Chapter 27: Karma

Zoe was enjoying a few minutes of calm and quite in one of the many Libraries in the Anderson house. It had been a pleasant enough couple of weeks, even if some people had been acting a little strange! If it wasn’t Tony acting strange, it was Erin.  Zoe had caught Erin many a time looking at her with a strange look, a mixture of pride, regret and hope. It was all a bit intense if Zoe was honest with herself.

Not as intense as the men in her life though Zoe thought with a sigh. Akihiko had been attentive, so attentive in fact she was hiding from him now! Andrew was not much better! He kept being weird and flirty, which she knew was to annoy Akihiko and it was working very well. Several times they had to be split up before they came to blows. Even Ena was more quite then normal, it was like everyone was holding their breath.

Then there was this mysterious meeting everyone in now in, everyone was it in apart from her.  Ena basically had to drag Akihiko away, it was rather cute in a way. Akihiko had kept talking about Japan and what they would so once they got there. Zoe tried to tell him to slow down, but he was determined to get her there as soon as possible! 

Zoe was deep in thought when she heard the Library door open. Thinking it was Akihiko, she turned her head and smiled. She blushed when she realised it was an old man with silver hair and blue eyes. 

“I am sorry, I did not realise this Library was in use” the old man said with a smile.

“Please don’t mind me” Zoe said politely.

The old man nodded and walked over to a leather chair near her. He picked up a newspaper  from the coffee table and started to read it.

“My name is Zoe by the way” Zoe said with a smile.

“Oh my goodness! How rude of me! I must apologise for my bad manners, my name is Dimitri. I am a guest of Tony’s” Dimitri said.

“Please don’t worry about it. People don’t come into Libraries to chat but to..” Zoe said

“Hide? Yes they do make a good hide out. Libraries always make feel so much calmer as well” Dimitri said with a chuckle.

“Me too! I feel there is always so much history in a Library” Zoe said

Dimitri crooked his head and fully appraised the women in front of him. She was obviously educated, polite and kind hearted he thought.

“Indeed. So what brings you to Mr Anderson’s abode?” Dimitri asked in a friendly manner.

“Oh...Mr Anderson as kind enough to let me stay here whilst I see my friend ..Andrew” Zoe said, not sure how much she should say.

“Andrew? Andrew Livingston?” Dimitri said surprised. As far as he knew, Andrew was not really interested in the dating or social scene. Plus why would this women not stay at his own extensive estate? Dimitri thought

“Yes do you know him?” Zoe said beaming.

“I had many business dealings with him. How do you know him?” Dimitri said casually.

“Oh Andrew and I were at Yale together. We studied our Master’s in Computer Science” Zoe said

“Ahh I had a son who was very into computers” Dimitri said

“Oh really which area?” Zoe asked

“Programming” Dimitri said

“Oh that is my specialism to, it would great to meet him. Oh...oh I am sorry” Zoe realised her blunder. Dimitri said had a son, that could only mean one thing...

“Do not worry, he passed along time ago” Dimitri said

“Still, you never forget them..” Zoe said sadly

“I see you have experienced loss too...” Dimitri said sympathetically.

“Yes my parents were murdered” Zoe said her blue eyes turning as cold as ice.

“I am sorry” Dimitri said

“Don’t be. The man who did it will be brought to justice” Zoe said with determination.

Just then the Library door opened and Akihiko rushed in.

“Zoe, go pack we have got to leave. Ena has a plane waiting” Akihiko said. Akihiko stopped suddenly when he saw the old man in the chair.

“Little Dragon come with me now, you are in danger!” Akihiko said in a panicked voice.

“She is not from me Akihiko, I can’t speak for my wife though” Dimitri said drily.

“No he can’t” an old women’s voice from the door way said. She came in followed by five  large body guards.

“Anastasia!” Akihiko hissed

“Akihiko, so this is where scurried away to! Do you think you could escape me? I am so glad my information was correct, that you have some poor women in your clutches. Bring her to me”Anastasia said as she indicated two of the Body guards to get Zoe.

“Don’t you f*****g touch her!” Akihiko raged but the two other bodyguards pulled out guns and pointed it directly at his head.

“I doubt even you can  Dodge a bullet at this close range” The Body Guard said

The Body Guards pulled Zoe up and dragged her in front of Anastasia.

“You poor girl, what are you doing with a monster like Akihiko?” Anastasia asked

“He is no Monster! Now who the hell are you?” Zoe said not sure what this was all about

One of the Body Gaurds went to slap her but Dimitri growled in Russian “No! She will be treated with respect!” 

