty young woman to this hollow shell of a person. You are the reason my best friend doesn't trust men. You are the reason she hasn't given her body to anyone else. You are the root of her issues now as an adult."
"Dude, it was years ago."
"So f*u*c*k*i*n*g what? She loved your stupid ass. Like really f*u*c*k*i*n*g loved you. She gave you the last two pieces of innocence she had. Her v*i*r*g*i*n*i*t*y and her heart and you broke her for what? Some p*u*s*s*y? P*u*s*s*y that probably had already been with half the guys in town. All I have to say is Karma is doing its job."
Drew didn't wait for Michael to respond. He rolled the window up and drove off. On his way back home, Drew called Bryson.
"Hey Wolf, I now know why our girl is the way she is."
"What are you talking about, Drew?"
"I mean why Shelby is so scared to be with a guy. I know what made her snap."
"I'm listening, tiger."
"It was Michael."
"What did he do to her?"
"After you called asking about him last night, I battled with myself over her not running back to him. I drove home and had a chat with him this morning."
"Ok, What did he say, Drew?"
"He told me that Shelby broke up with him because she caught him with two girls the day before her birthday. He was in the middle of getting sucked off while making out with the other girl when she caught him. Shelby was head over heels in love with him. She gave up her V-card to him and he told her he loved her and they were going to get married after high school. That's why Shelby hasn't moved forward with you. She is scared of getting hurt again. F*u*c*k, now I feel like a total f*u*c*k*t*a*r*d for kissing her. I am the only guy she has ever fully trusted and I f*u*c*k*e*d that up and confused her."
"Calm down, Drew. She still trusts you. I think her issue has more to do with trusting herself."
"What are you talking about, Wolf?"
"Let's just say hypothetically, What if Shelby has feelings for both of us and is confused about who she wants?"
"I don't think she does. I asked her if she had ever thought about us as more than friends and she admitted a long time ago she had."
"What if your kissing her, stirred those feelings and she was afraid to admit them, Drew? I mean you are a man-w*h*o*r*e."
"Bryson, do you know something that I don't know? You have no room to talk Wolf. You are just as much a man-w*h*o*r*e as I am and we both know it."
"I'm just trying to think of all the possibilities, Drew."
"I wish she would come home or at least let me or you know she is ok."
"Hopefully, she will soon. I have to get back to work, Drew. Let me know if you hear something."
"Will do, Wolf."
After Drew hung up the phone, he stopped at Starbucks and got himself an iced coffee and a bagel. He headed to the park and just sat there while he finished his coffee. When he finished, he headed back to his car. As she was getting in, He saw a blue car that looked just like Shelby's passing by. He started the car and tried to follow it. He got stuck behind a trash truck and lost sight of it. Drew pulled over and slammed his hands down on the steering wheel. "F*u*c*k!" He screamed. Drew turned around and headed home.
