Chapter 19

"Did something happen at the cafe?" The question came a bit abruptly. Seina's hand that was holding a plate paused midway. She was about to wash off the foam on the kitchen counter. Aiden looked up from his drawing activity upon hearing his mother's question. However, he understood nothing, so he went back to picking a crayon and busied himself. "You know?" Seina bit her lips, hesitation painted on her face. "It's not such a big deal," Seina shook her head. "I am going to look for another job." Mia was silent for a moment, secretly cursing Leon's insidious heart for making the lives of the two women so difficult. She knew very well that it took a lot of expenses for Seina to keep the house running. Inadvertently, she remembered Leon's words... Giving a job to Seina? She wouldn't call it so presumptuously as Leon did. In this way, she was also asking for Seina's favor. But the idea didn't sound so bad now that she thought about it. Mia felt some doubt inwardly... That man was so scheming. What was he planning now by saying such things? No, Mia refused to believe that any idea of the possibility of that. It was too frightening. She shook her head, forcefully throwing aside that disturbing thought, and decided that she would continue to pretend. "Seina..." Mia softly called. She had quite a bit of money. She has been in poverty for a while, and suddenly getting a tremendous amount of money like this made her felt oddly confused about how she should handle it. "How about becoming Aiden's nanny?" "I don't mean anything by this." Mia hurriedly said. "You can continue to look for a job if you want to. During that time, maybe you can be Aiden's nanny. I am worried whenever I leave that kid alone at random times." Mia waited for her answer while smiling encouragingly. Seina was so surprised that her lips parted slightly. She looked at Mia and noticed that she was serious. A hesitation crept into her heart. Mia's offer was like heaven's salvation to her current problem. "I will also offer you satisfactory remuneration," Mia added, thinking that it might be something that was troubling Seina. "You have helped me and Aiden a lot of times. Allow me to do something for you. If you want another job, I will help you seek it." Seina was startled. It wasn't what she was thinking right now. To be honest, this job had come too easily to her. She was about to refuse when she saw Mia's sincere smile and expectant look. Seina faltered. "Auntie Seina..." Aiden suddenly looked up after hearing his name being a topic of the discussion. He looked up with an innocent, exactly carbon copy of Mia's expectant look. "Alright..." Seina finally gave up, accepting Mia's offer. She sighed, knowing that this was Mia's way of repaying her. She didn't want to ask for repayment, but she knew that Mia was the type who dislike it to owe others too much. She was afraid that receiving too much kindness from others would bite her back in the rear someday. Besides, she was also worried for Aiden. In her previous marriage, Seina had wished for a child, but fate said otherwise. "Thank you." Seina smiled sincerely, grabbing Mia's hands. Mia shook her head. "I should be the one thanking you." Mia had tried to learn little by little not to distrust others too much. She had decided to receive Seina's kindness and took the offer of moving in together. Naturally, she had thought of a way to repay Seina. Money wasn't a problem to her right now. But she also didn't want to sound pretentious by offering Seina some money right away. Mia suddenly was startled as a notion occurred to her. She bit her lips. Is this part of Leon's plan? Mia felt anxious as she thought of it. She clenched her hands subconsciously. "Mia?" "Ah, yes?" Mia blinked and turned her attention to Seina. "Here, have a hot chocolate." Seina handed her a cup of chocolate. Mia accepted it. She took a deep breath to calm herself and sipped on the drink. Leon, that guy was like a wandering ghost haunting her everywhere she went. She narrowed her eyes. Getting rid of Leon wouldn't be an easy feat. It was almost impossible unless he was the one to let go. The other choice was to snatch the reins and stood on the same ground as him. Mia didn't like how things were heading right now. She hated to have her life dictated by others this way. It was unpleasant and somewhat disgusting. In the past, she was too young and frantic. Hence, she was unable to handle things more rationally. Now, she had become a lot calmer than before. "Mama, I want to sleep," Aiden told his mother and yawned, turning his head to her with sleepy eyes. "Do want to have a drink of milk first?" Mia offered. Aiden pouted and shook his head, offering his hands up asking to be carried. Seina's chuckled at the child's antics, causing Aiden to turn his head and glared at her in embarrassment for teasing him. Mia lifted Aiden's small body and carried him to the bedroom. He made a face at Seina with a smug smile, then yawned again. He closed his eyes. It took Mia a minute later to arrive in the bedroom. She put down the already sleeping Aiden carefully on the bed, then she pulled a blanket and covered his body. Aiden opened his eyes sleepily as he gazed at Mia, then dragged a long pillow. He hugged the pillow and went back to sleep. Mia was stroking his hair and forehead, something that her foster mother often did whenever she couldn't sleep. It always made her sleep more soundly in her childhood, successfully making her fall asleep. Mia's phone vibrated on top of the table near the bed. Frowning, she reached out for it. As soon as she saw Leon's name on the screen, she had a foreboding. What do that devil's incarnate wants? Mia wondered as she opened his message. She read the content carefully. A moment later, she felt so incredulous that she couldn't help but want to fling the phone across the room.
