Chapter 4: I Said Maybe

1030 Words
Audrey's POV “I don’t need to hide out dad! He’s not gonna barge in here and steal me away, all this is doing is showing weakness” I groaned shoving clothes in a small bag.  My dad is making me hid out in Flagstaff until he sorts things out with the alpha, scared that’s he’s overreacting to my outburst earlier. I have to go by myself too because completely masking even one wolves smell is difficult so they don't want to risk anything. My bag and I are masked so I will be fine if anyone does come looking for me, but that's ridiculous. "I'm not discussing this, now go before nightfall and contact me when you get there, love you" my dad shushed kissing my forehead and pushing me out the door. "Rude" I called back rolling my eyes, he's lovely, isn't he. I walked to the edge of our border and undressed, shelving the clothes in my bag and looping it around my neck, shifting. I let out a scoff before starting towards Prescott // About an hour later I reached a small dinner in Prescott and stopped to eat. It was pretty secluded and luckily had a payphone outback for me to call my dad. I talked to him briefly before walking in to order. It was late, about 11 and I’m sure that the news of me leaving has spread already, wolves love to gossip. I sat in silence finishing my hamburger and now munching on the fries with my hoodie up over my head. I’m sure nobody’s looking for me but I’ll be safe just in case. It's quite annoying this whole mate thing turned into this huge ordeal. Yes, I could have been more open to mating Jordan but it's kinda late for that now plus I do NOT want a mate. As I finished my fries the bell rang signaling someone entered. The immediate smell of wolf filled my nose and I looked up to see four guards I recognized to be from Jordan's pack. I stood up silently and left 20 dollars on the table as I made my way to the exit. "Miss have you seen this girl," one of the men asked showing my waiter a picture of me. "Yes, why she's right over there, oh you must have just missed her honey" she smiled as I opened the door, flinching slightly as the bell rang and one of the men turned. "Hey stop!" he yelled as I ran out the door. I sprinted into the woods, pulling my backpack straps down to tighten around me; I was faster on foot because I didn't have much bodyweight to carry and couldn’t take the time to shift. I could hear the sound of paws hitting the ground a few yards behind me making me push faster. I quickly dashed into the streets knowing they wouldn't show themselves in the open giving me a greater chance as the shifted and changed. I ran down the street turning quickly only slowing as I saw a woman walking alone. “Excuse me!” I called trying not to frighten her, she turned quickly looking concerned but her face softened as she saw me. "I’m sorry if this sounds weird but can you take this jacket and wear it? I promise to you it will do you no harm just need to lose some people when they notice it isn't me they will send you on your way will you please?" I begged the women in hushed tones. She only nodded taking the jacket and putting it on. "Thank you" I called running slowly a little and disappearing into an alley. I grabbed on to a service latter and climbed quickly to the top of the roof to keep an eye on the women. I watched as the men surrounded the women spinning her towards them their faces defeated as they noticed it wasn’t me. "Where is she?" one growled shoving the women into the wall by her neck. Dammit! I growled softly and climbed on the roof edge. The women struggled to speak, as the hand grew tighter around her neck. “How do you expect her to answer if she can’t breathe, dumbass?” I called from the roof making all four of their heads snap up towards me. He let go of the women making her gasp in air and run dazed down the street. I jumped off the roof quickly landing in front of the men as they surrounded me. They wouldn't kill me because they would be exiled for the murder of the alphas mate but I would show no remorse. Plus I do love a good fight. “I don't want to kill you but don't have a doubt in your mind that I won't" I smirked turning slowly around in circles. "Aw, how cute" one wolf laughed as the other chuckled along. "Seriously b***h we don't have time for this, the boss wants us back by morning" another called making my eyebrows furrow. These men may be part of Jordan's pack but they aren't working for him. They would’ve said Alpha Wilson alpha, not boss’s day they certainly wouldn’t have called me a b***h. "You would betray your pack?" I said incredulously not believing my ears earning four growls. "That's none of your damn business now do we have to do this the hard way" they moved in closer making me smirk. I moved quickly ripping one of their throats out swiftly and snapping another’s neck before they had time to move. I kicked the last two hard into the wall one of their heads smashing instantly while the other stumbled a bit looking dazed. I walked up to him slamming his head back into the wall with my hand right around his throat. "Who sent you?" I growled my nails extending. "Why would I tell you that?" he seethed as blood filled his mouth and my nails sunk into his skin. "Because it might save your worthless life" I growling shoving his head farther into the wall making him groan loudly. "Ian Pine" he coughed spitting blood and making my heart stop for a second. I growled softly and snapped his neck turning to walk back into the woods. I did say maybe.