“Well you certainly made an impact on my husband! But let me introduce my self, I am Anastasia Medvedev the head of the Medvedev gang and the Russian Syndicate. That monster standing over there branded my Granddaughter with his filthy gang sign. That is after he repeatedly try to kidnap her and beat her!” Anastasia declared

“What?” Zoe whispered looking over at Akihiko 

“Don’t you know that Akihiko has quite the reputation when it comes to women? He beats them and rapes them to repeatedly. Broken bones are quite a  common occurrence when you sleep with him. It is such a shame that such a pretty girl ended up with such a monster! Is it the money or the power.....surly it can’t be Love?” Anastasia said

Zoe remained silent as a look of shock and horror spread across her face. 

“Such a shame, but remember your association with him is why this is happening. Hold her!” Anastasia said.

“Please don’t!” Akihiko begged as he was pinned to the ground by the body guards, who were known as the Black Bears.

“She will be branded with our Gang sign, a lovely  bit of Karma don’t you think?” Anastasia said wickedly 

“Anastasia please, this girl is an innocent! We are better then this!”  Demitri said in Russian. He liked this Zoe and there was something about her eyes..

“Better then seeking revenge for Granddaughter? Are only heiress?” Anastasia shouted

“Do it to me! I did it, it should be me that receives the punishment!” Akihiko said struggling.

“Is it true?” Zoe asked quietly. Her eyes were glazed over and her voice was emotionless.

“What?” Akihiko suddenly asked

“Is. It. True” Zoe said slowly

“Yes” Akihiko said

“She is right You are a monster” Zoe said simply and Akihiko said nothing. He knew what she said was true, he had been a monster.

“What will happen if I don’t accept this punishment?” Zoe said

“Akihiko will be killed and I will feed his bones to my dogs!” Anastasia said simply 

“Fine, do it!” Zoe said as she took off her top. 

“Nooo! Don’t you f*****g touch her! Do you hear me?” Akihiko roared.

Anastasia ignored him and ordered two Black Bears to hold tightly on to Zoe. The Leader of the Black Bears, Vicktor came forward with a gloved hand. Zoe saw the bear brand glowing red.

“Please know, I take no pleasure in this but..” Vicktor said

“Orders are order, I get it. Just try and make the burn even, if I going to be stuck it for the rest of my life then I want it to at least look good!” Zoe said look foward.

Vicktor nodded and placed the brand on her chest just above the right breast. Zoe gritted her teeth as she felt her flesh burn, but she was determined not to show any weakness. It was over in a few seconds now and Vicktor moved back.

“Satisfied?” Zoe said staring Anastasia right in the eyes. 

“You got balls of a bear, I give you that girly! Yes the debt has been paid, you are free to go” Anastasia said with a new  tone of respect in her voice.

“And Akihiko’s life?” Zoe asked

“Safe, unless he decides to do something else stupid” Anastasia said 

Suddenly, the doors to the study burst open. Tony, Erin,Theo,  Kurt, Andrew, Dave and Ena all came rushing in.

“Well this is quite a committee” Anastasia said

“What the hell is going on? Release Akihiko immediately!” Tony roared and Ena walked over and helped Akihiko up.

“Are you OK?” Ena asked quickly in Japanese 

“They branded Zoe”  Akihiko said trying to move towards Zoe. She hadn’t even glanced his way since she had been branded. Please sweetheart, just look at me, please!  Akihiko furiously thought.

“Just some gang style justice, nothing to get worked up about!” Anastasia snapped

“Dear God, Zoe! What have you done?” Erin shouted and Tony snapped his head round. He saw his Nice branded with a bear.

“How dare you do this in my home? Anastasia you have gone too far!” Tony boomed angrily.

“Come, let’s get you to the medical wing” Dave said he tried to pick up Zoe up but she pushed him away.

“I just want to go to my room” Zoe whispered and Dave nodded.

 He guided her out, but not before looking at Akihiko and saying “I warned you that Zoe would pay for your stupidity!”

Once Zoe and Dave left, Erin completely lost it.

“Do you have any idea what you have just done?” Erin screamed taking everyone by suprise.

“I just branded that Scumbags Girlfirend. Why are you so worked up? She is a nobody! She does not have any Gang rank at all!” Anastasia snapped.

Erin surprised everyone by rushing foward and slapping Anastasia hard.

 “That nobody is my Daughter!” Erin shouted

After a moment of stunned silence Dimitri said “Oh God, she is Nickolas’s daughter isn’t she? She has his eyes, nose and love of computers! I am right, aren’t I?”

“What? No, no that can’t be!” Anastasia said

“Why do you think you are here? We wanted to tell you before you found out some other way!” Tony boomed 

“Congratulations, you just branded your Granddaughter!” Ena said

“And my future wife!” Akihiko growled. If she can ever forgive him he thought.
