Chapter 11

I had no idea how long we stood near the road, wrapped around each other but I stepped back when I was sure I was not going to burst into tears again. He let me go but kept his hands on my shoulders, his thumb rubbing soft comforting circles. “Are you okay?” He asked softly, I nodded not meeting his eyes. “Look at me Princess.” I didn’t want to look at him because I didn’t want him to see me like this so I shook my head, keeping my head down, my eyes staring at the at the dirt patch on my sneakers. My hair had formed a curtain shielding me from his eyes. I gasped feeling Jason’s hand brushing my hair to the side, I kept my eyes on the floor. I could feel his eyes burning holes into me but I refused to lift my head to look at him. He chuckled before placing a finger underneath my chin and lifted my face to his. I closed my eyes immediately, childish but I didn’t care. He was going to demand who made me cry and I would end up crumbling and telling him and then we would get in more trouble with Derek. “Princess, come on. I want to see those beautiful eyes.” He coaxed. “Promise you won’t ask any questions.” I demanded, eyes still closed. He let out a sigh. “Come on Princess.” He argued, I shook my head “You have to promise.” “Fine. I promise I won’t ask you any questions. Now can you please open your eyes” He conceded. I slowly opened them, looking up to see his un-amused face. He lifted a finger to wipe away a stray tear. “I’m still going to find out.” He vowed. “You won’t do anything about it, you already promised.” I reminded him; he let out a tch sound. “Actually Princess, I promised that I won’t ask you any questions. I didn’t say anything about not asking others questions.” He explained a smirk on his face. I narrowed my eyes at him not appreciating the reasoning his reply. “I really don’t like you right now.” I said, turning on my heels and stomping down the road. I could hear him chuckle before he jogged after me, his feet crunching on the gravel stone. “I’m just joking, come on Princess.” He said coming to a stop in front of me. I looked up at him “Not funny.” I replied pouting, I needed him to understand how serious this was but if I did then he would know it was Derek and things would go from bad to worse. “How about I make it up to you?” He suggested, my attention perked at his words and I turned to him. “How?” I questioned. “After school, we can head to the diner; get some ice cream; that always seemed to cheer you up.” He replied, the thought of ice cream lifted my moods immediately but the thought of going back to school and being in the same environment with Derek and his goons after all the words they said to me had me frowning. “I don’t want to go back to school.” I muttered “Can we just go now?” He raised a brow, a look of mild surprise on his face. “Miss O’Malley skipping school? The world must be coming to an end.” He mused. I shot him a glare and brushed past him, making my way to his truck. He laughed and followed behind me, we reached the truck and I got in, buckling myself, he started the truck and pulled onto the road. I leaned my head against the window, watching the trees and houses, my mind devoid of any thoughts. I jumped a little when I felt his hand hold mine, his thumb drawing soft circles on my skin. I turned to him; his eyes were on the road. If anyone had told me I would end up in Jason Dames’ truck, his hand holding mine, I would have screamed bloody murder and ran for the hills. We were two different people from different walks of life but here we were making it work. The thought brought a small smile to my face. I would not change him for anyone else in the whole world, he was it for me. “Janice mentioned your folks were out of town.” He said making a turn. “Yeah, didn’t I mention that to you when you came over?” I asked. “Nah” he answered pulling up at Betty’s. Betty’s was one of the oldest diners in town, but it was a classic. The building had never been renovated so it had an old rustic charm to it. Even the mall with its chic and modern restaurants didn’t take away the attention Betty’s got. I was about to step down from the truck when Jason stopped me, shrugging off his jacket and handing it over to me. I frowned wondering why he did that. “Wouldn’t want people to think you escaped school.” He explained gesturing to my uniform. I let out a groan, in my haste to get away from Derek and the school; I had forgotten to change out of my sportswear. “Thank you.” I said leaning over to kiss his cheek, he smirked cupping my face and moving his lips to mine. I moaned into the kiss, letting go off the jacket and placing my palm on the side of his face. I pulled back and a shot of desire ran down my spine at the full blown desire in his eyes. He pressed his forehead to mine, closing his eyes and trying to control his breathing. When he was sure he was