Chapter 1

SKY'S POV

Sa wakas nakarating rin ng Pilipinas, indeed, Philippines changed a lot like what others said. Eh ‘yong mga taong iniwan ko kaya dito, kamusta na? Oh silly me, tinalikuran nga pala hindi iniwan. I smiled bitterly as I walked out of the Airport.

Nang makalabas ako ng Airport agad akong nagtawag ng taxi saka dumiretso ng bahay. I’m Skylar Melei Wu nga pala. I stayed in States for 4 years to continue my study there and went back home, if I can really call it home. It was actually all because of my adopted sister why I left home but now that I’m back, I’ll have everything back to me now.

Nang makarating ako sa bahay bumaba agad ako with my bags. I went inside the house at agad naman akong nakita ng isang katulong namin. Nagulat pa siya when she saw me but immediately helped me with my luggage.

“Maam Sky! Welcome home po. Nako po, mas lalo po kayong gumanda!” ngiting ngiti pa siya while she’s greeting me. I smiled to her back.

“Sino pong narito sa mansion?”

“Maam, nasa work pa po ang magulang ninyo habang ang Ate at Kuya niyo po ay nasa skwelahan.” I went straight to my room and thanked her as she put down my luggage. I took a quick bath to make myself fresh and immediately went to bed. I slept for about an hour kaya medyo nagutom ako when I woke up.

Bumangon ako saka inayos ang sarili ko, wearing a maroon loose shirt and a jagger. I tied my hair in a bun also as I went down in the kitchen to get some food. Napaawang pa ang bibig ko nang maabutan ko ang pamilya kong masayang magkasalo-salong kumakain sa hapag.

Mukhang nagulat rin sila sa presensya ko at matagal na napatitig sa akin. Memories quickly flashed in my mind, how they forgot to greet me in special days like my birthday, Christmas, especially my graduation day. I looked away and tried to act natural, I suddenly lost my appetite. Dumiretso nalang ako ng refrigerator to get some bottle of water.

I was about to go out of the dining table when Mom suddenly called me and hug me so tight. Nagulat ako kaya nabitawan ko ‘yong hawak kong tubig. Is this some kind of prank? Even Dad went to hug me and cried while holding me so tight.

 “Nak, we missed you so much,” Mom whispered while still hugging me. I almost choked when she said that, really? You missed me? They didn’t even ask me how I was doing in States, alone! I suffered there so much!

“Ba’t hindi ka man lang nagpasabi na uuwi ka na? You surprised us!” Of course you would be surprise, after a long time of not talking to me or even just send me message? How would you guys know?

Tumingala ako para pigilan ang pag-tulo ng mga luha ko. Humiwalay sila sa pag-yakap sa akin and looked at me so dearly. I smiled bitterly to them.

 “I never expected that from you, guys. You missed me? Really? After 4 years? Four f*****g years of not being with me! I waited for you all to greet me in every special days! Pero wala! I waited for a very long time. But looks like you already erased me in your memories. Maybe because Ate Annie is here already, your favorite child. Right, Mom? Lagi namang si Ate ‘yong nakikita niyo ‘e. Laging si Ate ‘yong tama at magaling. Me? A second option.”

 “A-Anak, hindi totoo yan. We love you equally,”  Mom tried to reached for my hands but I took a step back.

“No, Mom. You have your favoritism; I was and am always a second option. I only have Kuya Tyler but he also disappointed me. Akala ko kakampi kita, Kuya, akala ko ikaw ‘yong magiging sandalan ko. Pero tulad ka rin nina Mom! You neglect me for four years! You guys left me suffered all alone! You never loved me! I hate you all!”

A loud slap echoed inside the dining room. Hinawakan ko ang pisngi kong sinampal ni Mom, a tear fell from my eyes. I looked away and wiped it bago ako humarap ulit sa kanila.

“Anak, sorry. Sorry anak, nabigla lang ako.” I stepped back and smiled sadly.

“I think I deserved that for being nosy. I’m sorry, Mom, if I’m not like Ate Annie. Dahil hinding-hindi ako magiging katulad niya.”

 “Sky, listen to us,” Dad was trying to reached my hand but I refused.

