The scorching sun peeked through the leafy tree branches, painting patches of warmth on his clammy skin and damp clothes. One particular beam of light hit him right in the eyes, irritating him and forcing him to wake up from his troubled sleep. But opening his eyes felt like a struggle too hard for him to win. Thankfully, he knew where he was, so panic didn’t sail through him. Instead, Gabriel shifted his head, hoping to avoid the direct light, but still kept his eyes shut as he waited for his eyelids to muster the energy to open.
