Chapter 10: Shadows

*Adrian*

               I woke up the next day and looked over at Lilith who was still sleeping in my arms, I gave her a kiss on the forehead and smiled, last night was the best night I’ve had so far. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t notice the shadow staring at me just a few feet away from Lilith. I flinched back and stared back at the shadow; it was just kneeling there staring at me in confusion moving its head from one side to the other. Another shadow suddenly appeared and dropped some clothes on the ground right before disappearing again. What the f**k was that? I thought to myself “I don’t feel a threat coming from them” Damon said in my head “you’re right, so what do you think they’re doing here?” I asked him back. “Well maybe you should thank them for the clothes, you wouldn’t want Raven and Dominick to find you and our mate naked when they come back.” As much as I hate to admit it Damon was right, I loudly sighed and startled Lilith awake. She looked up at me and smiled, I leaned closer to her and pecked her on the lips “Good morning beautiful” she chuckled “Good morning handsome” she said back. She looked around and realized that we were naked in the middle of a field. I reached for the clothes and handed them to her. She sighed in relief “thanks, where did you get these?” she curiously asked, “actually a shadow dropped it off” I said but more in a question I was curious to see if she knew anything about that, instead she froze for a second then looked around as if trying to find the shadows that were just here not that long ago.

               “They are gone, if you’re looking for them. One of them just dropped off clothes out of nowhere and disappeared” I said as I started putting my clothes on. She finished dressing and turned to look at me. “It’s weird that you say shadows were the ones that gave us these… I used to see shadows all the time when I was younger” there was a hint of fear in her voice when she said that; if I saw shadows all the time then yeah, I would probably be scared too. “well they didn’t feel like a threat, and they brought clothes for us, so I don’t think there’s anything to worry about” I walked up to her, grabbed her by the waist and kissed her mark. I felt the hairs on her neck stand up as she got goosebumps from my touch, I smiled to myself then turned her around and kissed her again, she started kissing me back, but then broke the kiss off leaving me wanting more of her. “You know these guys just left and didn’t even tell us how to find food here” she had an unbelievable tone to her voice and crossed her arms across her chest. Damn she looks so beautiful when she’s getting mad, I chuckled, and she gave me a glare. I took her in my arms again and was about to go for another kiss when I saw some more shadows appear with plates full of food on them and set them on the ground, she saw me get distracted and pushed away from me to see where I was looking, by the time she turned around, the shadows were gone.

               Her face suddenly lit up with excitement, she rushed over to where the food was and started eating waffles. The plates were actually platters full of different food: waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausages, eggs, hash browns. I sat down and started eating as well, all these foods looked delicious. “This place is amazing” she said with her mouth full. After we were done eating it was back to meditating, as much as I wanted to have her under me again, she needed to practice and hopefully get her magic before these guys returned.

               *Dominick*

               Raven and I left Lilith and Adrian in the time space so that she could hopefully summon her magic by herself, we could only help her with so much, but summoning was something she had to do by herself. “you don’t think they’re going to get distracted in there?” Raven asked amused. “Most likely, but if it helps her relax so that she can meditate better, then so be it” I said back “ugh, you’re no fun” she crossed her arms over her chest pretending to be annoyed by me, I chuckled at the sight of her, if anything was amusing, it was the sight of seeing her. I learned that she’s my mate, but because she’s a full Witch, they don’t feel the attraction of the mate bond like werewolves and vampires do. I teleported us back to Bloodmoon pack to retrieve Cole back to Darkwood pack. This time I didn’t teleport us right into the office instead I teleported us right outside of the castle. Jack was in the middle of a training lesson when we arrived, he excused the pack members and jogged over to us.

               “Hey guys, what’s up?” he was out of breath “hey Jack! Long time no see” Raven walked up to him, and have him a big hug, he lifted her up and spun her around once before putting her back down, I got a little jealous of that, but I couldn’t say anything; after all she did not feel the mate bond like I did. “Let’s go to the office” he started walking inside and we followed behind, once we were in the office we could finally talk. “Jack? has Darrion or Alpha Adrian got in contact with you yet?” I asked taking a seat in one of the couches that was in the office room. “No, not yet. Why? Is something wrong?” I sighed not wanting to explain what had just happened in Romania. “We managed to save Lilith” Jack sighed with relief “But she’s still in danger” Raven added. Jack’s eyes suddenly went black, meaning that his wolf had taken over “What?...” using my super speed, I cut him off by getting in front of him and putting a hand over his chest pushing him away from Raven. “give Jack back control…NOW!” I demanded the last word, Jack looked at me angry before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, when he opened them back up, his eyes were back to normal, “sorry” he walked around the desk and sat down putting his hands over his face.

