Leonard didn't care about what Catherine wanted. He seized her hand once again and began to pull her into his car.
"Leonard!" Catherine shouted. "Go back to your childhood sweetheart and leave me alone. She wants you, and I do not!"
Leonard frowned, and he pulled Catherine against his chest. "Are you jealous of me?" he asked. She must be – he thought - Does this mean she still cares about me?"
"I am not jealous at all!" Catherine exclaimed. She tried to push Leonard away, but she was not powerful enough.
"Then why do you care so much about whether Vivian is in my house or not?" Leonard asked.
"I don't care whether she is in your house or not," Catherine sneered. "You can marry her for all I care! After all, we have nothing to do with each other anymore, and I am happy for things to stay that way. Forever!"
Leonard frowned. He was baffled. He had no idea how Catherine could say these things when she didn't mean them. "Don't try to get rid of me," he said. "It is a waste of time. As I said before, I will win your heart once more."
"You were the one who divorced me!" Catherine hissed. "So, why are you doing this? Don't you know that you had your chance with me, but you blew it? I will not give you another chance! And besides, I have already begun to move on and see other men."
Leonard's face turned red from rage when he heard that Catherine had been with other men. He squeezed her arms without even meaning to, and she screamed in pain. He ground his teeth together, and then he said, "I demand to know who you have been with so that I can kill him!"
Catherine and Leonard stared at each other for a long time, and Catherine suddenly laughed sarcastically. "I'm alone now," she said. "But do you actually think that you can still threaten me?"
Leonard sighed, and he let her go. "Never mind that for now," he said. "You can't hail a taxi here. It's more convenient for you if you let me drive you home."
That was indeed the case, and Catherine didn't want to walk to the main road, so she said, "Okay, I'll get in the car."
Leonard nodded, and then he walked back to the car, opened the door, and put his hand above her head to protect her as she stepped in. He was gentle, now, but Catherine had not forgotten how he'd treated her only moments before, and she said, "I appreciate the drive, but that doesn't mean that I forgive you – because I don't."
Leonard saw that Catherine didn't want to talk to him, so he let her be. He climbed into the driver's seat and quietly turned the air conditioner on before starting the car.
Catherine closed her eyes, but her mind was always alert, and she reflected on everything that had happened that day. She thought about how much Leonard had once meant to her and how little he meant to her now. What he had done with Vivian, and what Vivian had done to her baby – both were unforgivable.
The ride back to Catherine's house was quiet, and she didn't open her eyes until she felt Leonard pulling the car into her driveway. Once the car had stopped, she looked at Leonard's reflection in the rear-view mirror and said, "Thank you for the ride."
Catherine reached for the door handle, but it wouldn't move. The car had a child-lock system, and Leonard had trapped her in the car. Leonard smiled and said, "Why are you leaving in such a hurry?"
Catherine glared at him and said nothing.
Leonard: "What time should I pick you up tomorrow?"
Catherine was stunned. "There is no need," she replied curtly.
Leonard looked a little hurt, and Catherine looked away. She knew it was just an act. "Why are you treating me this way?" he asked.
"You know why," she replied. "Now open the goddamn door!"
"Fine," Leonard said, and Catherine heard the lock click open. She swung open the door and got out of the vehicle, but, much to her dismay, Leonard also got out of the car. And he followed her up to her apartment. Catherine stopped and turned to stare at him, and she asked him why he was following her.
"Shouldn't you invite me into your home for a cup of tea?" he asked. "I'm your guest, after all." Leonard looked at Catherine tenderly and smiled.
"You are no guest of mine," Catherine said. "I did not invite you here, and you are unwelcome, so go home. Don't forget that you have a guest of your own waiting for you!"
"Vivian!" Leonard scoffed. "How can she be my guest if I am your guest?"
Catherine glared at Leonard. "You are the president of the Campbell Group," she said. "You are behaving shamefully. What if someone sees you here, stalking me."
Leonard offered Catherine a sly smile. He grabbed her wrist and said, "What is it that you want? Money?"
Whip quick, Catherine slapped Leonard across the face with her free hand.
"I-I'm s-sorry," Leonard stammered. "I s-said the wrong thing. I s-shouldn't have s-said that."
Catherine was still so angry. She wanted to get rid of Leonard, but she couldn't because he was still holding her wrist.
"I've never regarded you like that," Leonard said. "And I won't do so in the future, either."
Catherine looked at him, coldly. She said, "Just leave."
Leonard: "Look, since dinner, I haven't had a sip of water. Just give me a glass of water, and then I'll leave."
Catherine knew that the request was just a ploy that Leonard was using to try to get up to her apartment, so that he could see what kind of life she lived, and if he could help her in any way. Furthermore, it would be improper for her to take a stranger in without getting the permission of her housemates. She told him that her answer was No, but he wouldn't release her. Thus, she was forced to bite his arm.
Leonard shouted in pain and pulled his arm away, and the moment Catherine was free, she pushed him backward. He stumbled, and she rushed into the apartment. Once the door was closed and locked behind her, she ran up the five flights of stairs to her apartment, and by the time Leonard regained his balance, she was out of sight.
Leonard stepped up to the door and pounded on the glass. "Cathy!" he shouted. "Let me in!" Of course, he knew she wouldn't, but he couldn't help trying.
