Laksh Wilson casually placed the woman on the back seat of the car and sat beside her, leaning in closer.
"What the hell are you doing?!" She snapped, her annoyance evident. How dare he whisk her away without her consent?
"Hey, calm down," Laksh retorted, his voice stern but controlled. "Who told you to go wandering off? Couldn't you have stayed put? Or maybe agreed when Mr. Jo offered you a ride? Do you think you're some kind of superhero?" He wasn't scolding her, but his tone was firm. She averted her gaze, unable to respond. Before long, tears welled up in her eyes, and he exhaled deeply, swallowing his own panic. No, he wasn't scolding her.
Laksh reached out, his palm gently cradling her chin as he locked eyes with her tearful gaze.
"Why do you have to do this? Do you even realize how much it hurts me to see you like this?" His words were soft and profound.
Ashu Davies stared at him in shock, unable to react. It was as if they had known each other for ages, the way he spoke with such ease.
Cupping her delicate face in his warm hands, Laksh wiped away her tears tenderly, his gaze serious. "Promise me I won't have to see these tears again," he said, his tone sincere. Her heart felt heavy, and she couldn't find her voice, but she nodded slowly, still dazed.
Laksh glanced at her sprained ankle and sighed, "From now on, no more walking alone on the streets," he instructed, turning his attention to the driver.
"Let's get going."
As the car began to move, Laksh reclined in his seat, closing his eyes with a deep sigh.
After wrapping up the meeting at the site, he had called his assistant, Mr. Jo, to inquire about the woman. When he found out she was still asleep, a wave of relief washed over him as he directed the driver towards Wilson Group headquarters. Along the way, Jo Gu called to inform him that she had already left. Panic surged within him. How could she just leave like that? She should have accepted help when she was in such a vulnerable state.
Ashu Davies found herself gazing at his handsome face, lost in her own thoughts. How had she allowed him to touch her, to wipe away her tears, and speak to her with such care? Why couldn't she scold him? Why didn't she stop him? And why was he being so kind to her when they were complete strangers?
"Why did you come to pick me up?" she asked softly, her voice filled with a mixture of curiosity and sweetness.
Laksh opened his eyes, locking his gaze with hers. "Because I care," he replied firmly, his words leaving no room for doubt. They continued to gaze at each other in silence, the intensity growing.
"Who are you, really?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You want to complain to the chairman?" he teased playfully, causing her to shake her head in denial.
"That's not what I meant," she said, lowering her eyes, only for him to continue teasing.
"Well, if you want to complain, go ahead. I'm right here in front of you," he responded, his voice deep and soothing. Her surprise was evident as she raised her head to look at him. He was the chairman or director? How was that even possible?
"What? Are you serious?" Her voice trembled slightly.
Laksh's smile grew faint, and he nodded slowly.
Ashu Davies's eyes widened, her hand instinctively covering her mouth. He was the Chairman of the Wilson Group of Companies, and she had been scolding him? She had spent the entire day in his private suite.
Laksh Wilson chuckled, reaching out to hold her hand and uncover her mouth, wanting to see her expression clearly. "You... Are you... You are..." she stammered.
Laksh nodded slightly. "I'm Laksh Wilson," he confirmed.
Her heart skipped a beat, and shock consumed her.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to fire you," he reassured her in a hushed voice, a slight smile gracing his attractive face. Ashu glanced around the car, then back at him. She was riding in the Chairman's car of the Wilson Group. She turned her head to gaze out the window, her mind drifting back to the first day they had laid eyes on each other.
Vedh Balon exhaled a cloud of smoke into the air as he gazed at the apartment gate. The terrace felt vast and desolate, his usual spot for a smoke, just to catch a glimpse of her. After a while, an elegant black car pulled up at the apartment gate, causing his eyes to narrow in confusion. He strained to see the emblem on the car's front, recognizing it as the most expensive car in the world, with only one owner in the country—Laksh Wilson.