               After he calmed down a little bit Raven continued, “there is a new threat that is after Lilith, this one is much more dangerous than Ciaran. He almost managed to kill Alpha Derek” Raven said in a low voice “Well what do we have to do?” Jack asked. “We currently have Lilith in a time space, practicing defending herself, and to use her magic, we think a war is going to break out soon. We need to wake up Cole” I said, “Why do you need him for, I’m pretty sure he gave us all the information we needed last time” Jack sounded annoyed, he didn’t think Cole could help in any way, but he was wrong. “Actually, the new threat is Cole’s newly awakened father, and I need his permission for something. Being a royal vampire, he has power over them as their prince; he can make vampires fight on our side against his father. I also need him for something else” I finished. “What is this thing you need him for?” Jack asked cautiously, “if I could tell you I would” he started to get mad again but then Raven interfered. “Vampires have the power of compulsion over humans, but a royal vampire can also compel other vampires. If he can’t tell you what it is, it’s because he’s been compelled” a smile broke out over my face, she was truly knowledgeable.  

               Jack walked us over to the pack hospital where they were keeping Cole under observation because of his coma. “How is he doing?” I asked, “there are still no signs of him getting better, he just remains the same” Raven walked over to Cole and sat down on the side of the bed. Raven reached into one of her pockets and took out a small vile, it contained blood in it; not just any blood, that was Lilith’s blood I could smell it. I felt my eyes dilate and realized I hadn’t fed in a few days, I turned away from the blood, Jack took notice of my state reached into a cooler that was next to the hospital bed and threw me a blood bag. I quickly opened it and drank the contents inside of it. “thank you, I really needed that” I said as I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. “I figured you would be hungry” he shrugged his shoulder and looked back at Raven. She had been looking at me as well, when I gave her a nod letting her know I was alright she turned back to Cole and fed him Lilith’s blood.

               It was a small vile and there wasn’t much blood in there, but it did the trick. Cole sat up so fast he almost fell out of the bed, Raven got up fast and moved out of the way a little scared. I probably should have been the one to give him the blood, oh well. I walked up to Cole and sat where Raven had been sitting “Cole? Do you remember where we are?” I asked him looking right into his eyes. He looked a little confused as he was looking at his surroundings wondering what happened, then he landed his gaze on me. “How long have I been out?” he finally asked, I sighed in relief thankful that he remembered. “You’ve been out for almost three days now” I finally told him; he snapped his eyes back to mine in alarm. “Lilith? where is she? Is she safe? The vampires! What happened to Darkwood?” “whoa, whoa, whoa slow down there, one question at the time” Raven put her hands out motioning for him to slow down. “Lilith is fine for now” he raised his eyebrow at me “what do you mean for now?” he said in a dangerous tone, I took a deep breath in and let it out, I didn’t know what his reaction was going to be, so I needed to brace myself. “Vladimir is awake” Coles eyes widened in fear “It’s time to wake him up” he looked at me straight in the eyes releasing the compulsion he had over me.  

               *Adrian*

               After Lilith took her meditating position and closed her eyes, shadows started appearing around her, studying her. I stood up in alarm “calm yourself Adrian, they are not here to hurt our mate” Damon said. “How come they only appear when she’s not looking?” “how should I know? I don’t know about magic” he got annoyed at me that I would ask him a question I already knew the answer to, either way I mentally rolled my eyes at him. “Those things are connected to us” “huh?” I was taken aback by his statement “what do you mean?” “concentrate on them, feel them. We are connected to them and our mate also” he calmly said. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the creatures that were surrounding Lilith, after a while I could feel them. They have a strange feeling to them that I cannot explain, but Damon is right, we are connected. “Do you think this is because she gave us her blood?” I asked Damon “It’s a possibility” he said then made his way to the back of my mind to rest.

