CHAPTER 3- R.I.P.A.F.G SEA

It was night time John, Jeanne, and Jeanne's Father was having dinner. Their dinner was souped carrots with salt. John was looking at the food served in front of him. He already knows he's not gonna like it.

Jeanne's father who was eating dinner suddenly asked John various questions.

" Young man, could you tell me where did you come from? How old are you? Who are your parents? What is your job? "

John replied, " I came from a country called the US. I'm 25 years old, my parents are long dead, and I'm a businessman."

" So you're a merchant young man no wonder you got here. I also had merchant friends when I was a young adventurer."

John was scratching his head about Jeanne's father.

"Uhm, sir may I know your name, asked John to Jeanne's father."

" My name is Rick Intra, I'm also the village chief of this village, and I'm only 68 years of age."

"Why are you giving me too much information? " thought John.

John and Rick's conversation was interrupted by Rick's coughing. John notices the blood in Rick's hand that he used to cover his mouth.

Seeing this John asked Rick a question, " Rick have you been sick for a long time?"

Rick answered John with a serious face, "Yes" he said.

"Then why haven't you go to a hospital and see a doctor who could give you medicine?"

"A doc...what? Oh, you mean a herbalist or a priest. Well, I can't because we have no money, said Rick."

After that dinner, John immediately went to bed and enjoyed a good night's sleep.

A day has passed, when John regained his consciousness he was now in shape to stand up but his wounds were not completely healed.

John used this opportunity, to explore the village. It was also his first time going outside Jeanne's house so he was a bit excited to get a glimpse of what was Jeanne's village looked like.

As John was about to get out of the house he bumped into Jeanne. John felt pain as his wounds got hit, this almost caused him to scream but Jeanne covered his mouth immediately.

Jeanne then whispered, " don't be too loud and hide."

What is going on? asked by the confused John.

"It's the tax collector, he comes here to collect taxes. If he sees you it would be a big problem for us."

"Why is he gonna kill any foreigners?"

Jeanne answered, "No! he might add additional tax if he sees you. Look we don't have enough harvest to pay for additional taxes."

John, " So he's a bad guy."

Jeanne, " No, he's a good guy just doing his job. He even sometimes bring something for the children bought with his own coins."

John, "Well, what I've read in most stories that tax collectors are the evilest and corrupt of all the government people."

Thank you, Mr. Rick, your village gave the promised tax via vegetables. I will be going back here again next month so please prepare the next crop for your taxes. That is all goodbye, Mr. Rick.

Rick, " Have a safe trip back to the city sir Jason."

The tax collector along with his men left the village. The tax collector had black hair and black eyes his skin was almost pale, he was also a handsome gent in his 20s.

John who was still in the house raised his eyebrows and asked Jeanne.

"Why do you think he is a good guy?"

Jeanne started to explain, " Well, he is a kind person, just like the lord who governs this land. Sir Jason has never tried to trick us in paying higher taxes he was fair and square, but he noticed our village was not harvesting enough crops. He immediately proposed to our lord to decrease our taxes by 40% and have only one kind of crop per month, as tax. Because of this, our village has survived this long even paying taxes."

John finally understands that the government that the village is under is not corrupt.

John immediately got out of the house and finally, saw what kind of lifestyle this village had.

The first thing he noticed are the fields being taken cared for by some of the men. He noticed that the females were either cooking, cleaning, or taking care of the children.

He also saw a blacksmith repairing farming tools. John noticed that Rick was leaving the village with some of the men.

John went to Rick and ask them where they were going.

Rick answered John, "We are going hunting in the forest young man."

"Oh, I see this village has a simple way of living. "

Rick looked at John and spoke, " Well, I guess a young man who came from a busy city will be not used to this kind of village."

After that Rick immediately left the village and went to the forest to hunt.

John explored the village for an hour before going back to the house. After John explored the village he noticed something about the villagers.

He noticed that the villagers were all skinny, even Jeanne was skinny, this gave John the impression that most of the people, no not most but everyone in the village suffered malnutrition.

Because of this, observations John immediately went to Jeanne to ask some questions about the food that a family consumes every day in the village.

John found Jeanne who was cleaning the house, as John look closely at Jeanne he notices that she was a bit skinny. John ignored this when he saw Jeanne as he thought it might be due to her body build as a petite girl.

John walked near to Jeanne spoke, " Jeanne can I speak with you, if you have the time?"

Jeanne answered, " Well, I just finished cleaning up the house. So I'm already free to talk with you."

John immediately asked Jeanne without hesitation.

"Does your village suffer from food shortages and diseases?"

Jeanne simply answered " Yes".

"Why haven't your village asked for some assistance from your lord?"