“No, I won’t! Ayoko na, sobra-sobrang nasasaktan na ako!” I quickly run towards my room and closed the door. I cried silently after closing it, the pain in my chest won’t go away. It hurts so bad that I really need to cry it out.

Inside this big room of mine, everything felt so bad. Una palang, I know it was their plan na pag-aralin ako sa States after knowing that Ate Annie’s ex-boyfriend became my boyfriend. I know it sounds weird but he approached me first! Ni hindi ko alam na ex-boyfriend siya ni Annie, nalaman ko nalang ‘yon ‘nong sinugod niya ako sa school telling me foul words hanggang sa makaabot sa parents namin.

And of course, Annie is their favorite child kaya ako naman ‘yong lumabas na masama. Kinampihan nila si Ate Annie without knowing my side, and after a week? They sent me in States to continue my studies there. I thought everything was okay not until they stop talking to me, all of them. Sobrang hirap sa akin ang mag-isa sa States, I had to adjust to the new environment, I had to meet new people, I had to cook for my ownself and all.

In that four years, ni hindi ko alam kung nag-aalala ba sila sa akin. Sa mga panahong may sakit ako, may mga big events katulad ng kaarawan ko, they never visited me. But here I am now, in their own house again feeling alone.

I woke up feeling so tired and freaking hungry kaya mabilis akong naligo. My eyes are so puffy and red because of my crying last night. Naisipan ko nalang na lagyan ng eye mask at face mask ang mukha ko to keep it fresh.

I’m wearing a peached cropped sweater with my black cargo pants dahil nagbabalak akong magpunta ng Mall to unwind myself a little bit. Kinuha ko rin ang Saddle bag ko para hindi masyado hassle for me later kapag may nabili ako. I also braided my hair and put some light make-up saka ako lumabas ng kwarto.

Napa-atras pa ako nang mag-tagpo ang landas namin ni Annie. The audacity to step inside this house after what she did to me, sana all makapal. Hawak hawak niya ang phone niya while giggling like an Enterobius vermicularis. Napahinto siya nang mapansin niya akong nakatingin sa kanya, she raised her left eyebrow and smirked.

“What you looking at, biatch?” she even stared at me from head to toe.

“Wala lang, you look like an Enterobius vermicularis giggling there,”

“Excuse me?” she sound offended. Well, she should be.

“You don’t know that? You should study more, I guess. Bye!” I flipped my hair before leaving her there so confused. Talaga bang hindi niya alam ang parasite na ‘yon? Gosh. She should google it, I guess.

Pagkarating ko ng Mall ay dumiretso kaagad ako ng BENCH to buy some new clothes. Hindi ko naman kasi dinala lahat ng gamit ko from States dahil mga luma na rin naman ang iba doon. I tried a lot of clothes na magka-kasya sa akin and also some under garments.

Palabas na ako ng shop nang may muntik na akong makabangga na mga group of guys. Mabuti nalang at naiwasan ko sila agad, gosh the disrespect! Ang popogi sana pero walang manners.

“Hoy! Mag-ingat nga kayo!” I heard one of them said habang nagma-madali sa paglalakad ‘yong ibang guys. He even glanced at me but I looked away and walked as if nothing happened.

It was already night time when I got home at naabutan ko silang nagdi-dinner. Kuya Tyler stood up and greet me but I have to smiled back a little only.

“Sky, join us,”

“No, thanks. I’m fine,” Aalis na sana ako but Dad grabbed my hand.

“Please, anak,” My heart suddenly sank when Dad said please. I greeted my teeth and sit in front of Kuya Tyler. He’s smiling so wide and he seems so excited, agad niyang nilagyan ng pagkain ang plato ko at nilagyan rin ni Mom ng juice ang baso na nasa harap ko.

Ate Annie just keep on rolling her eyes on me pero hindi ko na siya pinapansin. We started eating kahit na sobrang tahimik ko.

“Eat up, Anak. Ako nag-luto niyan ‘e, so how’s your day?” Mom even put some rice in my plate again, I’m in a diet right now but I have no choice but to eat all the food they put in my plate.

“Just..fine.” I shrugged and drink some water.

