The level of nervousness in the young journalist was already at an extreme level and then not being able to find the necessary stuff at the end moment was just turning the nervousness into anxiety.
Was it the same story for every average family?
“Of course, Mom!” A loud and convincing shout came as the statement continued, “I clearly remember that I had placed the hard copies of the ID and other documents right here. On the table.”
“So you're telling me that the table, let alone the living room's one, is the safest place to keep such documents huh?”
The lady's tone made the young man purse his lips before he reverted. “I mean, of course our home's living room, in your care, meaning one hundred percent safe place to keep things as my Mom can never misplace anything.” He finishes in a slightly buttery and prideful tone. The woman sighs while smiling softly.
“No, Hyuck. I can also misplace things. I can also forget to take care of things. I can also make mistakes like every other human.”
Now it was Donghyuck's turn to sigh, “I was just trying to compliment you, Mom. Why you never simply have them.” He whines and Jieun chuckles at his act.
“Oh I surely have them but at least make them relatable and realistic. And the reality of now is that we still haven't found the papers so don't try to distract me from scolding you and move your eyes and hands fast until they detect the docs.” Jieun states demandingly and Donghyuck just simply nods and follows because first, he was now really running out of time. And second, she was his mother for reasons.
And of course, even though Donghyuck was undeniably responsible, in front of his mother, he was still a baby, mommy's boy can say. And it was just ridiculously cute to be honest.
“Oh and, where did you place them last night again?” The question took Donghyuck's attention as he looked at his mother as well as the papers in her hand which they've been looking for since the very morning.
“Uhh… I don't, I clearly remember putting them here. No idea when did they get in the drawers…”
The mother starts giggling at her children's defeated explanation. “It actually means that you're careful about the things, Hyuck. Just a little childish and oblivious at times.” The man was so close to whining again but the lady cuts in, “Okay now hurry, weren't you running late just moments ago?” She piles the papers altogether and slides them inside Donghyuck's bag.
The young journalist then starts looking for his coat which his mother finds first and the man huffs as the lady helps him wearing the coat as if a gentleman was getting ready for a conference, which it actually was.
He turns and tends to carry his belongings but the lady stops and he looks in confusion while the latter admires her son in glee. “Sometimes, it's really hard to believe that my son has grown this much.” She rests her hand on the latter's cheek and the man giggles. “It feels as if it was just yesterday when my Hyuckie was still a small teddy in my arms.”
“Well, it also feels as if my Mom was a fine teen yesterday and a fine teen till today. You literally don't age I see.”
“Oh no, no. I am not a teen and never was since you were born. I was legal and I do age. Young man.”
Donghyuck rolls his eyes as he says, “Another compliment refused. Uhh… I really am bad with girls, no?” The duo laughs for a moment at the joke before Jieun once again makes a sincere face.
“All the very best for your first ever conference, Journalist Lee Donghyuck. And remember, Mommy's always with you. So don't be nervous, because everything will be fortunate today. Something unexpected yet destined is going to happen. Mommy can feel it.” She whispers as she kisses her son's forehead tenderly.
Donghyuck smiles in delight and looks back at his mother. “I love you Mom.”
“I love you more.”
______
And Jieun was not really wrong, Donghyuck could also feel that something fortunate was going to happen. Something surprising, or more like shocking yet at the same time, something fated was feeling so close to be happening. As if he was finally going to face something related to him.
Something related to him but concealed for so long. Or even, someone related to him but concealed for so long…
“But, this doesn't really seem that fortunate.” Donghyuck notices the not so normal scenario on his way to the press bureau. “Cops and trespass at one place? Means something must not be in pace.” He mutters to himself as he starts following the halted area which he should actually not but the young journalist was being journalist.
“Hey you, this area is restricted. Can't you see?”
Donghyuck sees the anxious guard reaching to him as if trying to stop him from jumping into a warfare. “I'm sorry to disrupt you officer. But I'm really not aware of what's going on here.”
