The flight had gone well, and they’d made their way through a Christmas-decorated Heathrow, grabbed their bags off the conveyor belt, and now they were in a cab. Eason squeezed his hand. “Don’t worry.” He forced a smile. He’d already told Eason a thousand times he didn’t, and Eason hadn’t, not once, bought the lie. What if Barbara, Eason’s mom, hated him?
