Change can either be the thing that changes and exhilarates you or leaves you broken in ways you never knew possible...
Ferrah had taken her loss so heavily, we all felt it. Finn was mourned for a whole week after I found out he was dead. Although we searched relentlessly, we never found his body.
"Ferrah, let me take Quinn for a little while. You haven't slept-"
"I know...I can't..." She rocked Quinn back and forth in the rocking chair. She looked so pale, with dead eyes. I had tried everything to get her to sleep. So I decided to have her drink an elixir without her knowing. I slipped it into the water I gave her. It was tasteless; any moment now, she would knock out.
"I just-I want..." Ferrah's head fell limp as her arms dropped down. Quinn slipped from her arms; I hurriedly grabbed him holding him close to my chest.
Quinn squirmed. "Hi sweetheart, don't worry, your mama's fine. I'll hold you for now until she wakes again, okay?" I wiggled my finger at him; his eyes widened, mesmerized by it. He followed it with his beautiful big brown eyes. I let him death grip my finger as I carried him out of Ferrah's room, closing the door behind me.
It had been a couple of months now, and things were a little on edge. Everyone was paranoid by the thought of someone overtaking Finn so quickly; oddly, they didn't blame me for his death. If anything, they were accepting that I was now part of them.
"I'm surprised you got Quinn out of Ferrah's arms." I turned to Bane, who had slept probably less the Ferrah since Finn's death. Although he had bags under his eyes, he still managed a smile as he gently stroked Quinn's head.
"Can I confess something?"
Bane raised an eyebrow at me.
"I drugged her to get her to sleep, and I'm about to do the same to you if you don't get your ass to bed," I warned. He chuckled, leaning against the wall. "I will; I just can't right now."
I sighed; Bane had been worrying me lately. He stayed up most nights; I could feel him tossing and turning. The way he looked now was horrible. Bane's hair had grown to his shoulders, and his usual faded 5'oclock shadow was now growing into a beard. Finally, I caught sight of Cain's mate, who had just had a pup not too long ago; I rushed over to her.
"Hey, can you watch Quinn for an hour or two? Ferrah needed some sleep; she's exhausted." She gladly took Quinn under her wing. "Of course! I love this little guy!" She rushed off with him.
I turned my attention to Bane, who was nodding off against the wall. I grabbed his arm, pulling him with me back to our room. "You're going to take the elixir and get some sleep."
"I'm not a pup; you don't have to tell me-"
"I do have to treat you like one, now be a good boy and get in bed," I demanded in a playful voice. Bane raised an eyebrow to me again then smirked.
He chuckled. "I love it when you get all demanding..." I felt a sharp sting on my backside. I quickly stopped and turned to Bane, who was looking around like he didn't do anything. It was cute; even though he felt like s**t, he was still trying to be playful; part of me wanted to indulge him; god knows I missed his touch...
"What?" He asked. I bit my lips, then yanked him by the arm into the bedroom and closed the door shut. I pushed him on the bed and climbed on top of him, straddled him. We hadn't had time alone in a long time, and it was starting to drive me crazy; I wanted him-no; I needed to feel him.
I felt my eyes shift as I tore his shirt off. His eyes grew wide; then he groaned, pulling me into a heated kiss; his tongue explored my mouth, making me moan softly. I dug my nails into his chest; Bane inhaled sharply as his eyes shifted, but they went out as soon as they lit up.
Bane grunted in pain, holding his chest. I quickly got off him.
"Bane? Bane what's wrong?"
"I'm fine, I-It's just an s-sharp pain." He grimaced, clenching his teeth together. This had happened twice now; whenever he tried to trigger his wolf, he couldn't connect to it...it worried me more and more because I had no idea what was causing it.
He ran his hand through my hair. "I'm alright Lucia, It was just a for a moment." but I couldn't help but feel something else was wrong...
"Bane, should we just stop trying to make-"
"NO." Bane looked so tired, yet he tried to make it seem like he was okay to do anything. I wanted to believe him, but this was scaring me.
"I don't want you to think I can't make love to you, Lucia...I don't want you to think of me as weak." He said the last words with hatred in his voice. My heart ached; why would he ever think that way?
I cupped his face in my hands. "I would never think of you as weak, Bane; remember what you said to me? We are each other's strength. So don't ever think I see you as weak, baby."
Bane's eyes shifted again, pulling me into a crushing kiss. He growled low in his throat as he flipped me onto my back. He nudged himself in-between my legs. He started to leave trails of kisses down my neck where he had marked me. Shivers of pleasure pulsated throughout my body. I hadn't felt him like this for so long; it felt like an itch I couldn't scratch, but I didn't want to push him no matter how much I wanted him...
I could see his eyes flickering out again. I lifted myself wrapping my hands around his neck. "Bane, you need to rest, please-"
"No, I don't need to..."
I slipped from under him, quickly grabbing my elixir. I came back as he laid on his back, practically panting. Something was wrong with him, if his pack found out he was this weak, someone would challenge him for his spot, and he wouldn't be able to fight...
I lowered his head back, pouring the elixir into his mouth. In as little as a few minutes, he was asleep. I sighed a breath of relief. Although in the pit of my stomach, there was a sinking feeling I had already decided, if anyone challenged Bane for Alpha, they would have to fight me...and I was a dirty fighter.