Jeanne answered John's new question, " We already have, but our Lord has still no funds as the war devasted his city two years ago. His city is currently in the process of rebuilding, he is also suffering from different bandit raids on his city making it hard to help the villages."

After hearing this John let out a sigh and spoke, " Well, I am getting to know the truth about your government here."

John immediately went back to his bed and said," Tomorrow I might leave this village, I was hoping if your father can lend me a horse, and some weapons. I promise I will pay you back when I return, I'm even willing to pay interest on how much the horse and weapon cost."

Jeanne answered John, " You can talk about it when my father arrives, he has the jurisdiction of all the assets of this village. I may be his daughter, but I can not interfere with his decisions."

John understood that the village chief does most of the decision in what to do with outsiders, John was glad that Jeanne's father took care of him. This makes him think that he might be a burden to the village who is already having trouble feeding its people.

.....Let's go back in time a little.....

" What! Sir John has been missing for a day on that island. " Shouted a girl wearing a maid uniform on the phone.

A voice coming from the phone replied to the girl, " But ma'am Sir John has brought some armed men with him. He might still be safe, they are only not answering their comms. So we have thought it might be due to the fact that the island has magnetic waves blocking communication devices. "

The girl started to get angry and shouted, " Then, if you know that you must've have created a backup plan. What will you do if something happens to Sir John? Damn it, if you there can't do your jobs properly then I will do it myself."

The girl immediately turns off her phone.

Another girl in a maid outfit who heard the entire conversation asked, " What has happened head maid Annie, is there some trouble about sir John."

Annie looked at the girl and replied, " Yes, and I have to do someone else's job. Carmilla go get me some details about the nearest private army we have at sir John's location."

Carmilla immediately followed what Annie said to her, and went to gather information about the nearest private army that John owns.

It was already thirty minutes when Carmilla was ordered to gather information. She just got finished and was ready to report it to Annie, so she immediately went to the head maid's office.

Carmilla entered the office and immediately states to Annie what she found out.

Carmilla reporting, " Maam Annie the nearest private armies we have near sir John's Location is in the Philippines, which is the Richard Industries Private Armed Forces Group in South East Asia (RIPAFG SEA). Their contact is in this paper ma'am"

Annie receives a paper from Carmilla and reads it.

Annie complemented Carmilla, " Very good I never thought you were able to find this in just thirty minutes. Ok, tell them to arrange a rescue team for Sir John."

Annie immediately called the contact Carmilla gave her.

" Hello, this is a Ryder, a retired veteran who is enjoying a peaceful life."

Annie, " I know you are not retired you just have a new job, a contracted mercenary turned to a loyal dog by Sir John."

Ryder, " Oh! a feisty one, wait a minute, your voice, I remember now. You are the boss head maid, so what do you want calling me at this time of this early in the morning. "

Annie, " I want you to set up a rescue team for Sir John."

Ryder, " Wait! what happened to Sir John."

Annie," There's no time to talk about it you must assemble a team ASAP. The longer we talk the more dangerous os it for sir John. I will send you the details."

Ryder, " Ok, give us three days if these details you sent me are true we might gonna need to carry supplies."

Annie, " Three days! that's too long, cant you prepare any faster than that?"

Ryder, " Well, ma'am if the data you sent me is real that Dimitri is with him, then it might be serious if they really are in trouble. I know-how Dimitri operates in his mission proving that he might be one of the best bodyguards there is. So coming there prepared is better than dying with my men."

Annie, "Fine just make sure you succeed in this operation, do not let Sir John down when he needs you the most."

Ryder, "Yes ma'am I'm not going to let sir John get hurt, who would pay me if he dies?"

Annie turns off the phone, seeing this Carmilla who was listening asked, " How did it go, ma'am, Annie."

Annie looks at Carmilla and answered her question, " Well it went great, they are now preparing. Now Carmilla you are coming with me."

Carmilla was confused and asked where they were going.

Ma'am, where are we going?

Annie answered Carmilla, " We are going to Palau, I have already booked us a flight. I can't wait to give our men in Palau a piece of my mind."

Ryder lined up twenty men to in their base, after seeing that the men were already prepared him immediately brief his men about the mission.

Ryder, " Ok men we just received a mission directly from Sir John's maid. Our mission is to rescue our boss, Sir John Richard from any possible danger. Hostiles in this mission, unknown, number of hostiles also unknown. So this might be hard as we don't know if we do even have enemies. Location of the mission an Island 78 miles south of Palau. We will be landing at Palau International Airport and a transport helicopter will be waiting for us there, which will bring us directly to the island. Communication on the island may be also hard as the island has a large area that has a magnetic wave, so be prepared cause when drop there it will be only us."
