I thought the sharpness of my fear would keep me from sleep, but my emotions tangled and collided until I was too wary to pull them apart, and I was dragged under into a mercifully dreamless darkness. I blinked or tried to, but my eyelids would not open. Unfortunately, when they did, the memories of the night before came colliding back, and the sharp sting of anxiety and fear chased away the lingering sleepiness. I had fallen asleep in my dress, and I did not think I had moved once in my sleep.
