Chapter Eighteen

Cecily’s POV

Coming back from Finland, I was annoyed. You would think that vampires would want to help their own kind, but most vampires have never seen a werewolf and do not understand their power and it is quite irritating. All I wanted to do now was see Milo and just forget this whole wolf mess at the moment, but I could not do that because Milo was out leading and I had to take over for him while he was gone.

“Cecily.” Cain acknowledged my presence when I walked in the room. He had moved his office from his house to the castle, seeing as it was safer. He had his face buried in papers and he looked stressed out.

“What do you need?” I asked before anything else.

“I don't think there is anything you can do to be honest. The wolves are retreating, which is what we wanted but I feel like they are doing it too easily. It has been a week since we let that wolf go that Charles was holding prisoner, the one that Lana knew?” I nodded, indicating that I knew what he was talking about. I checked up every few days to make sure that I wasn’t missing anything and that had been what everyone was talking about because they couldn’t believe that King Charles had actually let a werewolf go.

I loved who I was now, I loved working for the Royalty and not being some vampire that ran around and did nothing good. I had Lana and Erik to thank for leading me to this life, even if they had not done it one purpose.

“But, anyway the wolves are moving too easily to the center. They know about our plan, and I fear that they are going to try to use it to their advantage.”

“So what? We easily outnumber them, we have our vampire borns and they no longer have Lana. And I ran across Alesksei in Russia and she said that she gave Lana some useful information, did she tell you?”

“No, what is it?”

“It seems that there is more to Lana’s Kiss of Death than she knew. If Lana uses it on vampire borns, she can steal their powers.”

“That would be useful if Lana were going into the field, but Charles just got her back and I feel like he is not going to be willing to have her near the wolves and to be honest neither would I.”

“That is a good point. How is Angelina? I imagine that the Queen has her to heavily guarded that she isn’t able to breath.”

“Yes, well she was but recently Angelina has been sneaking out, I've caught her a few times and you’ll never guess who she is sneaking out to see, or more appropriately said, to watch.”

“Who?”

“Her niece. Angelina has grown slightly obsessed with Lana; I don't think any of us are sure as to why.”

“That does seem odd; maybe she is jealous of her. I mean their powers are so similar yet Lana’s are more powerful and everyone wants her, while Angelina is just casted off to the side.” Cain shrugged.

“Lana is the better of the two.”

“And you are biased, besides Angelina was corrupter by that women she calls—” I was not a fan of the new Queen, especially the attitude that she brought.

“Don't finish that sentence; she would have your head.” I nodded.

“Now, we have some business to deal with, such as the soldiers needing blood. I cannot risk having the humans out on that field, yet we need blood. We can't take it from our vampire borns because they need as much strength as possible, and they are going through the bags much too quickly.”

“We could always drink the wolves’ humans.”

“No, they leave a bad taste in your mouth and they tend to make the vampires sick even if they aren’t pure wolf.”

“Then you have no choice but to bring the humans out there, or to take more blood. You could also feed on the wildlife, while cutting down on the wolves’ food. I understand that they won't taste good for awhile but they will become accustomed to the taste and it is a good military strategy at the same time.”

“That is a good idea, although I know that the soldiers won't be happy about that, but honestly I think that we don’t have much of a choice.”

“Is that all you are having problems with? Why are you asking so much of me anyways?”

“Because Milo has been gone for so long and I am used to always turning to him when I need help, but now he isn’t here and you are the closest person who thinks like him. And no, I am not done but the rest can wait. How was Finland?”

“Another dead end, the only people willing to help are the Russians, Israel, and a few middle eastern countries. Canada is on the border, but seeing, as they are so close they will have no choice and the Hispanic countries want nothing to do with this, which I was completely surprised about because I thought they would help us but I guess they are having many human revolts that they have to deal with. Of course Antarctica doesn't want to help us because they are so distant and only vampires and their few select human live there so they have nothing to worry about and could care less what happens here.”

“Well, at least some people are willing to send their vampires in, though I am not quite sure if we will need them.”

“Yeah, but any help is nice.” I sighed and looked around, noticing that Cain was alone. For some reason I just assumed that, Lana would be with him at all times. “Where is Lana?”

“With Charles?”

“And you're allowing that?”

“Well, she is his blood mate. I doubted that in the beginning, but recently I noticed that she is drawn to him, actually she has been like this since she came back from her time with the wolves. I don't like it, and I want her as mine, but he is King and if he says they're mates, then there is nothing I can do about it.”

“I did hear about you paying more attention to a slave.”

“Who Elysia?”

“Yeah, I heard that you might be taking her as your favorite.”

“She is much like Lana, I bought her as a virgin…but she doesn't have that fire that Lana has, she is so gentle.”

“Do you like her?” Cain simply shrugged.

“Time for business, we can talk about Elysia later.” Earlier when we were talking about lighter subjects, he wanted to push business aside, but now that I want to talk about relationships, he wants to go back to business.

I shook my head.

“Alright, let’s get down to business.”