               *Lilith*

               Ever since Adrian and I marked each other I’ve been able to feel everything he does, there were so many questions going through his mind. He suddenly relaxed, was he meditating? Then I felt other presences around me. I slowly opened one of my eyes and a shadow was in front of me staring at me. This shadow didn’t necessarily have any eyes, it had the shape of a person, but it was all black and kind of see through. I opened my other eye now and looked around, there were at least ten shadows surrounding me and just staring at me with curiosity. What were these things? And why were they staring at me? “you made us” one answered in the voice of a little girl, but the voice was in my head. Adrian fell backwards completely startled “did she say you created them?” I looked at him confused. “Wait. Did you hear her?” “yes” he answered. “we are part of your magic. We have been trying to break out for years, but now that your power is awakened, we have no problem coming out” the shadows suddenly merged together and in front of me stood a shadow of myself. “I am part of your magic, I will guide you in everything you need to know” her voice suddenly changed to that of mine, I was speechless and couldn’t find the words to speak. I looked over at Adrian that had walked up to me who was speechless as well.   

               It took me a few minutes to process what was happening, “So, what did you mean when you said you were trying to break out?” I finally asked “the protection spell that you had on you; I was trying to break it” “how? If you’re my magic, how is it that you’re here?” I was getting confused. My shadow smiled creepily before responding “you summoned me, part of you didn’t want the spell so I developed a conscience of my own. Eventually I will merge completely into you again. Unless you don’t want to. But either way, I’m stuck to you” she smiled at me again. “So how come I can see and hear you?” Adrian asked. “Since I am part of her, after you marked each other last night you are now able to hear me. But anyone can see me really, if Lilith wants them to” she then stepped closer to me and disappeared inside my body. “I will show you everything you need to know” images flashed before my eyes, I knew everything I needed to know, now I just need to practice.    

               We had been here for about two weeks now just practicing on how to use the magic I now knew how to use, and I was feeling very confident about using it, I learned that I could take my shadow out and she could use magic without having to be attached to my body; that will come in handy in the future if I ever need it. I could control the elements and cast spells without even having to say anything, I was feeling powerful, and Adrian could feel it too. The whole time he would just stare at me in amazement, and when the day was over we would once again embrace each other; I loved being with him, and I loved having him over and over again until we would fall asleep in each other’s arms. The next morning felt different from the rest of the days and my shadow forced herself out of my body “we need to get back” she said in a serious tone which was weird, she always talked in a creepy way “what do you mean? Don’t we have to wait for Raven or Dominick to get us out?” she scoffed “No, we can do it ourselves, are you ready?” she sounded excited to get out of here and I was wondering what could have her acting like this. I nodded in approval and went back inside. I took Adrian’s hands and we got out.   

               We made it back to my uncle’s castle, everything was the same as we had left it when we arrived two weeks ago. But here no time had passed at all, so it was still the same day. Adrian and I made our way inside of the caste and headed to my uncle’s office. I knocked on the door and waited for an answer “come in” I heard a voice said, we opened the door and walked in, but my uncle was not there. “Wesley, where is Alpha Derek?” Adrian asked, “Alpha Adrian, I’m sorry, but the Alpha is in the pack hospital resting, he’s being kept for observation” he said the hospital part looking at me to reassure me that he was ok. “Thank you, Wesley, we will head there now” I said. He bowed his head to me, and we made our way to the hospital. By the time we got there my uncle was awake and arguing with the doctor on being released. “I am the Alpha! If I say I am good to go then I am good to go!” we heard him growl from the hallway. Adrian and I looked at each other before taking off on a run to where we heard the yelling. “Sorry Alpha” the doctor bowed his head in submission as my uncle had used his Alpha voice on him, “You know uncle, he’s only trying to make sure you’re ok” he looked up at me and smiled opening his arms to me for a hug, I walked up to him and without knowing tears were falling from my eyes, it has been too long. “I’ve missed you uncle” I said through sobs, he petted my hair and kissed the top of my head, “I’ve missed you too Lilith, I’m glad you’re safe.” After a few minutes we finally convinced the doctor to let my uncle out, he was fine and keeping him in here was probably not a good idea. We walked outside and made our way to one of the gardens, Raven and Dominick appeared with two men by their side, my eyes widen at the realization of who one of those men were “Dad.”

               *Blake*

               -10 years ago-

               We were not expecting Ciaran to follow us to the Coven of Witches, but he did somehow. He started killing everyone there, and his army of vampires were outside killing the rest of them. Ciara mind linked me to run and get our little girl out of here. I picked her up from the floor where she fell and started running. I noticed the other child that was in here had frozen in fear, I headed towards her to get her out of danger. As I was running Ciara was decapitated by her father, pain ran through my whole body, suffering from her loss. I wanted to give up right then and there, “we can’t give up” I heard Zion in my head “we still have to save our daughter, no matter how much it pains me, we have to be strong for her” he was right, my little girl still needed me. “Raven! Run, get out of here!” I heard the elder witch yell. I pushed through the pain and ran, I picked up the little witch girl and headed towards the exit of the giant tree. I didn’t know where I was going, my eyes were blurred from the tears; I wasn’t thinking straight I was just running trying to get away from Ciaran to keep my little girl and Raven safe.  