Natapos ang Dinner nang ganoon lang kami. They will ask me some things and I’ll answer shortly. After dinner I went to the pool side para makapag-isip isip. But it was interrupted nang dumating si Ate Annie. She’s having a call again on someone but she immediately turned it off when she saw me.

“Baby, I had to drop the call baka agawin ka ng isang malandi dito ‘e,” I had to roll my eyes dahil sa sinabi niya. Apat na taon na ang nakaraan pero hindi pa rin siya nakakamove-on.

“Oh, andito ka pala, little sister,” I forced a smile and looked away from her immediately.

“Bakit ka nga pala umuwi? Hindi ka na need sa pamamahay na ‘to. You know? They already have me.” Napatingin ako sa kanya ng masama ‘nong sinabi niya ‘yon.

“Talaga ba? O takot ka lang na maagaw ko ang posisyon mo?” Tumayo ako sa harap niya at binigyan siya ng matamis na ngiti.

“Oh come on, Sky. We both know how Mom and Dad love me…more than you,” she gave me a pity look.

“Sa ngayon. Because time will come, everything will be back to its place, lalo ka na. Babalik at babalik ka sa lugar na pinanggalingan mo,” I bumped her shoulder before going inside.

I had to punch the wall because of madness. Nakakainis! Her presence really destroys my mood. I had to eat my favorite chocolate to calm myself down. I took a quick bath and changed into my pajamas para makatulog na ako.

I was doing my skincare routine when I was suddenly distracted by someone outside. Lumabas ako ng veranda ng kwarto para silipin kung saan nanggagaling ‘yong nakakairitang boses. And I saw a group of guys serenading someone’s house. Seriously?

Uso pa ba ang harana?

They’re singing Bieber’s One Last Time, oh my Zeus. There’s this one guy who’s singing it so loud but so f*****g out of tune. He’s really ruining the song! After the first verse he passed it to the other guy. They even argued kung sino na ang kakanta, my Zeus! They didn’t even properly plan it!

“Hoy Drake, ikaw na ang sunod!” the mestizo-guy passed the mic to the tallest.

“Bakit ba ako andito? Ang co-corny niyo,” but he still get the mic and sing effortlessly. Napaka-effortless ng pagkanta niya pero sobrang ganda ng tono niya. It was like as if he own the song by singing like that. I suddenly had goosebumps!

I was really captivated by his voice kaya napa-tayo pa ako sandali sa Veranda. It was all so perfect and so beautiful that I suddenly envy the girl he’s singing to. Pero natigil ‘yon when he suddenly passed the mic back to the out of tune guy!

Sobrang bigay na bigay pa siya sa pagkanta na mukhang pati ang ibang kapitbahay ay nagising sa boses niya. My Zeus! Kaboses niya na ‘yong mga insekto sa gubat na sobrang tinis! Hindi ko na talaga kaya ‘to! Parang isang verse pa ‘e dudugo na ang tenga ko sa kanya.

Kaya dali-dali akong pumasok ng banyo ko to get some water para ibuhos sa kanya. Luckily, hindi malayo ang pwesto nila sa Veranda ko. Wala naman talaga sa plano ko na isasama ko ‘yong timba sa pagtapon sa kanya. It was supposed to be water only!

“Oopss. Shoot!” I was giggling by myself nang makita kong nasalo ng ulo  ni out of tune guy ‘yong timbang natapon ko. Napatingin tuloy sila sa gawi ko.

‘Yong dalawang guys ay tawang-tawa dahil sa nangyari kay out of tune guy. Habang ‘yong isa naman—which is ‘yong maganda ang boses ay walang pakialam but he’s staring at me. Tinapon ni auto tune guy ‘yong timba na na-shoot sa ulo niya.

“Hoy, Miss! Anong problema mo ha?”

“Your voice! It really needs some auto tuning. Magpatulog naman kayo!” I rolled my eyes.

“Para namang ang ganda ng boses mo ah!”

“Whatever, losers! Corny nyo!” I walked out and closed the door of my Veranda.

Humiga na ako sa kama ko and suddenly remembered a thing.

“The singer guy…he bumped me in the mall earlier!”
