There was to be a banquet starting at noon to welcome Qing Xue home, but he had been expected to come to the main palace much earlier to give his father his personal greetings and sit with him to talk. It was easy enough to guess whom he had chosen to visit first instead. While it’s true that the Emperor could have easily sent someone to summon his son and make him arrive sooner, the older man’s pride wouldn’t let him make such a move. It would make him appear jealous and weak. He couldn’t tolerate it. Qing Xue arrived at the closed entrance to the banquet hall just as the Emperor himself was making his way to it.
