ADRIAN
“We never really talked about ourselves…you know…got to know each other.” I started, as we walked hand in hand, down the path that led to the lake. It was well into the evening, and from where we were, could see that the moon had cast a pretty glow over the lake, coupled with the low lights that lined the area. I had bought the property, with the lake being one of my main reasons. Even if I didn’t see it often, it was a satisfaction knowing it was there. And never had I brought a woman down there. Not even Mila. I hadn’t even thought of it once.
Cara didn’t answer immediately, taking her time instead, and I let her. After all, with the circumstances with which we had met, it was even surprising we were now in the position we were. “I could say I know a lot about you, Adrian Nikalaou.” She said, looking straight ahead. “You are always gracing the news, every other day.” Her tone was a little bit humorous, making me roll my eyes, thankful she couldn’t see me.
“Don’t tell me you are among those that believe everything you see in the newspaper, Cara. You know the media is just…the media. Anything for clout.” I mused as memories poured through my mind. She was right though, I did grace the front pages every other day. Especially on that damn magazine of Gabriel’s.
Cara shrugged. “Not if there is evidence. I mean…your conquests are always very eager to speak.” She retorted, starting to sound a little bit more serious.
It irked me to my bones that she would believe the lies that those women told against me, and I wasn’t even sure why. Was it because I was beginning to like her?
“Those are just women who would do anything to squeeze money out of me, and also get their fifteen minutes of fame. Surely you should be used to the ways of the media by now. People, magazines, would always want to look for a way to make money out of people like me.” I couldn’t understand my need to explain myself to Cara, but I knew I needed to. If anything, I needed closure. At least there had to be someone who believed in me other than my family.
Cara shrugged as we walked over to the railing that separated us from the lake.
“If you say so…” she didn’t sound convinced, making me irritated.
Not wanting the matter to stretch longer, I changed the topic. “How about you?” I asked, turning to face her, with my hand still holding hers. The reflection of the lake cast a perfect glow on her milky skin, giving it an icy appearance. She reminded me of a certain clip of a musician, clad in mermaid’s attire, coming out of the water. Only, Cara didn’t need a costume, she was so beautiful on her own. I couldn’t help raising my other hand to her hair. “Tell me about yourself. What do you do for a living?” I asked, testing the soft strands of her hair in my fingers. “I’ve seen writing on your laptop a couple of times…”
CARA
I smiled nervously, licking my suddenly dry lips as I thought of an answer to give to Adrian. I was sure if he looked closely, he would see how hard my heart was slamming against my chest. “I uhh…” hell, what was I going to tell him? There was no way he could know I worked in the damn media. Especially when he had just spent the last ten minutes slamming us for telling lies against him. Lord... that I had had a hand in writing.....
Not that I had thought it was a lie.. but who could tell now? “For now, I don’t exactly have a job. But, I have been working on a few things…” I answered, trailing off and hoping he wasn’t going to ask further questions.
“I see…” Adrian said lowly and turned away from me, giving me a view of his side profile.
For the first time, I noticed how sharp his features were. From the sharp jawline, to his very pointed nose, and his eyes that were dark from the night light. The man was too handsome for his own good.
I couldn’t help but wonder if he was telling the truth about the women. Although I had to admit that it wasn’t going to be the first time a woman had lied against a rich man to the media, about the exact things Adrian talked about. The thought made my mind wonder about the day I had met Mila in my boss’s office. What the tea was about those two was something I was always going to wonder about. Had Mila been lying all that time? And also having an affair with Gabriel? Or had they hooked up after the whole Nikalaou saga?
Just thinking about it brought headaches.
And there I was…about to dig him up and dissect him like a piece of meat, just to get my job back. Elena had been so f*****g right! I should never have involved myself in such a big mess. Now how to get out of it…
“We should go inside.” Adrian suddenly spoke, leaning away from the railing and gesturing in the direction we came from, towards the house.
Letting a small smile grace my lips, I nodded. “Sure.” And turned to follow him. His hands felt so warm against mine. “It’s so beautiful out here, Adrian. You have a beautiful house.” Was all I could muster, before the temperature around us seemed to drop drastically. It felt like the moment the words left my lips, something changed in the air. It could be the feel of him against me, and the way we brushed against each other now and then as we walked, but something did change because my voice had sounded more breathy than it should have.
Nothing prepared me for Adrian’s sudden halt, and nothing prepared me also for the swift way with which he turned me around so I was pressed against him, facing him with our lips just inches away from each other’s. “I’m sorry, but I can’t help it…” was what he said before taking my lips in his. And boy was he welcome. All thoughts and previous questions flew away from my mind the moment his lips met mine.
Once he touched me, I felt like all my problems disappeared, and it was only him…just him… and I showed him exactly that by lifting my hands up and wrapping them around his neck, pulling him closer, breathing him in. Adrian groaned against my mouth, pushing my lips open with his tongue so he could taste me better.
I obliged without hesitation. His kisses were everything to me. Every f*****g thing.
Good heaven’s gracious! The man could kiss a woman to orgasm.
