My Birth Right

Chapter 3: Relatives

*Lilith*

               “I’m truly sorry, but you need to run and hide that’s all I can say” that was all she said as she pushed Cathy and I out of the tree, when we turned around to confront her again, the tree had disappeared, and we were standing alone in the middle of nowhere. “f**k!” I yelled pissed off at what had happened, Cathy jumped back startled at my sudden outburst, I couldn’t help it I was mad, that Witch knew what was going on and she didn’t tell me anything. I was now left with more questions than before and confused at what had happened. “Coming here was a bad idea, I’m sorry I dragged you along and made you do this” Cathy said putting a hand on my shoulder to calm me down. “It’s ok, it’s not your fault, I wanted to know too” I sighed, “yeah” she whispered not knowing what else to say, “we should go home” I said, feeling tired from everything that had happened today. We both got into our own cars and drove back home, disappointed at how things had turned out today.

               I shot right up from my sleep “she’s awake” I said out loud, “finally after 10 years I’ll finally be able to find her.” I walked downstairs to find Cole my brother in the kitchen having a midnight snack “she’s awake” he looked up from his cup “what?” he asked looking at me confused “she’s awake, get your most trusted warriors and find her, she’s somewhere in America” I said already getting irritated at him. “Could you be more specific maybe? Where in America?” “I don’t know the link cut off as soon as it came in, hire as many Witches as you can. I want her found first before anyone else! Do you understand?!” I screamed the last part at him, I was getting angry at him already, this was important, and he was taking his sweet time; with every second that passed, it gave somebody else the opportunity to find her first. I’ve been waiting 10 years; she’s not going to escape from me again.

               When we got home, I went straight to my room and passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow. The next day I woke up around noon, I did not feel like doing anything today, my stomach growled, and I got up with a loud sigh slowly making my way to the kitchen, if it wasn’t for my stomach, I would have stayed in bed all day. I made myself some eggs and bacon, Cathy was already gone probably out on a hike like always, she liked going alone. I sat down at the table and noticed there was a single letter addressed to me, so I grabbed it and opened it.  

               Dear Lilith, my name is Odalis, I am your cousin. You probably don’t remember me as we were still little girls when we knew each other. It has come to my attention that your birthday is coming up and we would like to host a party in your honor and welcome you back. Of course, you will have to fly to London, but don’t worry all expenses are paid for including your friend Cathy, we hope to see you soon. Sincerely Odalis.  I read the letter out loud “I didn’t know I had family in Europe” this was something new, so I called my aunt to confirm, as much as I hated it, she was the only one who would know for sure.

               When Cathy got home later that day, I showed her the letter “well this is unexpected” she said with no surprise “huh?” I looked at her confused “oh um nothing… don’t you think it’s weird that after what happened yesterday suddenly you have family appearing out of nowhere?” “that’s what I thought too, but I gave my aunt a call and she said that indeed I have family in Europe, she didn’t say anything else though” “well what are we waiting for then? Let’s pack!” Cathy said excitedly “I don’t even know these people, and you want to go just because they say they’re family?” I looked at her in surprise, she’s usually the one that tells me to stay away from strangers. “Well they are throwing a party, also Raven told you to run and hide. What better start on that than to leave the country?” she rationalized. “I guess you have a point, let’s go pack!” I smiled getting excited too, I did always want to go to Europe, I run up the stairs to my room and started packing, with Cathy running behind me smiling as well.  

               Two tickets had been included in the envelope where the letter was sent, the departure was tonight. We paid our house bills in advanced because we were going to be gone for a while probably until after August and we were barely starting July, I also called my work and told them I would be gone for a few months. Cathy called one of her friends to give us a ride to the airport, also he agreed to look after the house while we were gone, which was great because I didn’t like leaving the house unattended for long periods of time. We arrived at the airport at 7:30 and said our goodbyes to her friend. We checked our bags, gave our tickets to the clerk, and boarded the plane with each carrying a backpack with our more personal stuff. After just a few minutes of waiting the plane finally took off.

               I fell asleep during the flight and woke up the next day just as we were descending. We got our backpacks and exited the plane, we got our suitcases and started to head outside the airport. As we were descending the escalators, I spotted a man dressed in a black suit holding a piece of paper with Cathy’s and my name on it. “Hi, I’m Lilith and this is my friend Cathy” I waved walking up to him “welcome to London miss Lilith, miss Cathy, this way” he motioned for us to follow him. He walked over to a limousine and put our bags in the trunk. Cathy and I just stood there with our mouths open, we had never ridden in a limo before and now we were going to get our first experience riding one. “Ladies” the man opened the door for us extending his hand for us to hold while he helped us in, we took his hand and gladly climbed inside.
