Kade finally set me down, his hands steadying me for a moment longer before he stepped back, looking almost... hesitant. I could still feel the heat of his touch on my shoulders, but the tension in his jaw was impossible to miss. He seemed conflicted, his gaze darting away before locking back onto mine.
“I know you’re upset,” he started, with his voice softer than I’d ever heard it. “But I had to take you away. I couldn’t let you stay with Callum.”
