Chapter 1
I could hear the whispers start again all around the cafeteria. “Isn’t it odd? Her father’s one of the richest men in our town and she wastes her time with the town’s nobody. I mean the boy has no future!!!” That was Tammy Anderson, the school’s lead gossip. Wanna hear what’s up between the Principal and the lunch lady? Ask Tammy. Or why the Mr. Lane, our P.E teacher developed a sudden limp after Mrs. Rochesters’ husband came into town? Tammy surely knows. I rolled my eyes, stabbing my macaroni with the blunt fork, it was my life and I chose to live it the way I wanted. A familiar leather, oil and woodsy smell wafted to me, smiling, I looked up to see Jason Dames walking towards me. His brown wavy hair was pulled back in a manbun; grey eyes were fixed on me. Jason Dames was a fine man, even the old ladies at the retirement house raved about his beauty. Piercing grey eyes, full pink lips that rarely ever smiled and a nose that Michelangelo could only dream of sculpturing. He sat next to me, leaning closer to place a soft kiss on my lips; I could hear a scandalized gasp in the background. I smiled into the kiss, reluctantly pulling away before we got into trouble. “Where were you? I didn’t see you in Biology” I asked as he grabbed the orange from my tray. “Work, I got a call from the garage, some guy needed his car towed into town.” He explained. I nodded going back to my food; he placed the peels of the orange on the table before placing slices of the peeled fruit on my tray. “Thank you.” I whispered, he hummed a reply, slouching a little and placing his arm around the back of the bench, his other hand flung across his face. “Tired?” I asked turning to him. He nodded moving his arm to peer at me. “Was at the garage till 6am.” He explained. “Poor baby” I cooed leaning closer to him. He used the opportunity to lean up and steal a kiss. I gasped slapping his chest but he smirked before gesturing to my food. “Eat up, plus the fruit.” I rolled my eyes at him “Yes dad” “With that attitude, I might just bend you over my knee.” He muttered making my eyes go wide, the blush covering my entire face. He let out a chuckle. “You’re so innocent, it’s f*****g adorable.” Lunch ended soon and I let him lead me to class, the hallway was usually crowded but when Jason walked the halls, everyone parted, no one wanted to be caught in his path, no one wanted to mess with him. I walked by his side, my backpack was slung over his shoulder, his hand holding mine, fingers intertwined with mine. I peered up at him; his face was expressionless as it usually was in the midst of people. We finally got to Chemistry and he handed me my bag. “I’ll see you after class. Hopefully Mrs. Barnes won’t bore you to death in Literature.” I said laughing. He offered me one of his rare smiles which almost had my heart stop beating. “We’re reading Hamlet today; hopefully I don’t kill myself before Ophelia does.” He shot back. I giggled and walked into the class. “Anna, over here!!!” I looked up to see my seat partner and best friend, Janice waving me over. I smiled at her and made my way to her. “Hey Janice.” I greeted sitting next to her. “Hey lover girl!!!” she teased making me blush. Janice had been my friend since Kindergarten, my family knew hers, her family knew mine and she was the only one who approved of my relationship with Jason. I didn’t want to dwell on that so I pushed it to the back of my mind just in time as the teacher walked in. An hour passed by real quick and I found myself walking out of the class, as usual Jason was leaning against the wall waiting for me. He wrapped an arm around my shoulder, pulling me into his side before swinging my bag over his shoulders. I loved the way I fitted into him; he was way taller than me, no thanks to me inheriting my mother’s petite body structure. My head barely reached his shoulder, at times it was annoying but most times, I loved it. The bell rang signifying the end of school for that day, we walked outside to his truck, it was an old black Ford, a little beat up but I adored the car because it was his pride and joy. Most of the boys in our school drove either fancy cars or average cars but there was just something about his truck that stole my heart. I got into the truck and he got in too, I could see Janice from the rear mirror. She winked before sending me thumbs up. I didn’t have my driver’s license yet so Janice usually gave me a ride home when the chauffeur was busy. I smiled back at her knowing she would cover for me. Jason got into the car and started the engine, it roared to life and he pulled out of the school parking lot. I leaned my hand out of the window, enjoying the scenery as we took a left towards the countryside. The drive was silent, a comfortable silent, Jason and I never felt the need to fill our silence with conversations, we enjoyed each other’s presence and that was enough. He pulled up to an open filled and killed the engine, leaning to the back; he brought out a lunch box. “Hungry?” he asked, I laughed shaking my head; he shrugged, bringing out an apple and biting into it. I watched as his lips moving as he chewed, his eyes looking at the open field. Tammy’s words came back to my mind and I bit my lip still staring at him. I had always been afraid of the future, the uncertainty it held and now it was glaring at me. High School was going to be over in two months. What would happen to us after graduation? The thought scared me, kept me up at night. I already knew my parents plan for me, their Alma matter, 5000 kilometers away, Stanford. How on earth was our relationship going to survive that? “What’s wrong?” he asked, I looked up at him, and his eyes were still on the field, the core of the apple in his hand. I shook my head forcing a smile. “It’s n…” “Don’t lie to me.” He whispered turning those piercing eyes on me. I shifted uncomfortably, opening and closing my mouth, not knowing how to put my fears into words. He stretched out his arm and I took it, gasping when he pulled me towards him, I found myself in his lap, his arms around my waist, fingers stroking the skin underneath my blouse. “What’s wrong?” he repeated. I sighed nuzzling his chest and inhaling his unique scent. “Graduation.” I mumbled. “You mean after graduation?’ he inquired. I nodded pulling back to rest my back on the steering wheel. “What’s going to happen after graduation?” He shrugged looking away and giving me a view of his chiseled jaw line, a vein visible from his clenched jaw. “I don’t know baby, but whatever happens, I will always be here for you.” He whispered cupping my cheek. I smiled leaning closer to press my lips to his. He hummed into the kiss, responding my pulling me closer to him, both his hands slipping into my blouse as the kiss got heated. I let out a moan when his fingers brushed against the curve of my breast and he took the opportunity to push his tongue past my lips. I tugged his shirt out of his trouser as the kiss got more and more urgent, slipping my fingers underneath his shirt to feel his rock hard abs. His lips left mine and made their way to my neck, sucking gently and leaving soft red marks that I would have to cover up later but I didn’t care. He fingers started to unbutton my blouse when the blaring of my ringtone had us flying apart. I tried to catch my breath, while he laid his head against the headrest, eyes closed as he also tried to slow his breathing down. I reached over and saw it was a call from my mother. “s**t!!!” I whispered before answering. “Hello Mother” “Where are you?!” she asked. “With Janice” I answered. “I want you home this instant.” She ordered cutting the call. I sighed tossing the phone to the seat. “I have to get going.” I whispered, laying my head on his shoulder. He reached up and ran his fingers through my hair. “In two months you’ll be free of them.” He whispered. His words didn’t make me feel any better. I would be free of them but that might end up being the end of our relationship. I pushed the thoughts aside, pressing my lips to his. “I love you.” “I love you too”
