Chapter 26

2015 Words
Amethyst's POV "What was that back there?" Ady asked with furrowed brows. I didn't answer him. Ady and I are currently inside his car. We left the Shaw residence not too long ago. "Amethyst" he said. Ady sounded impatient. Then, he pulled over the car to the side. "Is Devon Shaw really your boyfriend?" he said eyeing me. "No" I denied snapping my head to look at him. Ady and I looked at each other with furrowed brows as if we were challenging one another. In the end, Ady sighed in defeat. "Then, what was that about, Amy? Why did he say that?" he asked carefully. I shrugged. "Because he's a fcking psychopath that's why" I said with a frown. "So you've never met him before?" he asked. I pursed my lips. Of course I've met him before. Not once or twice but multiple times. And on top of that, we did more than just meet. "I'm guessing you have?" he said. I sighed and nodded. "How?" he asked curiously. I tried to think about it. At the masquerade ball? No, I don't think so. I think I met him even before that. I thought about it hard. Then, I finally remembered it. "I think it was the dinner with miss Katrina and Ara" I said. He's the same guy that I accidentally bumped into after I went to the bathroom. Ady' s brow furrowed in confusion. "How did you meet him there?" he said. "I accidentally bumped into him when I was on the phone with you. That's about it" I said. "And he's claiming you're his girlfriend why?" he said. I huffed. "Like I said, I don't know why, Ady. We coincidentally met a couple of times after that and he also went to my office. But that's that" I said. Okay, maybe I kept the last important detail a secret. But how am I supposed to tell my brother that I had a one night stand with that guy? It's not like I expected it to happen. I'd rather not tell him. After that, Ady and I continued to drive back to our parents' house. When we arrived, Ara was napping. Instead of sitting around waiting for Ara to wake up, I grabbed my sketchbook from my luggage and went out to the garden. Our parents are out and I don't think they're going home anytime soon. The next time I'll see them is probably the day after tomorrow for the engagement party. I started to sketch. I alway start making my new collection for the next fashion show after finishing fashion week. It takes a lot of time for me to settle for the designs that I want. I have high standards for my designs. I wanted my design to be captivating even to myself. After a while of sketching, my phone rang. I answered it when I saw that it was Celine. "Hey, babe!" "Hey. What's up?" I asked her. "Nothing much. How about you? What are you up to?" "Sketching" I said. "Don't tell me that you're working on your new collection already?" "I am" I told her. "Already? The fashion week literally just ended, Amy. Are you serious?" "You know how I am. I don't rush my designs. I take as much time as I want and make everything myself" I stated. "I know but still. You should atleast take a good break for like a week or something" "What am I supposed to do in a week? Stay in my apartment? Lock myself in my room?" I said chuckling. "No, of course not. You and Ara can go out. Maybe you guys can even travel or something. Anything but just staying at home" "You do realize that Ara is pregnant, right? She has a living human being inside of her that's growing day by day. A living being who is dependent on her" I said. "Your point is?" I slightly chuckled. "I can't just take Ara anywhere. We're very cautious with her pregnancy. Her belly is growing and that means she's carrying the baby's weight as well. I take her out every now and then but I wouldn't want to strain her and cause harm to the baby" I explained. "Oh please. Ara would be delighted to be on a vacation. Just say it, Amy. You're just a workaholic and you dislike going out. You're the problem. You introverted extrovert you" I chuckled. "Well, that too. We both know I'm not the most adventurous type of person" I admitted. It's true. "Uhuh. I'm surprised you even agree to going to different places with Ara without being dragged to that place. Being a dedicated older sister has changed you" Celine and I laughed. "I'm actually serious though. You deserve some rest, Amy. You did a really good job balancing work along with the situation with Ara. You did an amazing job as a designer and a big sister. The least you can do for yourself is have a vacation without thinking of work wherever you go" I sighed. "I'll think about it" I said. I most likely won't. Not because I don't want to but because I can't. Our parents will keep me in check until the day of the actual wedding. I won't be able to go anywhere for a vacation any time soon. "You better. Anyways, I need to go. I have an appointment soon. I'll call you again later when I can, okay? Probably after my appointment" "Sure. I'll wait for your call" I said. "Sounds good. Bye, babe" "Bye" I said. Then, we ended the call. I continued sketching and focused on visualizing the details of my draft. I wasn't sure what theme I'd be going for the next collection so I listed a few that I wanted to do. "Amy?" I turned to look and saw Amy coming out of the mansion. She was still rubbing her eyes as she made her way towards me. "Hey" I greeted softly. "Did