" if you need to take that I won't be offended. " connor glanced at Alexis as she placed her phone back in her pocket. The last thing she wanted was to take this call. " no its nothing. " she looked nervous as she spoke. " did you want to sit down?" she didn't wait for Connor to answer as she made her way to a table. Connor followed her noticing her curves as she walked. her hair was down in curls and they bounced as she moved. he watched her back side. she was definitely beautiful. since this morning he couldn't stop thinking about those beautiful brown eyes and soft pink lips. " so your mom says you go to the college also?" she nodded at him as she took a sip of her latte. " what are you studying?" " right now just my general studies. this is my last semester here before leaving for nursing school." her phone buzzed again in her pocket. she pulled it out ignoring it one more time. Connor watched as she pushed ignore again. " what about you?" " I'm studying Ag science. I know it's not much but I'm hoping to have my own little farm some day. anything would be nice compared to what I had growing up." Connor had been born into one of the wealthiest families in the state of Alabama. He was given everything he ever wanted but a family that loved him. his parents split up when he was six and from there he was bought to make him love one parent over the other. when he was twelve his mother died of cancer and he was left with his father who spent most of his day working and nights busy with one woman after another. all he wanted was a simple life. It was something he would never get with his father. " farming is definitely not for the faint of heart. I can't wait to get out of it. " she trailed off as she thought about her future away from the farm. " I mean don't get me wrong, my family is amazing and it wasn't a bad life.... " she paused for a moment choosing her words carefully, " it's just not what I want for my future I guess." she took another sip of coffee as Connor watch her lips press against the cup. he couldn't take his eyes off of her. she intrigued him and made him feel things most women didn't. he reminded himself she was off limits. shaking his head and pulling his eyes off of her he looked out the window of the little coffee shop. Trying to keep himself from looking at her longer. " nursing is a good profession. it's good to know what you want in life." a small smile spread across her face. he watched her from the corner of his eyes as he pretended to not see. " well I better get going. my classes start at 9:30 today. " he slowly rose to his feet as he put some money on the table. " thanks for letting me buy you some coffee. hope I wasn't keeping you from anything. " " thanks for the coffee!" Connor watched as she left the shop and headed to her car. " damn it she is something. " he smiled and walked out. he tried to push his thoughts to school all day not being successful. something about her would creep into his mind as he was in lectures. she was so different from the girls he had ever been with. she was confident and beautiful in a natural way. she wore very little make up and really didn't need it. other girls he had been with had been snooty and full of themselves always full of make up and dressed in designer clothes. most women he knew were shallow and only cared about his bank account. Alexis didn't care about any of that. off limits, he reminded himself. there was no denying he was attracted to her but there was still no way he was crossing that line. his phone pinged letting him know he had a message. he picked it up looking at it. dinner at 6 at the main house. Mrs Durant. he read the message from his landlord. couldn't hurt to have a home-cooked meal. he wasn't even sure he ever had one before. his house was cold and void of family and most especially love. there were never meals together and definitely never any home cooking. he replied back letting her know he would be there. he made it to his place with enough time to change and get ready for dinner. he was showering when he heard a knock at his door. he wrapped a towel around his waste and made it to the front door. pulling it open he caught her by surprise. " Alexis, " he watched her eyes travel down his body as her mouth fell open. " i-i I'm sorry! mom wanted me to remind you...., " her face turned bright red as she turned away from him, " I'm so sorry!" " hey its fine. just come in I'll get dressed really fast we can head to your mom's together." he wanted to pull her closer to him and kiss those perfect lips but he turned from her and went to his room shutting his door behind him. Connor could hear the front door shut lightly and foot steps inside as they trailed to the living room. " I'm sorry about this! momma wanted to make sure you remembered dinner. she's big on family dinner " he could hear her walking around. he walked out of the bedroom holding his shirt in his hands. Connor watched as her eyes fell on him. he pulled his shirt over his head and smiled. " you ready?" she gulped as she watched him and Connor secretly loved the way she reacted to him. off limits. he reminded himself. " ready for my first ever home cooked meal." he smiled at her as he opened the front door. " what do you mean? you never ate a home cooked meal before?" she looked at him confused and Connor couldn't help but see a little pity in her confusion. " my family wasn't much for that kind of thing." he shut the door behind them and they walked side by side to the main house. " is that why you want a simple life? " Connor looked down at her question as they slowly walked down the path. " I want it all. a wife a family and something that my family never had." " what was that?" " love." Connor said it so matter of fact she stopped in her tracks and turned to him. "didn't have much of that in our house." " you definitely can find all of that here. the way the girls are here you are gonna have a wife by Sunday!" she smiled at him and Connor wanted to reach out and pull her closer. resisting the urge he laughed at her words. " I'm good. I have no problem waiting for the real thing." they walked up the steps to the main house. " this place is perfect. it's absolutely beautiful and the sunset...." he breathed in as he spoke, " you don't get that in the city." " you lived in the city?" her eyebrow raised as he gave her that small amount of information. " yes, seems like a lifetime ago now." he held open the front door as Alexis walked in. the house smelled of savory mouth watering smells coming from the kitchen. Emilia was setting the table as her mother pulled a roast out of the oven. she looked up from what she was doing and smiled brightly at the two who walked in. " dear please take your coat off and sit at the table. dinner is ready. " Alexis grabbed his coat hanging it up in the closet behind the door. they all sat at the table together and Connor listened as they all talked and told about their days. he couldn't help but feel like he was in a dream watching himself play family. he never knew what this was like and he had never seen his parents act like a family. most of the time they were fighting if they weren't hosting charity events and pretending they liked each other. Connor couldn't help but feel how different this was. Emilia looked at Connor from across the table. " so hottie do you like it here so far?" Connor tried to hold back his laughter. connor choked on his carrot as he took a bite. " um, yes thank you. I'm not sure I am navigating everything quite yet but I'm sure I'll get used to it all." Alexis rolled her eyes at Emilia. " if she is anything she is completely blunt. whenever dinner is over I will make sure you make it back. you'll get used to it. eventually it will be nothing. " Alexis smiled at connor. he secretly hoped he wouldn't remember ever so she could always walk him home. " Mrs Durant this is the best meal I have ever had. thank you so much for inviting me." " Emily please. " she smiled at him. " I'm not old enough yet for the rest." he let out a small laugh at her words. " got it. Emily. thank you." she patted his hand as she went back towards the kitchen counter picking up small plates with pie. placing one in front of Connor and Alexis than headed back for two more. " ma'am..... Emily this pie is amazing. I don't think I have ever had pie before." Emily looked at Connor surprised by what he said. " you never had pie? it was your mom's favorite dessert growing up." Connors eyes shot up to hers. shock evident as he spoke. " what do you mean?"
