Alpha Rick tried to sit up the moment his eyes opened but the pain that shot up from his belly made him drop back on his back. He hissed in pain using his hands to hold the edge of the bed, he successfully sat while his beta came running towards him the moment he noticed he was awake.
"You should lay down, Alpha. The wounds aren't healed yet." His beta brought a glass of water towards him which he quickly gulped.
"Casper," Rick called, "Where Is she?"
"Who are you talking about?" Casper had a clueless look on his face but the Alpha knew he knew exactly who he was talking about.
He gritted his teeth in annoyance and threw him a glare, "I won't repeat myself."
"Okay, okay. Its complicated. I looked into her this morning and..." Casper paused, wondering if he should tell him this.
"And..." Rick looked impatient as if he would pounce on him any moment if he left his sentence hanging again, "I clearly told you to take her with us." He glared at him knowing that she wasn't here.
"I know, but Rick she... She's... Oh, God. Just promise not to go berserk okay..."
Before Casper could continue he heard an annoyed growl from Rick making his hairs stand on edge. He gulped and forced the words out of his mouth, "She's married to another Rick, she's the luna to the alpha of that pack!"
The moment he said this, he shuddered feeling the temperature in the room drop to the lowest degree. The expression on his Alpha's face was terrifying and he just wanted to run out of his sights but he knew he couldn't. It was his fate to deal with this, alone.
"Then why did she chase us?" After a long while of clenching and unclenching his fists, Rick finally spoke.
"I don't know. Maybe it's because they thought we were attacking their pack. I gave her the ring in case she changes her mind and wants to find you."
"Nonsense!" Rick stood up, ignoring the intense pain that was building inside him, "I'll find her myself. She's mine!" He growled.
"You can't be rash!" Casper told him, his eyes filled with worry, "I know you've been waiting for your mate for so long but you can't just barge in there and claim her. Think about it, it will scare her away. Besides, you don't know if she's really happy with her husband right? What if she rejects you right away?"
Hearing his words, Rick took a deep breath trying to be calm but his fists were still clenched tightly.
He could barely even register what his wolf was telling him. His temper was just so hard to control. Every day and night he waited for his mate to appear but for so long, she didn't. He started to think that maybe the goddess didn't give him one but yesterday, he finally found her. It just had to be the moment he was fatally wounded.
He was out to conduct an investigation. Following a clue someone had sent to him but it turned out to be a trap and an ambush. He was wounded, he didn't know exactly what they did to him but his body refused to heal itself. He and his warriors decided to secretly camp in that pack's territory for a while after escaping from the claws of the enemy but somehow they found out and they had to quickly leave.
Casper ordered his men to distract the other pack so they could escape first since he was wounded and couldn't do much. That was when he smelled her, her intoxicating scent filled with all the sweet things he knew. His mate.
He could only growl when Casper started to run from her and she gave chase immediately but he managed to stop Casper and asked him to go take her with them. He fainted the moment Casper left him there to go to his mate and now, he just woke up hoping to see her beautiful face, what she looked like yet his beta just had to hit him with the news that she was married. She didn't wait for him and got married immediately.
He closed his eyes and open them again turning his head to look at his beta who was trying to minimize his presence.
"Did you say you gave her the ring?" He asked and his beta nodded which made him calm down a little.
Fine, he'll wait for her and if she didn't show up, no one would stop him from going to her, from claiming her as his own.
...
Meanwhile...
Mira climbed down the stairs, a big smile on her face as she welcomed the familiar faces of some powerful Alphas in the state. Eli was also following behind her. Just as they planned, she let Eli come with her. Weren't they so good at scheming? She had to show them that not anyone could do or achieve what she has.
"Its so nice to see you again, alpha Owen." She greeted.
Alpha Owen kissed the back of her hand in response giving her a big smile, "I've never felt so happy working with a woman. The last project was a success as well."
"My pleasure." She smiled and turned to the other Alpha.
"Derik," She threw herself at him, not bothering to use his title. She gave him a big hug.
It had been so long since she last saw him. Her eyes glistened with tears as she remembered his tragic death in her previous life. He was her very good friend and ally but he had a terrible end. This time, she would make sure she changes that.
"Ah, why are you so emotional? Its not been that long hm?"
"Is it so weird that I miss you?" She rolled her eyes and led the two men upstairs, to her office, where their meeting was suppose to take place.
"Right Eli, this is Mr Owen. Alpha of the River Bird pack. I'm sure you've heard about him and this Derek. I don't have to introduce him."
"Hello, my name is Elizabeth. Its nice to meet great men like you." Eli smiled sweetly as she introduced herself.
