“Cut!” The director shouted to the two actors, “Good take. See you in an hour,” The movie shoot will resume after a short one-hour break while the crew prepares for the next scene. They had been shooting the same scene since 10 in the evening and it is almost daylight.
Sadie, the lead actress of the movie “The Stalker” nodded her head and walked past her co-actor. Her hands felt clammy and her heartbeat felt erratic. She wanted to go back to her Van and rest until she was called.
When she arrived at her trailer van, her cousin and best friend, Harley dropped the book she was reading and ran towards Sadie.
“Why do you look so pale? Do you need anything?” she asked in a worried voice.
“I’m just tired from all the running, I guess.” Sadie washed her face on the camper van’s sink and asked for the medicine kit to treat her wounded knee.
“Here, drink this to help you calm down.” Harley reached out to one of the van’s compartments and pulled out a sparkling water and handed it to Sadie. Then she, took the medicine kit from her and applied antiseptic, “I’ll put some band aid here.”
“Thanks. I’ll take a short nap. Please wake me up when I’m needed.”
“Sweet dreams.”
Sadie laid down the bunk bed and pulled the covers to her chest. She closed her eyes wishing that her cousin’s wish would come true. It had been a long while since she had a peaceful dream or dreamed at all. Almost immediately after shutting her eyelids, she felt that same fear she had while in the shoot.
Sadie saw Harley holding a red envelope. She took the envelope and asked Harley to leave. She walked back and forth inside her room, pondering whether to open the envelope or throw it away. She knew what lies inside and she feared it’s contents each and every time. She opened it. Sure enough, a small cellphone was inside. She pressed the power button and opened the only message saved on the phone. It was another link to a video and picture that can only be viewed once.
She gasped and covered her mouth when she realized what she was seeing. It was a video taken that evening. She was running with her bare feet, she could clearly see her expressions as it zoomed on her face. The next scene was at the alley where she was cornered. The next scene was a new one and what frightened her the most. It was a video of herself holding the cellphone as if the footage was being filmed live! Sadie screamed, dropped the phone and looked at her surroundings as if wanting to find her stalker looming in the shadows.
“Sadie!” she was woken up by Harley’s voice. She stared at her cousin’s worried angelic face and she started to calm down.
“Bad dream again?” Harley asked in a concerned voice.
“Yes. Same one. Did they call me yet?” She tried to avoid the topic as she knew it would just upset both of them.
“No. It’s only been ten minutes. Do you want some snacks?”
“Yes, please what do we have?” Sadie was not in the mood for food but she appreciated her cousin’s effort in trying to cheer her up.
“Our stocks ran out since we’ve been here for a week now, but I’ll go check with the other van. Stay here for a while.”
Sadie nodded her head at Harley. She closed her eyes and faced the van’s wall when she heard the door shut. She imagined herself running freely on a grassy meadow filled with purple flowers. She felt happy while wandering from one flowerbed to another, smelling the flowers and humming a song.
A few minutes later, the door opened but she was too lazy to open her eyes. She knew who it was the moment she felt someone caressed her hair and pulled the sheets closer to her chin. She welcomed the warm back embrace and snuggled closer. She pulled the hands hugging her and kissed his big and smooth palm.
“Good morning, Baby. How was your shoot?”
“It was exhausting. I had to run a few times. I even fell and tripped for real and the director included that in the shoot.”
She gently shifted to face her long time boyfriend of six years, Mason. He smiled his cute gummy smile the moment she opened her eyes. She stared at him for a few seconds more, loving the sight of his pointed nose, perfectly arched eyebrows, long curled eyelashes on his blue orbs with almond shaped eyes, small smooth face with a prominent jaw line and pouty red lips. sighed and gave him a quick peck on the lips. She didn’t realize how much she missed staring at his handsome face the whole time she was shooting. Now that she’s in his arms, she felt more secured.
Mason pulled her closer and ended up on top of him, she rested her cheeks on his chest, listening to his rapid heartbeat. She sniffed his shirt and smiled. He’s wearing the perfume that she gave him.
“I heard you’ll be shooting again soon. You still have thirty minutes to sleep. Harley handed me the snacks if you want to eat anything,” Mason said as he caressed her back.
“No. This is nice. I feel relaxed now that you’re here.”
“Glad to hear that, Baby. I missed you but you have to close your eyes, I’ll wake you up when they call you.”
“Okay, but first, I need to do something.”
“What is...” He didn’t had the chance to continue his sentence as Sadie, tilted her head and feasted on his lips. He moaned as she deepened the kiss, biting and nipping at his lips as her tongue explored with his. They’ve been apart for a month since the movie shooting started since he was busy with his post graduate studies.
The kiss lasted for a couple of minutes and invigorated both of their senses.
“Now you only have fifteen minutes to sleep.”
“That’s enough, as long as you’re here to bring me energy.”
He kissed her forehead then caressed her hair as she leaned back on his chest, savoring his scent.
Sadie closed her eyes and finally allowed herself to drift again in dreamland. This time, with Mason with her, another nightmare awaits.