Ashu Davies mustered her courage and met Laksh Wilson's gaze, finding him already looking at her. "I should go," she stated.
"Can you walk?" he asked.
"I can. I will. I'll take the elevator," she replied.
Laksh glanced at the elevator behind her through the car window, then back at her.
"I think it's quite far from here. Let me carry you."
"No... No... No... No... I can manage on my own. Thank you. Thank you," she insisted, swiftly exiting the car and shutting the door. She turned around and started walking briskly toward the elevator.
Laksh couldn't bear to see her like that and stepped out of the car.
"Hey," he called out.
Ashu turned around, tension etched on her face.
"Let me help you," Laksh said.
"Please, no. I can handle it myself," she replied.
"I can't stand to see you like this," Laksh said, placing his hands in his pockets, his expression pleading.
"Then close your eyes and go back," she retorted, turning away and resuming her stride.
Laksh let out a snort, shaking his head as he watched her retreating figure. Leaning back against the car, he continued to gaze at her, waiting for her to relent and allow him to assist her.
Meanwhile, from the terrace, Vedh Balon observed Ashu Davies limping. Hastily discarding his cigarette, he rushed downstairs.
Laksh sighed, growing impatient. He stepped forward swiftly, scooped her up onto his strong shoulder, and proceeded toward the elevator.
"What are you doing? Put me down," Ashu protested.
“Shut up and hold on," Laksh commanded, placing her gently on the ground in front of the elevator. She glared at him unhappily.
"Go back," she insisted.
"Ah, such a lady! I've helped you. The least you could do is welcome me into your home for a cup of coffee," Laksh grumbled, his brow furrowing.
"You used to eat my lunchbox, isn't that enough?" Ashu retorted, turning her head to face the now-opened elevator door.
"Hey," Laksh called out.
"Bye," she replied curtly, stepping into the elevator as the doors closed. Laksh let out a sigh, shaking his head helplessly. The woman was relentless. He turned back, made his way to the car, and glanced up to determine her floor. The lights were off in her window. He sighed once more, climbed into the car, and drove away.
Vedh Balon arrived at the apartment just as Ashu Davies exited the elevator, limping.
"What's wrong with your ankle?" he asked, his eyes filled with concern.
"It's sprained," she replied with a sigh. "Huff. It was such a tiring day."
He stepped forward to help her, but she tried to continue walking. He quickly stopped her.
"Wait, let me help you," Vedh insisted.
He turned around, bending down so that Ashu could wrap her arms around his neck. With a smile on her face, she held on tightly as he lifted her onto his back.
It reminded her of a time in their childhood when she had fallen and he had carried her home in a similar way.
"Doctor Vedh, you're strong," she remarked.
"I have to be strong to carry you whenever you get injured. But you are truly heartless, always increasing your weight day by day," he teased, a playful glint in his eyes.
"What did you say? Am I that heavy?" she retorted, feigning offense.
"Not for me," he replied, smiling, as he stopped at the door of the apartment.
Ashu knocked on the door, reminiscing about the teasing moment with Laksh Wilson regarding her weight. Her mother, Hina Davies, opened the door and was taken aback when she saw Ashu on Vedh's back.
"How could you climb on his back? You must be heavy," Hina exclaimed.
"Mom, can't you see I'm injured? Let us go inside," Ashu glared at her heartless mother.
Hina Davies obliged, closing the door behind them. Vedh carefully placed Ashu on the couch and sat down beside her.
"My leg is sprained," Ashu explained, her voice filled with a mix of discomfort and reassurance.
Hina Davies expressed surprise, "How did this happen?"
Ashu recalled the sweet moment when she had been close to Laksh, her leg getting sprained as he saved her from the accident.
"It was just an accident. Don't worry, Mom. I'm fine," she assured her mother.
Vedh applied some home remedies, and Ashu began to feel some relief. Vedh assisted her with gentle exercises to aid her recovery.
