MAYBE I DISLIKE YOU

Emma’s POV

“Hey mom”, I said immediately my mom picked the call. I had to let her know I got here safe and I wasn’t going to be back as we had planned earlier.

“Hey darling, how’re you? You got there safe?”

“Yes mom I did”.

“How is your father?”

“He’s more than just fine”.

“Okay, is there something else you want to tell me? You sound like you have something to say”.

“Yes mom, I won’t be home tonight. Dad and Avery left for some function and won’t be back till evening which is apparently too late for me to have any discussion with dad and still leave for home”.

“Oh darling, you see that’s why you must check in with people before going over to their place. Just in case they have plans already”, her mother scolded. Typical of her.

“But no problem, as long as you’ll be back home on time tomorrow to finish packing up your things”.

“Yes mom I will”.

“Alright, take care of yourself sweetie and also please be nice”.

“Mom! I’m always nice”.

“Yeah, sure”.

“Alright bye bye bye”, I quickly hung up with my mom laughing.

Then I went to the parlor to stay, cuddled up on the couch, I brought out my phone and logged in my social media account and began mindlessly scrolling through. Before deciding to stalk my boyfriend and see what he has been up to.

I froze when I saw a picture of him and a girl all cuddled up with him kissing her cheek on his story, with the caption ‘I’ll miss you’.

Who was she? My mind kept running miles, normally I’m not a social media person. How I have followers and likes whenever I post something is still like a mystery. Maybe because I’m friends with Maya or because I’m dating Asher.

Asher, who is this girl? I contemplated on replying to the story or just skipping it. The former won and I left his page.

I got a notification of Maya going live and I joined in. She saw that I joined and went ahead to give a big shout out to me like she always does, I laughed and requested to go live with her which she quickly accepted.

We chatted and exchanged stories, played games with people that joined the live and basically had fun, but then we got tired and ended the live.

Maya called me right away.

“I think my father’s girlfriend is pregnant”.

Maya gasped, “no way!”

“Yes way, I saw the bump and she did that pregnant women thing where they rubbed their stomach”.

“Oh no, so how do you feel about it?”

“To be honest? I don’t know how I feel. I mean is he getting married to her now or what?”

“She’d better not make you a bridesmaid if she is getting married to your dad”.

“I second that. Think of it, she doesn’t even like me that much to consider putting me on her team”.

“Hello? Your dad might influence it”.

“God I hope he doesn’t”.

“He doesn’t what?”

“I don’t know, get married to Avery or make her put me on her bridal team”.

Maya laughed for a very long time, “girl I miss you, I can’t wait to see you so we’ll catch up on all the summer gossip”.

“I know, I miss you too”.

“Alright listen up, did you check my story?”

“No I didn’t, why?”

“There’s this back to campus party we’re going to attend. It’s going to be so much fun I promise you”.

I laughed, Maya is the party person between the both of us and she always makes sure she drags me along.

“Okay ma’am. Party when we get back to campus”.

“This Friday specifically”.

“Okay okay. Hey, you’ll come pick me up from the airport on Monday right?”

“If I don’t, who will? I’ll see you Monday. Just send me your flight info”.

“Okay, I’ll do that now. Bye Maya”.

Maya made a smacking lips sound as a kiss and hung up.

“Now what’s there to do I’m this house?” I looked around.

Curiosity got me and I decided to go upstairs to check on my dad’s room, I’ve never really explored his place. I’ve been here like twice or thrice and have never stayed overnight before, unlike my siblings.

Halfway to reaching his room and I changed my mind, turning back I decided to go out and explore the town instead of just hanging out alone on the house.

I shot my father a quick text telling him I was going out just in case they change their mind and decide to come back early. Then I grabbed my keys and my shoes next at the door, put them on and hopped off to my car.

After driving around for some time, I found a cute park and decided to just sit out there for some time.

I found a parking space and parked my car then got down and decided to stroll around. While strolling, I passed by two women holding hands and playing with each other, they looked so cute. ‘Best friends maybe?’ I asked myself before seeing the taller lady pulling the shorter one in for a full on kiss. My heart melted at that, definitely a couple. I smiled at myself and kicked a pebble and continued my stroll.

After feeling like I had stayed out long enough, I got back to my car and decided to go look for a restaurant to eat. I was already very hungry.

Luckily it took me less than ten minutes drive before I found a decent looking restaurant and I parked in their parking space and went into the place.

“Hi, welcome. What would you like to drink?” A waitress attended to me, immediately I sat down.

“Umm, water?”

“Okay, coming up. Meanwhile here is our menu, make your choice while I get you your water”.

She got back with the water and I ordered for a plate of spaghetti and meatballs.

My food was brought to me shortly after and I ate, paid my bill and left. Back to my father’s house.

It was already getting dark, I needed to be home before it got completely dark, I still don’t know my way around this town. Luckily I made it to the house, after properly parking my car in the driveway, I got down and locked it then went back into the house to wait for my dad and my soon to be step mom.

My phone ringing woke me up with a start, I didn’t know when I fell asleep. I looked at it, it was my dad calling.

“Hello?”

“Sweetie, could you open the door? We’re home”.

“Oh okay, give me a minute”.

I hung up and stood up, stretched then walked to the door and opened it. Without waiting for them to come in, I turned and walked back to the sitting room.

I heard them come in and locking the door shortly after.

“Welcome dad, Avery. How was your day?”

“It was long. Here”, he handed me a bag.

“The things you asked for, I even got you a new toothbrush and sponge with your soap”.

I’d wanted to ask him which soap he thinks I use, but I remembered my mom’s advice to be nice and just thanked him instead.

“Are you hungry?”

I shook my head, “no I’m not, I had something to eat in a restaurant I came across”.

“Oh okay”.

“Would you like me to show you to your room now?” Avery suddenly asked me, I couldn’t resist the urge to be biting.

“Why? Am I taking up your boyfriend’s attention and you want me away so fast?”

“Stop it Emma”.

“Stop what dad?” I asked innocently and blinked my eyes.

“Exactly, stop what?” Avery asked hotly.

“What ever did I do to you to make you hate me this much?”

“I never said I hated you, did I?” I was met with blank looks.

“Well, maybe I dislike you but not hate. Never mind you don’t understand, so I’ll leave you both alone now”.

I stood up and grabbed my things.

“Never mind, I know which room to sleep in for tonight. Goodnight”.

I left them and went up to the guest room. All Avery does is to piss me off, now my talk with my father have to wait till morning.
