Chapter Four - I am sure she wasn't

1338 Words
Levi I am sitting in the living room doing a little work on my laptop. Quinn is still sleeping, and Jared isn’t home yet. I had checked in on Quinn, but she was out for the count. I heard the front door open, and Jared appeared. “Alright, buddy. Are you working again? Do you ever take a break?” he chuckles. “Hey, yeah, just doing a couple of things. I do take breaks.” I protest. He shakes his head and sits down next to me. I chuckle and turn my attention back to my screen. I can feel his eyes burn into the side of my face. I slowly turn to him again, and he seems slightly confused. “What? Do I have something on my face?” He raises his brow at me, “Why are you smiling so much?” What is he on about? “I’m not,” I reply. “Yes, you are. You haven’t stopped smiling since I walked in. Did something happen I should know about? Did you meet someone?” he smirks and seems excited with the idea. “Nothing happened. I didn’t meet anyone. You are seeing things.” I argue. I can’t have him knowing his sister is the cause of my smile. Since we hung out, I have been in a good mood, but Jared cannot know the truth. He stares at me for a moment but finally nods. I let out a breath, one I didn’t realise I was holding in. “I think we should go out tonight. What do you think?” he asks. “Sure. What do you want to do?” Jared seems taken aback by my quick answer. “We can go for a couple of beers. Maybe a game of pool or something,” he suggests. “Sure. We can do that.” I smile. “Great! We can head out at seven. Perhaps we can get you laid.” He winks and nudges me. I didn’t react because we knew that wouldn’t happen. I excuse myself for a moment. I promised Quinn I would wake her when Jared arrived. I make sure he doesn’t see where I am going and sneak into the spare room. Quinn is sprawled out, half in the covers, half out and snoring slightly. It is kind of cute. I smile and stroll over to the bed, and lean down. I shake her slightly. “Quinn, it is time to wake up. Jared is home,” I whisper. She groans but doesn’t wake. I chuckle and try again, but it doesn’t work. Without meaning to, I reach in and stroke the hair away from her eyes. A soft whimper falls from her lips. s**t! I quickly pull away. Quinn finally opens her eyes and smiles sweetly at me. “Hello, again.” She giggles. “Hello,” I laugh, “Jared is home,” I add. She sits up quickly, “Yay!” she beams, clearly excited to see him. I move out of the way to let her climb off the bed. I wasn’t expecting her to be in only a tank top and a pair of panties. I divert my attention away, and she snickers. She didn’t seem phased, not even a bit to the face she was prancing around in front of me with so little on. I should probably leave. I rush for the door, not entirely watching where I am going and run into the pane. “Ouch!” I groan because it hurts. “Oh God, are you okay, Levi?” Quinn says and comes to my aid. “Fine,” I say quickly and rush out. I can’t believe I just did that in front of Quinn! I am such an i***t. I pull myself together as I make my way back to the living room. A couple of minutes later, Quinn comes running through. Jared has his face in his cell, not even noticing her. “Did you miss me, big brother?” Jared’s head shot around, and the biggest smile grew on his lips when he saw her standing there. He tosses his cell aside and rushes over to her. “Quinn!” he says excitedly and wraps her in a hug, holding onto her for dear life, “I missed you. What are you doing back so early?” “I missed you too, big brother. I was homesick, and I missed you so damn much.” She gushes and hugs him back in the same way. I smile as I watch them. You could tell they were close. They pull apart after a minute. “When did you arrive? Why didn’t you call me to pick you up?” Jared asks. “Early afternoon. I didn’t call because I wanted it to be a surprise.” She replies. “God, little sis, it is great to see you. You are staying here with us, right?” he asks hopeful. “Yes. I have already asked Levi if it is okay, and he is also fine. Aren’t you?” Quinn asks and glances over Jared’s at me. “Yes, I am fine with it.” “Great! I am so happy you are here, Quinn.” He hugs his little sister again before holding her wrist and leads her to sit on the sofa to catch up. I decide to leave them to catch up and disappear to my bedroom. They haven’t seen each other in a long time, so I don’t want to be in the way. I can finish my work since we are going out tonight, if he still wants to, anyway. If not, I would understand. *** An hour had passed, and I could hear them still chatting and laughing—both happy to be together again. It became silent suddenly, and a minute later, there was a knock on my bedroom door. “Come in,” I call out. I expect Jared to walk in, but to my surprise, it is Quinn. She grins and comes to sit on my bed. “Sorry, I feel bad you have been sitting in here alone while we were out there.” “No, it is okay. You and Jared have been apart for a while. You don’t need to apologise.” I reply with a smile. “So, if you don’t mind, I have been invited to join your guy’s night.” “I don’t mind at all. Plus, he will probably ditch me the second he sees a woman he is attracted to, so at least I will have you as company.” I laugh. “Why doesn’t that surprise me? And I promise not to ditch you.” She promises. “Thank you, I appreciate that, but please, if you see someone you like, don’t let me get in the way of it.” I didn’t want her to miss out on some fun because she felt like she had to. “I won’t be looking. You can be my date for the night.” A cheeky smile rises on her lips, and my cheeks heat with her words. “I’m sure you would rather have someone else for that.” I know she is messing with me because a girl like her would never be interested in me. “No, I wouldn’t. I would be happy just hanging out with you if my brother ditches us.” She sounds series this time. Why would she want to do that? She could have more fun with someone else. “Oh, okay…” I trail off because I wasn’t sure what else to say. Quinn pats my legs, “I am going to get ready because we will be heading out soon.” I nod and don’t speak another word as I watch her leave my bedroom. Was she flirting with me? I have no idea because I am not exactly familiar with flirting. I am sure she wasn’t.