“Seems like you haven't checked the live alerts of town, young man which you really should. I suggest you stay at home at this very moment– Hey you kids!” A few teens lurking around distracted the guard as he went to them, not realizing that Donghyuck still hadn't left. Well, it seemed there were multiple guards and officers barring and emptying the area. And, Donghyuck really wasn't aware as to what just happened in moments.
Like, it was all fine when he was leaving home. But then again, he hadn't checked any of the live alerts since the very morning and the reason is known as to why.
And so he reaches into his blazer's pocket to spring his phone out but some shooting of guns distracts him. He saw some people were mobbing a man who seemed around his height and… Was he the same vulnerable man from the party last night? He did look like that from behind. And if so, then this man must have been bullied a lot.
Donghyuck sees one of the mobs aiming a dagger at the man but thankfully before it could hit him, Donghyuck successfully pushes the man.
“Hey you all!” He shouts at them as they start drifting themselves away before he could call the guards or cops. He shakes his head and starts turning to the man as he asks, “You alright? Uhh, it's a bit out of context but I feel like we've met before. Are you the same guy from that party last night?”
The man lifts his face up to face Donghyuck and for a second, or maybe seconds or maybe even for hours, it felt as if everything around there was frozen. Even the man in front as Donghyuck was helplessly stunned and the latter was no less than Donghyuck's reflection, just in different clothes.
His eyes, nose, lips, skin and everything was just a reprint of Donghyuck's features. Though, there was one thing about him that mismatched. All this time, Donghyuck kept assuming him to be helpless, frightened and vulnerable but, he had an utter fierceness and no way near seemed any of what Donghyuck presumed.
But still, despite his fiery and dominant personality, Donghyuck still felt to take care of this man. He felt something, he felt connected. He felt it the very first time as well. Oh… Donghyuck still hasn't gotten an answer from the latter if he was the same guy from the party. And so Donghyuck tried to repeat his question but he couldn't do so. His lips felt to be sealed and if they even got unsealed the only thing he could release was air. The words weren't just being processed and for a moment when it felt he could utter something, the lookalike of him harshly pushed him and rushed off from the area.
And he was really nowhere helpless or weak. Like, even just a push of his got Donghyuck thrashed on the ground, not that he was too sensitive, or maybe he was but this is not important to be discussed as of now.
The thing that was important at this very moment was this guy… He did not even know his name till now. Donghyuck just couldn't understand as to why this guy was so bothered with him? Or why he was even bothered in the first place. It was already confirmed that he wasn't being bullied, no way anyone would want to pick a fight against a guy as vigorous as him. Then why he always seemed struck with problematic situations. Or, maybe it wasn't the situation that was problematic, but him?
Donghyuck sighed and shook his head as he started standing back and settling himself. He of course was going to investigate about his… Reprint? But for now, he really should go to his destination and this place was definitely not it. Or maybe it was…
“You ain't no going anywhere after creating this fuss everywhere, Haechan.” The name sounded undeniably familiar and maybe Donghyuck had been called by that name before but he couldn't get into the thoughts deeply when he saw the police officer aiming his gun sharply at him. What in the world…
Hit!
Okay, okay. This was not only it. Not especially after the unexpected arrival of another unexpected man who kicked the cop's hand which made the pistol fly in the air. The stunned expression on the officer's face was priceless but it soon turned into a disgusted one when he faced the disruptor.
The man then turns towards Donghyuck's direction and waits, wasn't he also the same man from the party who was turning Sicheng and Jungwoo sinfully with his sinful beauty? Whoa! Well, he still looked as beautiful as that night. He looked extra delicious in red. And these thoughts about a stranger were absolutely bad. But hey, Donghyuck and him have kissed! “Are you alright Haechan?” Gosh… His voice. But why does this Haechan keep coming in the scene and in between?
“Oh look, who's here on your rescue. Your pretty little twink huh.”
The not so pleasing comment made by the officer took the man's attention as he turned back to him. “Oh you don't know what I am to him. Or what we have in between us. And I bet you wouldn't want to even know, Officer Moon. Anyways…” The man stops on his track as he catches the gun. Has the gun been flying all this time?
