CHAPTER 21: YOU LIED TO ME

1500 Words
▒ AUTHOR'S POV ▒ ▒ FLASHBACK (BEFORE ANTHONY ARRIVED AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN) ▒ "Your late mother was a dragon?" Colton asked. Amelia nodded. "Okay, no problem. I'll follow you there. So, when are we going?" "Now." "Now?" Amelia nodded again. "No, dear. We'll go tomorrow morning, not now," Colton disagreed. But Amelia insisted they should go to Wyrmshold that night, giving him her reasons. After much persuasion, Colton accepted. They both dressed. Colton shifted, and Amelia climbed onto his back. He flew out through the window, heading to Wyrmshold. ▒ FLASHBACK ENDED ▒ ▒ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ Colton and Amelia were still on their way to Wyrmshold, the dragon kingdom. Colton knew that after visiting Wyrmshold, Amelia would want to take vengeance on his stepbrother, and she would surely expect his help. He was ready to assist her in getting vengeance on his stepbrother. He never loved his stepbrother Anthony, and Anthony never loved him either. Colton hated his brother due to his cruelty and wickedness, and his brother hated him because Colton was the heir to be the next Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack and the Alpha King. So, if killing his brother was what it took to make his mate happy, he would do it without thinking twice. Amelia lay on her belly on Colton's back, holding him very tight to avoid slipping off and falling. Colton was flying at a moderate speed, not as fast as he had when visiting the witch Morgana for the antidote, so that Amelia wouldn't fall out. Finally, they flew out of the Rogue's Pack and into another pack, then from that pack into another, continuing past different packs until they reached a point where they could see Wyrmshold from a distance. Increasing his speed slightly, Colton finally reached the point where he needed to fly down to the main gate of Wyrmshold. In Wyrmshold, you can't just fly into the kingdom, even if you're a native, to avoid being mistaken for an intruder. It's a law there; you must go through the main gate when entering Wyrmshold. Inside the kingdom, you can fly around as you wish, but when entering or leaving, you must use the main gate unless you are royalty. Wyrmshold is a small but one of the strongest dragon kingdoms. As Colton and Amelia landed, they stood before a large black gate, taller than a typical 10-story building. Amelia yawned and stretched herself. She was about to knock on the door when it suddenly and slowly began opening. When the door had finally opened, an old man with a kerosene lamp stood before them. He had green glowing eyes, the natural kind of eyes the dragons of Wyrmshold possess. He looked very thin, with wrinkles covering his body, face, hands, and legs. He wore a local hat on his head. "Welcome to Wyrmshold, my daughter Amelia," the man greeted with an accent and a wide smile, revealing no teeth in his mouth. It seemed he had been waiting for their arrival. Amelia and Colton looked at each other in shock and then back at the man. Amelia wondered how he knew her name, as this was her first visit to Wyrmshold. She had only heard stories about it from her late parents and read about it in novels. She knew its location despite never having been there before. "Come in! Come in!" the man's voice sounded muffled as he motioned for them to enter. They walked in, speechless. It was then they noticed five warriors at the side of the gate, who then shut and locked it as soon as they entered. Colton and Amelia stopped walking . "Come! Come! Come," the man said, walking forward. Again, they looked at each other and then at the old man. "Where are we going?" Amelia asked, but the man only nodded. "Come! Come!" the old man gestured again. "I said, where are we going?" Amelia asked again. This time, the man smiled widely and nodded. Amelia became confused. "He seems not to understand you due to your accent. Please try to speak slowly," Colton whispered to Amelia. "Come. Come," the old man repeated, gesturing for them to follow him. "Where... are... we... going... to? And... who... are... you?" Amelia spoke slowly, pronouncing each word carefully for him to understand her. "You will get to know me better when we get to our destination. Come on, let's go. We don't have much time left," the old man said, still motioning for them to follow him. WHAT DOES HE MEAN BY 'THEY DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME'? WHAT WAS HE TALKING ABOUT? She glanced at Colton, who signaled to her and pulled her closer as they started following the old man. Looking up at the sky, Amelia saw different dragons flying around in the dark night, appearing to be dragon kids playing night games. They walked for what seemed like an hour before finally arriving at the man's house, a very big house. "Grandpa!" a little girl ran towards the man as he opened the door to the house. "You should be sleeping. Why are you still awake? Go back to your room," the old man said. The little girl ran out of the sitting room, presumably to her room. The sitting room they were in was not modern, but it was far better than Colton's home. The man pointed at a wooden bench in the sitting room, motioning for them to sit. They sat. "Give me a minute," the man said to them and left the room, leaving Colton and Amelia looking around. "This house looks so local, not what I expected. I thought modern dragons lived in expensive houses and were rich, but this house makes me doubt that. Look at how the light from the bulb is flickering," Colton whispered and chuckled. "At least this house is better than yours with candles. I doubt there has ever been electricity before, Candle Man," Amelia teased. They both chuckled. The old man returned after a few minutes with five women and ten ladies, all wearing brown animal skin clothes, covering their breasts and waists down to their knees. The old man sat on a seat opposite them while the ladies stood. "So tell me, who are you?" Amelia asked. "I'm Lake." "You seemed to know I was coming. How?" "I'm Lake, descendant of Dajbog, protector of Dajbog's stone. I'm your mother's older brother, and this is her family." He pointed at the ladies and women, introducing them to Amelia one by one. They were all her mother's family. "To answer your question of how I knew you were coming, as the protector of Dajbog's stone, I sensed you approaching this kingdom and knew I should come and welcome you and bring you to your home, your family. So if I may ask, what brings you to this kingdom?" "My mother, your sister, is dead," Amelia said. "We know about that." "You know?" "Yes, we all know. I felt the Dajbog's stone change breath, which can only happen when the old stone dies and her son or daughter takes over. I sensed the stone's change." "You're speaking in parables. I'm not understanding. What are you saying?" Amelia asked. "You will understand very soon, so don't worry for now. Is that the reason you are here?" "No, the exact reason I'm here is that my late father asked me to come here before he was murdered by Anthony Reyes, the Alpha Prince of the werewolves." "I'm sorry for your loss," the old man said. "It's okay. Anthony will pay for that with his life. I will k!ll him, his family, and his pack," Amelia said. "Do you mean you will wipe out the entire Reyes family?" one of the ladies asked. "Yes, I will," Amelia replied. "So why do you have one of the Reyes sitting next to you? Why did you come here with one of the Reyes?" the lady asked. "What do you mean?" Amelia asked. "I mean, why did you bring him here and sit comfortably next to him since his family killed your family? Why did you come here with Colton Reyes? Why haven't you k!lled him yet?" the girl asked. "Colton Reyes?" Amelia looked at Colton's face, and Colton looked back at her, his face filled with shock. Amelia turned her gaze back to the lady. "I think you are wrong. This is Colton Rolland, not Reyes," Amelia explained. "Young lady, the gods can never be wrong." one of the women said. Amelia once again turned to Colton. "You aren't a Reyes, right? They are wrong, right?" Colton didn't reply to her question. He remained silent, but the look on his face told Amelia exactly what she needed to know—the truth, which broke her heart instantly. "You are one of the Reyes?" "I can explain, Amelia." "Bastard! How dare you lie to me? How dare you tell me you are Rolland when you are Reyes?"
