Rachel
I moaned softly as I lifted my eyelids. I noticed I was in a strange room, although it looked alright and somewhere fright-less.
"Where am I exactly?" I whispered to myself as I studied the room with my blurry eyesight. I noticed I was lying on a bed, and how happy and relieved I was when I felt the softness of the bed.
It has been quite a while since I laid comfortably. Quickly, I used it as an opportunity. I tossed on the bed, feeling the softness and the warmth. I could not help but chuckle to show how happy and relieved I was.
Just then, the door made squeaky sounds to show signs of someone opening it. I quickly composed myself and closed my eyes tightly.
"Hmm… Is she still unconscious or what?" I heard someone whisper, and I slightly opened my eyes, peeking at whoever made such a statement.
"Oh! You're awake!" A man in his late fifties gushed, after noticing my mild movement.
"Oh…" I whispered and forced a smile. I sat upright and rubbed my long arm.
"Where am I?" I asked, "And who are you?"
"I'm the physician whom I was assigned to treat you. If you can remember, you fainted a few hours ago while you got your final judgment" He explained and my eyes grew big.
I remembered everything now! The sentence! The final judgment that Alpha Brandon and his elders passed to me.
"What was the judgment again?" I whispered, after swallowing hard, hoping it wasn't as I thought.
The man sighed deeply and shook his head.
"You were sentenced to death by hanging," He spilled and my heart jumped.
"What? No…" I whispered, shaking my tears, with my eyes, tear-filled.
"Sorry, but it's true. Everyone claims you are a murderer. Although, Dennis made an option where you won't be killed instantly*
"Dennis? Wait, Brandon's friend?" I questioned and wiped the falling tears off.
"Oh no… Dennis isn't just Brandon's friend, but he's now the Beta of this pack. He was appointed today by the Alpha and all the elders, including the pack, approved of him. He's such a nice and good person. I'm sure he will make a good leader," The man smiled.
"Hold on," I muttered.
"Yes… What is it?" He asked.
"What did Dennis exactly say?" I asked.
"He said… you should be kept in the dungeon for three more months, and afterwards, you would die by hanging if you don't confess everything" He explained, and I rubbed my head, scattering my hair.
"It's still better than none, but I don't want to die. I really didn't do it," I said with tears flowing out of my eyes, but the man wasn't concerned.
"At least, I will get to see my mother and father before I leave," I muttered.
"Sadly, you won't. The Alpha ordered nobody to see you. Not even your corpse"
My heart broke, and I became depressed at that second, with heavy thoughts in my mind.
Just then, the door opened, and two guards walked in.
"I can see she's now better," The first guard said.
"Yes," The physician replied with a nod.
"Then, we shall take her along. Let's go" The second guard uttered, and I sighed deeply before standing up from the bed.
I walked to them with all my gathered strength and they gripped me, taking me away from the scene.
I walked in my bare feet, all the way to the palace. We went underground through a staircase where the dungeons were located.
I sighed sadly, seeing the stinky and nasty dungeon and knowing that I would stay there for the rest of my last three months.
That night, mosquitoes wouldn't allow me to sleep. I kept tossing on the cold floor and my stomach kept rumbling as a result of hunger.
"Hey…" I heard a soft voice and I opened my eyes to see Dennis smiling at me.
"Dennis. What are you doing here?" I asked, and he only smiled wider. He opened his bag and brought out a mosquito coil, which he lit and handed to me.
I kept it inside the dungeon and muttered. "Thank you."
"I hope you're fine?" He asked and I quietly nodded.
"Nope, you're lying. You are cold and hungry," He said, and I sighed sadly, with my gaze down.
Of course I am hungry, but do they care?
Still, from his leather bag, he brought out a thick linen and a box of rice balls. I snatched the box from him through the vertical openings of the dungeon and started eating it like a hungry lion eating a carcass which it had seen after months of searching for food.
"Here… Water," He whispered and stretched his hand towards me.
I looked and saw a bottle which contained water. I pouted sadly and nodded.
"Thank you," I whispered and took it.
He also pushed in the linen and advised me to sleep on it.
"I will leave now. Don't worry, you'll be fine" He said in a low voice.
"But why are you doing this? Why are you helping me?" I asked, but instead of giving me a response, he stood up to walk away.
"Dennis," I suddenly called.
"Yes?" He answered.
I swallowed the soft rice ball and drank water. Then, I faced him with a hardened gaze.
"I hate you so much," I said with a strong tone and his eyes blinked, much in surprise.
He could read how tough and sincere my emotions were and definitely, he knew I wasn't lying. I was being serious.
"Rachel…" He whispered, quite taken aback.
"I will not forgive you," I spat.
"I don't understand. What do you mean?" He asked.
"You know what I'm talking about" I growled.
"Huh? I swear, I have no idea what you are saying. What are you talking about, Rachel?" He questioned, and my fists clenched tightly.
I looked around and smirked dangerously, with glints sparking in my eyes.
"It's your fault this happened to me."