               Ahead of me there seemed to be two men waiting for me and I stopped running, as I came closer, I saw that they were two vampires, no we’ve been caught. I started to lose hope as they started walking towards me, and out of nowhere I felt this sudden overwhelming power coming out from inside of me. Zion let out a warning growl for them not to come any closer, I set down Raven and Lilith on the ground, they were both passed out; I looked back up to the two vampires were and let out another growl. “We are not here to harm you or the girls, we are here to help” the older one said, I didn’t believe what he was saying, next thing I know a lightning bolt shoots out of my hand. The younger one blocked it with a barrier he put up, wait is he a warlock? “Alpha Blake please let me help, but we need to leave now before Ciaran finds us” he said with urgency. “Go with them… NOW!” Zion growled at me demanding that I listen to them, I picked up the girls again and nodded my head at them, they approached me and when they touched me, we disappeared.   

               “Who are you? And where are we?” I finally asked seeing that the danger was no longer close, “I’m sorry for the way we had to do things, I would have liked to meet under different circumstances, my name is Cole” he extended his hand out to me to shake, Zion didn’t feel any ill intent coming from him, so I took his hand and shook it back. “One thing you should know about me is that Ciaran is my older brother” Zion growled at the mention of Ciaran “there is no need to worry though I am nothing like him, I would like to help keep my grandniece safe” “what do you get out of all of this anyway?” I started to sound angry. “I never believed in the ways that my brother rules over the vampires, he killed my daughters! They were mine and he took them from me” Cole broke out crying and dropped to his knees holding his face with his hands. I walked up to him and put my hand on his shoulder, I could not believe what he just confessed, tears of my own started pouring from my eyes, I had just lost my mate too.  

               After we got done crying, we hugged each other but not in a weird way “By the way, this is my son Dominick” I gave Cole a weird look as I shook Dominick’s hand “Adopted son, nice to meet you Alpha Blake” Dominick said, “Nice to meet you as well.” We walked over to a giant tree like the ones in the coven we had just left, “We will leave the girl here, this tree is within Bloodmoon pack, they will look after her and make sure she’s safe, Alpha Claw has already been informed of this” I set the girl down and Cole left a note for her. “We will find a random human and compel her to think Lilith is her niece, we will make up a story and she will be kept safe, as for you; you will need to disappear as well” Cole said with a sad look on his face. “Can’t I just go with her?” I asked hopeful that he would say yes “I’m sorry, Dominick will place a temporary spell on you to keep you hidden, unfortunately the spell will put you in a sleep like state” “If this is what it takes to keep my daughter safe, then so be it” I held back my emotions, it hurt me to leave my daughter like this, but it had to be done. I took her in a hug and kissed her forehead, “I will see you again my Lilith” a single tear fell from my eye, I wiped it off and turned to Cole “Keep her safe” Dominick started chanting and his eyes started to glow “I will” that was the last thing he said before darkness consumed me.  

               I opened my eyes and looked around in the room I was being kept “Hello old friend” I heard Cole’s voice, I looked at him in confusion, wasn’t Dominick supposed to put me to sleep? I tried getting up, but my body gave up, a girl walked over to me and fed me some blood, wait this blood smells like Lilith. Zion took over my body and started to shift ready to attack, my body froze mid shift and I stared back at the girl with anger, she hurt my Lilith. I took a deep breath through my nose, my eyes widened at the realization that the girl in front of me was Raven. The anger left my body, and I started to shift back, she unfroze me and I fell to the floor. My body had its strength back, did my daughter’s blood do this to me? “Mr. Blake it’s nice to see you again, I’ve been meaning to thank you for rescuing me 10 years ago” she said with a small voice full of gratitude. “Welcome back to the living” Dominick walked up to me and gave me a slap on the back, he still looked the same as when I met him. I looked over at Cole and he smiled and gave me a hug “have I really been asleep for 10 years?” I asked, my voice sounding a little weak. “I’m sorry it took so long” he said with an apologetic voice “are you ready to see your daughter?” I smiled big at the sound of seeing my daughter again “yes.” Raven and Dominick teleported us to Darkwood castle, in front of us my brother was walking with a girl and a man; the girl locked eyes with me, and her eyes widened tears threatening to come out “Dad” I gasped at her words.
