You're Not Special to the CEO

1033 Words
Hannah vowed that she would one day return the humiliation Anna had subjected her to. With this resolve, her ambition only grew stronger, her desire to climb the ranks becoming almost palpable. Just as these thoughts filled her mind, she noticed Charles returning, not with Anna as she had expected, but alone, with a grim expression. Hannah's eyes flickered briefly with a hint of doubt, but she quickly masked it with an expression of calculated vulnerability. As Charles approached, she stepped forward, wearing a look of feigned distress. “CEO…” Charles looked at her silently, his eyes cold and unreadable. Hannah's heart raced with excitement; she was convinced that her plan was working. She even allowed herself to blush slightly, her eyes filled with a shy, hopeful light as she gazed at him. She was certain now that the CEO had feelings for her. After all, why else would he have ignored Anna's misinterpretation of their relationship earlier? Wasn't his silence a tacit admission? With her imagination running wild, Hannah was already envisioning her future as the CEO's wife. But the next moment, Charles’s voice, as cold as ice, cut through her fantasies: “When Anna came, what did you say to her?” Hannah's eyes widened in shock, a flash of panic crossing her face. “I… I didn’t say much. She called me a vixen and accused you of staying out because of me…” Her voice trembled slightly, but it was clear she took some satisfaction in those words, hoping to drive a wedge between Anna and Charles. Charles didn’t press further. He simply walked past her, leaving Hannah to believe that he had bought her story. But as she was silently celebrating her victory, Charles spoke again: “Have her go to the finance department to settle her wages. Then, she’s to leave BGE immediately.” Hannah’s face went deathly pale. She looked up, desperate, hoping to catch Charles’s gaze, but all she saw was his back, cold and unyielding. “Char… CEO…” Hannah tried to follow him, but Michael Collins, who had been trailing behind Charles, stopped her. “Michael…” “CEO despises people who lack self-awareness and cause trouble. The company has no shortage of secretaries to accompany him to events. I can easily replace you with someone else. You're not special to the CEO.” Michael’s words were harsh and unforgiving, shattering the arrogance Hannah had built up. The message was clear: her role as Charles’s event companion was not because he valued her, but simply because Michael had chosen her. “Anna was right—you’re too stupid for any important occasion. Your biggest mistake was thinking you could deceive the CEO. You just lost your last chance to come clean with him.” Hannah was now in full-blown panic mode. The arrogance she once wore like armor had vanished, replaced by fear and desperation. Being fired from BGE wasn’t the worst part—it was the fact that Charles had personally dismissed her. What other reputable company would hire her after this? She was unwilling to accept her fate and couldn’t understand why, despite his apparent hatred for his wife, Charles would side with Anna without question, even to the point of firing her. Didn’t Charles hear the degrading things Anna said about him? “Michael, I… I realize I was wrong. Please, help me. I won’t make the same mistake again…” There was no way Michael would risk offending his boss, who was clearly in a foul mood, just to help a clueless fool like Hannah Wilson. You’d think someone who made it into the CEO’s office would have a bit more sense, but apparently not… It turns out, unchecked ambition really can cloud a person’s judgment. Michael Collins shot Hannah an unsympathetic look and said flatly, “Resign voluntarily. If you force us to kick you out with security, you won’t have even a shred of dignity left.” “Michael Collins…!” Hannah’s carefully maintained facade shattered as she broke down in tears in the BGE lobby, forgetting all pretense of composure. The other employees, who had been watching the drama unfold, showed no sympathy. Why would anyone bother comforting someone who had strutted around like she owned the place just because the CEO had taken her to a couple of events? Now that she’d fallen out of favor, no one was going to stick their neck out for her. After dealing with Hannah, Michael hurried to the elevator. As he thought about the boss’s dark, stormy expression, he felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. He couldn’t figure out why Mrs. Bennett was suddenly so eager to divorce, and what puzzled him even more was the fact that the CEO, who had been pushing for the divorce, was now dragging his feet. Just as Michael stepped out of the elevator, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and saw that it was Anna calling. Normally, Mrs. Bennett would only call him if she couldn’t reach Charles, but today, something told him this call was trouble. As he hesitated to answer, a secretary rushed up to him. “Michael, the CEO is asking for you.” “…Alright.” Michael entered Charles’s office, the phone still ringing in his hand. Charles’s gaze zeroed in on the phone, a coldness in his eyes that could freeze a person’s soul. Noticing his boss’s focus, Michael hurriedly stepped forward, offering the phone. “It’s… It’s Mrs. Bennett.” Charles remained silent, his expression unreadable, but Michael could feel the tension in the room. “CEO, should I answer the call?” In that moment, Michael truly understood the meaning of "walking on eggshells." Charles looked up at him, the storm in his eyes growing fiercer with every ring. “Answer it!” “Yes, sir.” Michael pressed the answer button and put the call on speaker. Anna’s voice, tinged with clear irritation, came through the line. “Michael, tell Charles that my time isn’t meant to be wasted. If he doesn’t have time to finalize the divorce today, then he needs to give me a definite date.”