you just get back?" she asked as she sat down the chair beside me. I shook my head. "I've been here for a while" I told her. "How did the meet up go?" she asked curiously. "It was fine" I lied. It's not really fine. It was a mess. I met the guy that I had a one night stand with and he turned out to be the guy I'm supposed to marry. That same guy straight up carried me on his back in the most barbaric way possible in front of both our parents. Not only that. He lied about his relationship with me and introduced me as his girlfriend. So, no it wasn't fine. But still, I'll say that it is so Ara doesn't have to worry or feel guilty. "How was the guy?" Ara asked carefully. He's the worst. "He's okay" I said with a shrug. "Really?" Ara asked. I nodded. "Do you like him?" she asked. "Obviously not. But I dislike most guys so it's nothing new" I simply said. Although, I specially dislike this one. "That's true" Ara said nodding in agreement. "Do you want anything to eat?" I asked her to change the subject. Ara's face lit up as she nodded. "Can I have cookies?" she asked batting her lashes. I chuckled and nodded. "Let's go inside" I told her. She nodded excitedly and clung onto my arms as we made our way inside. Ara and I went to the kitchen and I asked the kitchen helpers to rest because I didn't want too many people around me when I do something. Ara sat on the kitchen stool as she watched me. I found the ingredients and utensils myself and started making the cookies for Ara. "Amy" Ara called me with a wide smile. I answered her with a hum. "Are you considering having kids in the future?" she asked carefully. I coughed. "No" I answered. "Why not?" she asked innocently. "I just don't want to" I simply said. "Why?" she asked again. I sighed. "I'm not good with children, Ara" I simply explained. "You don't know that" she said. "Oh believe me, I think I do" I said. Ara pouted. I just chuckled and continued making cookies. "You're cooking" Ady came in. He was still wearing his suit. "Where were you?" I asked as I took out a fresh batch of cookies from the oven. "I had to go back to the office for a while. I didn't bother you earlier because you were on the phone with someone" he explained. I nodded and started to serve the cookies in a plate. Ady sat down beside Ara. Then, I made a glass of milk for Ara to drink and gave it to her. "Where's mine?" Ady asked with a pout. "You're not pregnant, are you?" I said raising a brow at him. The milk was specially for pregnant women. I asked someone to buy stuff for Ara the moment we got here since I knew our parents wouldn't do something so considerate for their pregnant daughter. Ara giggled seeing Ady. We ate cookies together and talked about our childhood. Then, the 3 of us also had dinner together. Our parents we're still out and we didn't bother to wait for them. It was a family routine for us. After that, I washed up first since I was still wearing the same dress I wore earlier. I decided to stay in the tub for a while to clear my mind. The day after tomorrow, I'll be officially engaged. I'm sure it won't take long for the wedding to take place. That's just how it goes. The mere thought of it, haunts me. But I already have a plan. I'll only be married to Devon Shaw by paper. Nothing else will take place between us except an arrangement. I'm sure that someone like him wouldn't get married to settle down. It was only for formality sake. Guys like him are once who'd goof around every chance that they get. Once he does goof around, I'll collect every opportunity that I get to gather reasons for a divorce. As soon as I've gathered enough dirt on him, I'll demand for a divorce. I'm sure that we'll both be pleased for that. By then, Ara would've already given birth. Ara and I will stay in New York for good and we'll never return here. We'll raise her child together and I'll provide for the both of them for as long as I have to. I'll continue work as usual and that's that. I think it's a pretty efficient plan. It's beneficial for everyone. I slightly smiled. That's the plan. After a while, I got out of the tub and rinsed myself. I wrapped myself in a robe when my phone suddenly rang. I answered it without looking at the caller ID expecting it to be Celine since she said she'd call. "Hey, babe. Is your appointment done?" I greeted. I was in a better mood now. My brows furrowed when no one answered. I looked at the caller ID and was surprised to see that it was an unregistered number. I whispered a cuss. "Hello? Who is this?" I asked. Whoever it was called my personal number. Only a few people knew my personal number so I didn't expect anyone else to call me except Celine. "It's your fiancé" I gulped. It's Shaw and he sounded pissed. "Where did you get my number?" I asked with furrowed brows. "I think the right question is who the hell did you think was calling and why are you calling that person 'babe'?" I bit my lower lip. "It's none of your business. Why did you call?" I said ignoring his accusing tone. "Amethyst Wright" There was a warning in his voice. I rolled my eyes. Like that can scare me. "I'm tired. Goodbye, Shaw" I said and ended the call immediately. Then, I blocked his number. I massaged my temple in frustration. How in the world did he get my personal number?
