Chapter 17 Ryan Walker

After finishing breakfast i helped Alexis with the dishes.
I didn't want to say anything but i was a bit bothered by her working at the hotel, mainly because the hotel was owned by my family and run by my older brother; but it wasn't that what bothered me, it was the fact that i had not mentioned that detail to her, my background was still a secret to her.
i always knew she was hired to work at the hotel, but i thought i had enough time to sit and talk with her. i guess now i will have that talk with her before she finds out by someone else, the sooner the better.
i finished the dishes and head to Ben's bedroom where Alexis was giving Ben a bath.
"Alexis" i said knocking on the bathroom door "do you think we can go out to dinner later this evening"
"huh" she replied "sorry you caught me off guard; dinner I thought we were going to keep our relationship on the down low until we were sure of what we wanted" added
"and we will' i assured her "we are going to have dinner at my place, i have been wanting to take you there for quite some time and I think now its the time".
she stopped drying Ben and looked in my direction.
"your place" she stammered
I laughed "of course my place, i am a great cook" i said
"ok" she said "i will ask around for a sitter to look after Ben.
she looked at me suspiciously "are you sure" she asked
"Yes babe" i replied "i am sure and you don't need to look for a baby sitter, Ben is welcome to come along."
"ok thank you" she answered "what time would you like us to be ready"
i took a look at my watch, it was after ten o clock in the morning.
"I will come by at six in the evening to get your guys' i answered
i lean in and gave her a kiss before walking out of Ben's room and into the living room.
i sat on the couch and checked my emails and messages, after all i am a doctor.
my emails were still the same but i had several messages from my assistant asking me to call her back and one message from my mother reminding me that my fathers birthday was two months away and they had not seen me for weeks.
I dialed Martha to find out what was going on, she answered at the first ring the phone gave.
"hello" she answered "Dr. Walker thank goodness, "i tried calling your work phone but nothing so i had to message your personal, I am sorry but we have an emergency at the hospital" she continued "Jennifer noble had her baby an hour ago and they were some complication, Doctor Charles delivered the baby and everything went well in the end but he requested your presence, he wants you to examine the baby. he thinks he might have a heart condition".
Jennifer Noble and her husband are a close family friend so i have a duty to her and her baby.
"Martha" i said "i am on my way, please let the Doctor know that i am twenty minutes away and will be there as soon as i can.
i got my stuff and left Alexis house as fast as i could, i felt bad for not letting her know but this matter was a serious emergency and required me to leave asap. i hope she will not read in to it and will forgive me, i will give her a call once I made sure the baby was ok!
i drove as fast as i could breaking every driving law in Canmore, luckily as a doctor we are allowed to go at a certain speed when in an emergency.