"Why is she here?" Derik asked not bothering to lower his voice.
There was an incident where Eli had accused them of being a couple. Thankfully, they cleared that. Ever since then, Derek developed this dislike towards her.
"Oh, Eli is here because she needs to learn from me how this works. Soon, she will marry an alpha and we have to prepare her don't you think?"
"What I think is she will make a bad Luna. I feel sorry for the pack that will have her." Derek spoke as if the person he was talking about wasn't present here with them but it was obvious that he didn't care.
Mira nudged Derek playfully, "Be nice Derek. Don't underestimate her. She still has to show us her potential before proceeding."
"You're too nice Luna Mirabel." Alpha Owen chimed in, "After all, her mother is a successful luna also. Its her who should teach her but now you'll have to tell her all of your secrets. She could use them against you in the future you know?"
By now, Eli hung her head low. Her fist clenched by her side as she gritted her teeth and forced herself to remain calm.
This women definitely knows what she was doing. She was purposely making them humiliate her like this and she won't take it lying down but for now, she had to try and make a good impression especially for Alpha Owen. If she could get him on her side...
"It is okay with me Alpha Owen. Everyone should have a chance to prove their worth and that's exactly what I'm doing." Mira glanced at Eli and saw that she was about to cry so she put her hands over her shoulder, pulling her close.
"Don't cry okay? A strong woman never shows her weakness."
As Owen saw the tears forming on Eli's face. His heart softened a bit. After all, men had this thing for weak girls.
"Fine then, let's see what she's got." He said and the meeting began.
Eli stood at the side watching and listening to how Mira professionally handled conversations and negotiations. She couldn't help but feel like she was really good but who cares? All of these things would be hers in no time. She could do this, she was good with people too and no doubt she could surpass Mira and make her name known to all in no time.
"I heard your territory was breached last night. That could cause a lot of damages to our investment. Could you suggest a way to increase the security? I wouldn't want all of our hard work to go to waste you see." As expected, a business and money minded man like Owen wouldn't let that pass.
"Why don't you let her give us a suggestion?" Derek pointed at Eli, "We can determine her potential from that."
Mira smiled secretly wondering why Derek was unexpectedly making her plan go smoothly.
She turned to the side, fixing her gaze on Eli and letting her see the slight smile that hung on her lips. She saw how her fist clenched and almost wanted to laugh. She was having a lot of fun today.
"Can you give us a quick evaluation?"
"Yes." Eli answered, "I think we should take in more guards. One's that are more capable and higher in ranks. That way, the guards can easily stop any intruders before they get to the main base."
"Is that all?" Derek asked giving her a disdainful look. He didn't bother hiding his dislike for her at all.
Eli nodded slowly.
The three people sitted all exchanged looks in silence before Mira finally spoke, "I don't think the guards are the problem. However high their ranks are, there are still people out there, more powerful. What we need is to set up traps. Traps that could leave any any one of them half dead. The word will spread and no one will dare to think of breaching us again. Also, I think we lack the latest technologies... " Mira went on to explain everything and the Alphas both nodded in agreement before they ended their meeting.
Mira saw them off after they were done and came back only to see Eli waiting at the corridor with a fierce glare being thrown her way.
"You b***h! You were doing all those things intentionally!"
"Careful, Elizabeth. I'm still your luna." She said with a chuckle walking past her but Eli drew her back.
At thesame moment, Mira saw someone coming in their direction. She let out her claws and used it to scratch her arms leaving blood dripping from it. Her expression changed dramatically to that of hurt. Even though the wounds she gave herself really hurt.
"You... Why?" She looked at Eli with a disappointed and hurt expression while clutching her wounded arms and raising her voice so the others who were inside could hear, "I agreed to let you go with me today. It wasn't my fault they didn't like you as you didn't perform well Eli and now you have the guts to use those claws on me? Everything you did in the morning was fake right? Do you think because Jason gave you privileges, you have the right to do whatever you want. Don't forget I'm still your luna!"
By now everyone already gathered. Mira watch the shock and surprise on Eli's face and smiled in victory.
This type of scene had also happened in her previous life only at that time, she was the victim. But now she was not. Eli was the victim here and she... was the evil perpetrator. Well... She didn't mind being evil and shameless. If it was going to make her win.
"What are you doing?" Eli whispered to her. Her eyes now full of panic as she saw the crowd starting to gather and realized what Mira was trying to do. It didn't take a genius to create a story from everything Mira said.
The dirty glances the people were starting to give her made her grit her teeth and glare at Mira.
"She's lying!" She said and that was the mistake she made as this made the people furious...
