Chapter 15: Case #3 Significance of Genuine Affection (3) *** “Who’s weak now, huh?!” The incubus asked as he puffed out his chest in a rather proud manner. The air around him becoming just as arrogant as if he had won the fact single handedly. “You played dirty…” Caleb couldn’t help but remark as he crossed his arms. “No, respect for you my friend…” He spoke with a disappointed tone as he shook his head from side to side in clear disapproval. “Well, I hope you can enjoy your curse now!” The incubus said as he tried to fly away but Ezikiel grabbed him by the tail that flew behind him and pulled him back down. “OUCH!” The incubus felt a surge of pain through his entire body as he was pulled down. “What curse, exactly?” Ezikiel asked as he rubbed his eyes beneath his glasses, some of the dust had gotten into his eyes and irritated him. “Explain.” He demanded while holding him down. “W-well… Incubi can cast curses on humans to kill them… so I did just that…” The incubus admitted out of fear, even he didn’t know why he felt so abnormally scared of a human, it had never happened to him before. “Oh! I think I’ve heard about it though I haven’t seen it in action!” Weiss suddenly had a light bulb turn on above his head as he spoke. “It’s something along the lines of a forced love spell or maybe it was like a--” He was interrupted. “It’s similar but not the same… The fact it’s a curse means you have to have s*x with the person your heart most desires but is also the most difficult for you to approach in such a manner. And in this case… I believe it’s obvious who that person is for him. And if he ends up not doing it, which I’m sure he will… he’ll be dead in the next three days.” The incubi explained with a mischievous voice that only seemed to anger the man holding his tail even more than ever before. “What you’re saying is… I have to sleep with my boss because of you or else I’ll die?” Ezikiel asked for clarification although the situation had already become crystal clear for him. His irritation at that moment was truly like no other time. “What’s the other way to remove it?” He asked with a serious tone of voice. “There… is no other way…” The incubus said in a sincere manner, it might have been the only time he’d spoken as earnestly during their entire conversation. The awkward silence that befell them was worse than someone making a joke at a funeral, it was like all eyes of distain were pointed at him. “…………..” Ezikiel slowly let go of the incubus and gestured for him to leave, yet the creature seemed somehow stunned enough to be unable to move an inch. Ezikiel went and sat in front of the TV and turned it on. “Weiss…” He spoke in a low voice without looking back at the ghost, there was something about his manner of speech that made it impossible to ignore. “Y-yeah?” Weiss moved closer to him as to listen in more carefully. He didn’t know what it was exactly but he knew he needed to hear him out, it was a sort of instinctual feeling that even a ghost such as himself still possessed. “Even though I found you annoying most of the time… it was fun living with you here for the past month… Don’t forget me when I’m gone…” Ezikiel said as he watched the TV that was playing a sort of soap opera that he would usually never watch. There was a single tear trickling down his face in such a heartbreaking manner. “Eh…?” At first Weiss wasn’t able to understand what was happening but then he realized. “EEEHHH!? YOU’RE GIVING UP SO EASILY?!” He shouted as he moved even closer to the man, standing in front of him and blocking his few of the TV. Although due to the fact Weiss was completely transparent, Ezikiel could still see everything happening on the screen, not that he paid any attention to it. “I want to eat homemade porridge one last time… the one my mother used to make…” Ezikiel said as he as his eyes glanced up as if he was fantasizing about it that certain food already. “DON’T THINK ABOUT YOUR LAST MEAL!” Weiss shouted once more, he was panicking now more than ever while the werewolf and incubi simply stood off to the side in complete shock at seeing the previously headstrong and unfeeling Ezikiel becoming suddenly so vulnerable and emotional, it was hard not to pity him. “Weiss, don’t you think the sunset is beautiful?” Ezikiel said as he glanced through the window, the soft daylight that slowly crept into the house seemed to bring in warmth with it. At that moment, as those heartbreaking words left the man’s lips you could hear the tune of a violin playing in the distance as if accompanying the manes misery and sadness. “WHAT’S WITH THE SAD BACKGROUND MUSIC?!” Weiss asked as he turned to the TV, grabbed the remote and turned it off. He then looked back as Ezikiel with a pair of unyielding eyes. “You’re not going to die! Don’t be stupid! You just have to have s*x with Aster, it’s not a big deal at all!” He explained but the other wasn’t convinced at all. “No, it’s over… it was a beautiful yet short life… I should go and write my will…” Ezikiel said as he slowly stood up from the couch and headed to his desk to grab a piece of paper. “You’re not writing anything! You’re barely in your late twenties!” Weiss said while grabbing the man by his shoulders and shaking him wildly. “Besides! Aster obviously likes you! He’ll agree to do it! Heck he’d even agree if your life wasn’t on the line!” “Right… if he knows the consequences then… he surely won’t mind…” Ezikiel said, a small ray of hope clearly visible in his dark pupils, maybe this wasn’t the end for him! There was still more that could be done. “Unfortunately… the curse works in such a manner that… even if you wanted to you wouldn’t be able to tell the man about it…” The incubus chimed in again as he wrapped his tail around his body as if to protect it from the man. “What?” Both Ezikiel and Weiss turned to the man at the same time and with the same surprised look on their faces. “That’s just how it works! I don’t make the rules anyway!” The incubus said as he began expanding his wings and gradually raising his body up from the ground into the air, preparing to leave. “What if someone else tells him?” Caleb asked as he turned to the incubus. “Unfortunately… even the curse’s witnesses will be unable to speak of the curse… It’s just how it works.” The incubus explained while floating just a bit higher than before. “I do feel bad for you now… mostly because you look so pathetic but there’s nothing I can do, besides the spiritual world will have it better off if you’re not there.” The incubus spoke as if he was doing the world a favor by getting rid of the man. “Ezikiel… you gotta live to spite this demon!” Weiss said in a low voice while glaring daggers at the creature. “Hey… one more thing before you leave, incubus…” Ezikiel called out to the creature as he slowly walked towards him. “Tell me, why did you come here in particular? I’m sure there was a reason, you didn’t just decide on this place out of nowhere, did you?” “Oh, I heard about you at a bar a few weeks ago.” The incubus confessed. “I could gather you were a strong energy source from there. So I came to check you out!” He explained as he moved out through the still broken kitchen window, flying away. “A bar, huh…” Ezikiel turned to glance at Weiss as if blaming him for all of his misfortunes at that moment…
