I tried not to but I couldn’t help it.
I looked up at her window and there she stood. I only got a peek of her for a fraction of a second but it was enough to get my heart thumping faster.
I want to hate her. I want to yank her from my heart. I want to f*****g forget that I even know her. The way I am acting and the way my heart hurts to be away from her, you would think that I had already drunk her blood and made her my mate but no. If my link to her is strong now, I could only imagine how it would be if I do drink from her.
But nope.
Not going to happen. I refuse to be her f*****g toy. She doesn’t want me. She has made herself very clear about how she feels about me and how she doesn’t want anything to do with me.
Fine.
I can play that game too.
Victoria and I walk up the front of the castle and before we can knock, Karime comes barreling out of the front door.
“Dem!” she screams and throws herself in my arms, almost knocking me backward.
“Woah, Kari! Your big bad Alpha Wolf-husband is going to get territorial if you keep hugging me like this.” I say to her, returning her hug.
I had truly missed my best friend.
“Shut it! You have been gone for too long, you idiotic, stubborn fool,” she chastised me.
“I missed you too, Kare-bear,” I say back to her.
Then I look up to see said-Alpha husband standing at the entrance, growling at me.
“Hey, I told her to get her paws off me, she just can’t help it. I’m a chick-magnet,” I say to him with a smile.
“f**k you and your magnetism.” Alpha Damian says, grabbing his wife from me.
“Come on, Damian. I haven’t seen him in forever,” Kari says to him with an exaggerated bat of her eyelashes.
“Six months, is not forever, babe. Don’t pull that eye s**t with me either, you know how that gets to me,” Damian growled and pulled her closer to him and putting his face in the crook of her neck making her giggle.
“You too, please get a room,” Victoria said with a look of disgust.
“Hi, Vicki!” Camila said, from behind the PDA couple.
Victoria stepped up around them to hug Camila, “Hey Cami. It’s so good to see you again,”.
“You too, girl. We have missed you both. So glad you have decided to come back,” Camila says, looking pointedly at me.
“Nope. Don’t go there. I am not staying. Victoria and I have a mutual problem and we think you or Kate could help us out. Once we get the answer to our problem, we are out of here and I am going back home. I have many female hearts waiting for me,” I say to Camila with a grin.
“Aren’t you full of the same horse-s**t as before,” Marcos says behind me.
I turn to look at my good friend, Marcos, the Beta of the Yellow Moon Clan. “Look whose talking,” I say with a grin.
I grab him into a big bear hug, “It’s good seeing you, man” he whispers to me.
“You, too. Been taking care of all our girls,” I say to him as I release him from our hug.
Knowing well, the second meaning behind my questions, he smiles, “All three are doing good.”
“Good,” I say.
Not really liking the answer I gave. I mean I am glad Fae is doing good but part of me wishes she was struggling as much as I had been.
“So, what is this problem, you need my help with?” Camila asks, rubbing her round belly.
“No way! Is Layla getting a kid brother or sister?” I ask her.
“Yep. We find out the gender in a couple of days,” Camila starts.
“And we are throwing a gender-reveal party, that you two are totally staying for!” Karime ordered.
“Gender-reveal party?” I asked with a confused look, “Isn’t that like a human thing?”
“Don’t get her started on that. Believe me, we have all tried, talking her out of it.” Damian says, ushering us all inside the castle.
“Who says it has to be human-thing? Why can’t we have wolfy gender reveal parties?” Karime asks, with her hands on her hips.
I put my hands up in surrender, “Forgot I asked. I don’t know about Victoria but I wasn’t planning to stay more than a night,” I informed them.
I couldn’t do more than one night under the same roof as Fae, I am barely holding on to my control as it is. As we are inside the castle, her scent is stronger and I am fighting the urge to fly up those stairs and see her.
“Nonsense. You both are staying,” Karime ordered.
Before either Victoria or I could protest, Damian pointed to the right,
“How about we all settle around the dining room table, I mind linked Patrick, he is on his way to get Kate and will meet us here,” Damian said.
I looked at Victoria slightly tense up at the mention of Patrick and his current girlfriend, Kate.
This is going to get interesting.
“Where’s my godson?” I ask Karime as we walk into the large dining room.
It is a large and rectangular shape, just like the massive table with the twenty chairs around it, at the center of the room. Above the glossy, wooden table is a large crystal chandelier that lights up the entire room, since there are no windows anymore.
“I see you have vamp-proofed the castle?” I say to Damian.
“Of course! With our Luna being vampiere and our son being half-vampire as well, we took all the necessary precautions. That way they have the freedom to roam around the house without having to lather themselves with witches salve,” he answered me.
“Luca is upstairs keeping Layla and his Nanny Fae company,” Karime said to me.
The sound of her name said out loud, made me start a nervous coughing fit, that made one of the omegas bring me a glass of water. I quickly drank it and my coughing fit died down. Way to play it cool, dumbass.
“Are you alright over there, leech?” Marcos said to me with a snicker.
I ignored his comment and thanked the young omega who gave me a shy smile and slight bow then quickly ran back to the kitchen.
She reminded so much of my Fae.
“Is she new?” I asked, indicating to the omega that just left.
“Yeah, we had to find help for Frida, since Fae started working full time as Luca’s nanny. Her name is Lucy, she is still quite new and can get nervous quickly,” Karime informed me.
“I see. Good for Frida. Speaking of Frida, does she have any of those specially loaded potatoes she makes, I have missed those.” I say loudly to the kitchen door.
A few seconds later, Friday comes out with a tray of steaming baked potatoes, fully loaded, “Sir Demetrio! Something told me earlier today that I should make these for dinner and I am glad I did. Welcome back, Sir,” the round and friendly Lead Omega said to me, placing a plate with a huge baked potato for me.
“Oh, my dear Frida. Don’t tell my mother this, but no one can cook as good as you do, I have really missed it. It’s gotta be the best cuisine in all the magical world,” I say to her.
“Oh, Sir Demetrio. You know just what to say to get to this old woman’s heart,” Frida says to me, her cheeks blushing red.
“Nothing but the truth,” I say, as I fill my spoon with gooey, delicious potato and popping it in my mouth.
“Mmmmmm….fucking fantastic..just as I remember,” I say to her.
“Save room for pie, Sir Demetrio, I am whipping up your favorite, blood red, strawberry pie,” she says, placing plates of food in front of the others.
“Not with my special blood sauce?” I ask her, excitedly.
“Of course, Sir Demetrio,” Frida says with a smile.
“Karime, scratch what I said before. I might just be staying forever!” I say with a laugh.
Everyone else joins in too.
All except Victoria, who stops mid-laugh as she stares at the entrance behind me.
I turn around and see Patrkc and Kate standing at the entrance of the dining room, he with a protective arm around Kate’s waist.
I turn to look at Victoria and before she can cover it up with her icy glare, the hurt can be seen in her eyes.
I recognize that look, oh so well.
It’s the same hurt I felt when I saw Fae for the last time.