okay, he pulled away. “Let’s go get your ice cream.” I shrugged on the jacket and hopped out of the truck, happy with how his jacket enveloped me, stopping an inch or two below my sports short. He came over to my side and I reached over, grabbing his hand with mine. We walked to the diner together. The bell dinged as Jason pushed the door open, he stood aside and I walked in, looking around. The interior had a classic 80s look, complete with linoleum tiles and a juke box and a ping pong table at the extreme end. There was a long counter that also served as the bar and ice cream stand with high stools on one side of the counter. The other side of the diner contained the booth tables, with a few individual tables scattered around. The diner was empty apart from Maria who was seated, her nose deep in the latest edition of Vermont Weekly. She looked up as Jason shut the door behind him. I waved at her and she waved back, her eyes going back to her magazine. I skipped to the counter, already excited about the ice cream. I tapped on the bell, leaning forward on the counter. I could see parts of the kitchen from where I was. Jason sat near me, shaking his head at my antics. “Coming” Susie’s voice called, I sat back and watched as she walked over to us, a smile on her face. “If it isn’t my two favourite people.” She said picking up her pen and tiny notepad. “What would you both be having?” “Betty’s American Delight.” I replied with a grin on my face. “One Betty’s American Delight coming right up, and what about you Jason?” she asked. “A club sandwich” he said, she nodded and walked to the kitchen. I swiveled the stool around, looking at the diner. “I’ll miss this place.” I whispered. He hummed a reply in the affirmative. We didn’t have to wait long for Susie to come back with our order. I couldn’t help but beam at the sight of my American Delight which consisted of three scoops of vanilla ice cream, with chocolate gravy poured over it and brownies crumbled on top. I dug into it, bringing the spoon to my mouth. I moaned, closing my eyes at the heavenly taste. “This tastes for good.” I whispered taking another bite, the sound of a picture being taken had me opening my eyes. I frowned turning to Jason who was silently laughing at me, his shoulders shaking, his phone held up. “You’re mean.” I shot back, eyes narrowed. He leaned closer to me, a smirk on his face. “Never said I was nice Princess” he whispered, his eyes trailing down to my lips, before raising his thumb and wiping the chocolate smear away. My breath hitched when he sucked on his thumb. “Tasty” he whispered leaning back to grab his sandwich; I gulped, trying to calm my racing heart. Jason was going to be the death of me, literally. We finished off within minutes and with a belly full of ice cream, I let Jason lead me back to his truck. “Where to next?” He asked pulling out of the parking lot onto the road, I still didn’t feel like going back to school, infact all I wanted to do was curl up in his arms and sleep. “Can we go back to yours?” I asked. “Sorry Princess, but my folks are around.” He replied. I sighed knowing going back to mine was also out of the question; Siobhan would kill me for skipping school. “I just want to snuggle and sleep.” I muttered looking up at the ceiling of the truck. We ended up driving around until we reached an abandoned road; he set his car in park. “Where are we?” I asked looking around. “You said you wanted a place to sleep, no one comes around here so you get to sleep as much as you want with no disturbance.” He explained. I frowned wondering how I never knew about this place, I had lived here all my life, then again, I wasn’t one to explore. I could navigate Upper Vermont with my eyes closed; anywhere else was a totally different matter. He reached over to the backseat and I got a view of his defined abs, I bit my lip. Holy molly I shook my head, clearing my mind from those thoughts. He sat back having got the blanket. Pushing his seat back and laying it flat, he turned to me. “Come here Princess.” He said softly, I shrugged off his jacket and crawled over to him, straddling him. He laid down and I lay on top of him, resting my head on his shoulder, my face nestled in the crook of his neck. He spread the blanket over us, his hand creeping up my shirt and rubbing soft patterns on my back. “Thanks for the ice cream.” I whispered, “It’s nothing Princess.” He replied, raising his hand to stroke my hair. “I like when you do that.” I hummed sighing, my eyes fluttering close. “You do?” He asked. “Uh-huh, makes me feel all cozy and nice.” I mumbled. “Plus you smell really good. Like leather and oil and whatever.” “That’s nice to know.” He whispered. “Can you text Janice.” I asked sleepily. “Don’t worry about it, just go to sleep.” He said, I hummed and let myself fall into dream land. ********** A/N Thanks for reading ❤
