Chapter 16: Case #3 Significance of Genuine Affection (4) *** ‘Gahh…! Just how many outwardly creatures were at that bar with me, huh?!’ Weiss wondered to himself as Ezikiel walked away to isolate in his room. He was left outside with Caleb struggling to figure out what to do next. “Isn’t this great? You’ll finally get this house back!” Caleb said as he tried to pat Weiss on his back to cheer him up but his hand went clean though the transparent figure. “We should go celebrate!” The werewolf suggested as he regained his balance once more. ‘That’s right… This… could be my chance to get rid of Ezikiel once and for all… the house will be all mine once again, yet… I don’t actually want him to die…’ Weiss thought to himself as he recalled Ezikiel’s sullen eyes as if he was hopeless and lost, unknowingly Weiss felt an ache in his chest at the unfairness of the situation, although he didn’t have a physical heart, it was like someone was stabbing him harshly at the place he used to have one many years ago. “I’m going to head out now… could you keep a look on Ezikiel while I’m gone? Protect him even…” Weiss said as he turned to the werewolf whom stood there with a confused pair of eyes. “I can but… don’t you wish to get rid of him?” Caleb asked but the ghost didn’t acknowledge him and simply left the house in a hurry… The outside world was strange to Weiss, the only places he visited outside his house were the bar and a few other choice locations. But he’d never gone further than that and simply stayed in the small area that he was already accustomed to. Now however he had a reason to go beyond that… and it was to seek out Aster. “Just where does he work? As far as I heard it was a subsidiary to a construction firm… or was it something with technologies? I can’t f*****g remember… the documents that were on his desk didn’t help either there wasn’t a logo or anything…” Weiss wondered to himself while trying to figure out where to go when he saw a familiar figure… Just as luck would have it, he noticed Aster heading into a large building with many floors. ‘Eh… that was easier than I thought it would be…’ Weiss thought to himself as he headed in to follow the man, then he saw the entirety of the office floor ignoring his presence. ‘What is that… isn’t he your boss? You should have a bit of respect and say hi or something…’ He thought to himself, but then as he glanced at the angry look on Aster’s face he could understand why nobody dared to say anything to him. The office was dead silent as Aster walked by and then resumed the low whispers amongst themselves as the CEO entered the elevator to go up to his office on the highest floor of the building. “The boss is in a bad mood again today…” A woman whispered as she turned to the person closest to her desk. “Do you think the big deal with TM corporation is off now? That couldn’t be it, right?” She asked in a sort of worried manner. “No, it must be something in his personal life… when it comes to working matters there’s rarely anything that can leave him as stunned…” The other woman replied in the same quiet manner, she didn’t dare raise her voice any more than she already had. “Well with the low emotional intelligence he has, it’s not surprising.” A man walked up to the two women and said in a loud and clear tone of voice, he didn’t seem to hold the same fear as they did. “Keep it down! What if somebody hears you?” The first woman said while standing up and heading to the printers. “It’s not good to talk about the Boss like that… he’s having a rough time…” “He’s not the only one having a rough time. If we’re supposed to cater to his every whim it’s going to be difficult to do our jobs properly, right?” He suggested as he shrugged his shoulders. ‘I don’t know why but I’m already annoyed with this guy… I just want to kick him around a bit… but I don’t have time!’ Weiss quickly recalled the reason he was there in the first place. He hurried off to the highest floor, going though the walls of the building, by the time he reached the 50th floor he was already exhausted. ‘s**t… why did it have to be in such a building?’ He wondered to himself, his spiritual energy had been low for the past few weeks already, so any strenuous exercises were too much. “s**t… they have elevators for these things…” Weiss muttered under his breath as he headed to the CEO’s office. It might have been in that moment he realized something about the man he didn’t think of before. ‘He works… rather hard, doesn’t he?’ He thought to himself while looking at the man. Aster was all alone in his large office, the piles upon piles of paperwork seemed to be done swiftly under his hand. It was obvious he hadn’t just came in the office, no he’d been there since morning and the so called ‘break’ he’d just taken was only for him to run out of the company to another meeting. “Weiss? What are you doing here?” Aster asked as he noticed the ghostly presence in the room. “Ehh? Do you have strong spiritual senses as well?” Weiss couldn’t help but whistle, he was a bit impressed. He was also trying hard to make it seem that the many floors he went through didn’t bother him at all. “No, but I do have glass doors and seeing a floating torso is just a bit odd…” Aster explained as he continued working, unbothered, it didn’t seem like he had the time to pay attention to the ghost that had suddenly decided to visit him. “Listen, I’ll go straight to the point, Ezikiel is ----!” As Weiss tried to explain the situation it was like he couldn’t open his mouth. ‘s**t… so the incubi wasn’t lying… we really can’t explain it in words…’ He thought to himself as the other brought his attention back to him. “What about Ezikiel? Is he alright?” Aster asked as he stopped working and finally glanced at the ghost that seemed to be struggling to talk. “…..?!” Weiss tried to shake his head for a ‘no’ but he couldn’t do that either. He went to the man’s desk and grabbed a note and pen but he couldn’t write it either. ‘s**t… just how strong is this curse that it blocks all attempts, both verbal and non verbal to communicate it….’ The ghost was becoming gradually more frustrated. “Weiss, I’m not sure what the issue is… can you just tell me?” Aster asked, he too was becoming a bit frustrated. ‘Don’t you think I’m trying to tell you, dumbass?!’ Weiss thought to himself as he sighed rather loudly. ‘I guess I should just change tactics.’ He considered while sitting upon of the chairs in the office. “You like Ezikiel, right? That much should be obvious…” “…I do.” Aster replied while going back to his work. “What’s obvious as well as his own lack of interest in me.” He continued with a rather sullen tone of voice, although the look on his face never once changed from his typical icy exterior. “You actually need to check your brain if you think he doesn’t like you.” Weiss said with a rather annoyed tone of voice while crossing his transparent arms. “If anything… He likes you so much he can’t express it, it’s ridiculous for a man his age but then yet… Ezikiel’s never had a partner before, in fact he seems like the type that’s never even had friends before. Such an isolated child, it’s obvious he wouldn’t know how to act when it came down to someone returning his feelings.” Weiss explained in a calm manner, yet there was something saddening about his words. “You seem to know him well.” Aster remarked as he stopped working once more, he pushed the documents aside and focused his attention on the ghost instead. “What exactly do you want from me?” He asked while intertwining his fingers and resting his chin upon his hands. “I’m just saying that if you like him that much you should make a move on him. Sleep with him maybe.” Weiss suggested offhandedly but it was obvious there was some underlying motive to his words…
