Rory's POV
I jolted at the anger in Shawn's voice. Jeremy had just finished opening up about some of their past, and the pain I felt in him left a visceral reaction in me. His hand had gripped mine, and I felt the shaking in it. Carter had jumped to his feet, his shoulders wide and his chest puffed as if he was in protection mode. Jeremy and I jumped apart as if we had been caught doing something inappropriate, though I was just providing a friend comfort. Jeremy looked at me as we stood up and smirked at me before we both turned around and met the angry eyes of our alpha.