The police officer snorts in rage and the intense jealousy could be seen in his features. “I ain't a twink. I'm Jung, Jaehyun Jung.” The man, now Jaehyun, aims the gun at the officer's direction. There was a moment of silence as the two gorgeous, yes, the officer was just another hypnotizing beauty though not as hypnotizing as Jaehyun. At least for Donghyuck as his heart was somewhat stolen by the said man but oh well.
The scene just seemed to be freezed until the officer comes forward and swifts his hand onto Jaehyun's hand which was holding the gun, trying to snatch it back but instead the bullets rolled out. The officer throws the bullets in annoyance and kicks on Jaehyun's hand making him throw the empty gun as well.
He was about to land another kick but Jaehyun prevents it from his leg and pushes the latter back and flips kicks from his side which the officer dodges. He then spins a kick down the ground and it hits the latter as he loses his balance and stumbles on the ground. Though the officer gets support from his hand before his head hits it. He flips through the support of his hand and gets back in place.
The officer comes forward and tries to smack the latter but Jaehyun grips onto his wrist and strikes him by rolling his arms around his neck. The officer struggles in attempting to unroll the hold so he boots on Jaehyun's leg and upturns him, dropping him to the surface. Jaehyun grunts at the thud and Donghyuck wants to help him but he just does not know how. Besides, he didn't even want to get into these two beauties' beef.
They seemed as if two hotties were having a cat fight, though a dangerous one which no one would want to be involved in.
Jaehyun streaks his leg above and hits the other's head and the latter gets down the floor, holding his buzzing head. Jaehyun, taking the advantage of the buzzed officer, tried knocking him down but the officer smacked him harshly before he could do so.
The two hot and enraged men continued with their fight while Donghyuck just stayed still, literally not having a single idea as to what should be done, what he should do.
Thankfully, the fight seemed to be stopped but not for a good reason of course. “When I said that you ain't not going anywhere this time, then you ain't going this time. No one can stop me from chasing you down.” The officer exclaims as he springs a dart shooter and fits a dart inside. “You're under arrest, Don.”
Wait, what?
Before Donghyuck could even process the words and especially that certain term, Jaehyun barges in with what seemed like a grenade in his hand. What even…
“You think, Officer Moon Taeil.”
Flash!
______
Haechan was not an evil, like, he did multiple devilish things which he of course regretted eventually but still, he wasn't an evil. Or at least he didn't consider himself as one.
Well anyways, he wasn't an evil, neither was he an angel who would blandly help anyone or everyone. Including that silly lookalike of him. So what if he looked like him? A random source of science had said that a person has seven duplicates of them in the world. He was just one of them. Nothing special.
But he had saved him. Not only once but twice. But again, what if he even saved him? Haechan never asked him to help. He probably just wanted to appear as some saviour or a hero or whatever s**t but there is no way Haechan was going back to see if the guy was okay. He didn't care. He really didn't care. He absolutely gave no f***s.
“Ahh!” A frustrated and rumbled Haechan huffs as he stops on his path.
He cared. He f*****g cared about that strange and oblivious lookalike of him which he didn't even know, neither relate. But maybe what people say for the sake of humanity, and maybe… He did feel related?
He shakes his head but turns around nonetheless. He starts walking back to the barred area where he encountered him. He hadn't been so far so it would not take him much to reach back there and it really didn't.
Haechan was almost there but he could not just barge back. It seemed like the guards and officers had cleaned up the spot as he couldn't spot any general public. Neither even that guy. Well, that was obvious. Or maybe, suspicious?
He starts fixing his glasses and mask while going forward to look around but not even a minute after, he felt metallic rings cuffing onto his hands.
“Mission accomplished.”
Haechan was about to say, or just even react but he couldn't really do so. Many cops surrounded him and even Taeil didn't look to be playing at this very time.
He did not even have any weapons on him and he realizes that in just a mere moment, Taeil had cuffed both of his hands. He was cuffed, and catched.
“Don, I finally chased you down.”
