Chapter Twelve

1002 Words
ADRIAN I shut the door with my legs and proceeded to deposit cara gently on the bed. All the while, I had my heart I'm my mouth as I thought of an explanation to give to her about what had just happened out there. "Can you explain to me what the hell is going on?" she hissed, looking at me angrily as she gestured towards the the door. Her voice was definitely not a whisper, and the last thing I wanted was my very nosy mother to hear us. I rolled my eyes. "Can you at least keep your voice down while I explain?" I asked, eying her, and dreading her reaction at the same time. She narrowed her very beautiful eyes at me. "Okay, I'm listening." she prompted, waiting for me to explain. I sighed, tho king of words I could use to describe the situation to her. I hadn't expected my mother to show up. And I hadn't expected her to show up woth Evangeline either. What had she been playing at! "Listen, my ma has been insisting I get married and settle down for a while now. The last lawsuit I had was definitely the last straw for her, and she decided to take matters into her hands by bringing along, someone who she thought was a suitable match for me." I explained. "And that was the woman you saw there." Cara looked at me with an expressionless fave before she burst out laughing. I frowned, leaning back to examine her. Was she okay? That was definitely not the reaction I had been expecting. I waited for the laughter to die down a little before continuing my explanation. "I just panicked when she saw you in the house. I knew she was going to assume that I had brought a fling home, so I did my best to salvage the situation a little." it wasn't entirely the truth...but it had to suffice. I mean, I couldn't exactly tell her that my head was filled with ideas after the little stunt my mother had pulled earlier. Mum has believed me. The media would. My investors would. The problem was, how to get Cara Ellison to act the part as my Mistress. On paper only... But as I raked my eyes over her, and got the reaction from my lower body, I knew it was going to be hard to leave it to just the papers. Damn. She eyed me, suddenly looking serious...and mad. "You thought to salvage the situation by telling your family that I was your girlfriend?" she asked, fuming now. "How do you think that's going to solve the problem. It was better she thought I was a fling and just forgot about me. Now she thinks I'm your girlfriend, and I'm very sure she's going to have a lot of questions for you and I." I look of worry covered her face. "Oh, Adrian, what have you done?" I placed my hands on her shoulder in a bid to calm her down. "Listen, it's only going to be for a while, and she's out of here." I lied. She wasn't taking my suggestion well, and I was afraid I may very well be getting an earful when I brought the actual suggestion. "Adrian Nikalauo!" my mother yelled from outside the room. Oh f**k! I walked down the stairs to see my mum still standing. I didn't need anyone to tell me that she was completely pissed at me. "I'm sorry, Ma. I'm sorry for not telling you about Cara." The words felt like dry sand in my mouth, but what was done was done, and I couldn't take it back. And I didn't want to, especially with Evangeline looking at me like I had slapped her accross the cheek. Her eyes were blazing, and knowing her, I was quite shocked that she hadn't said a word to me since she saw Cara on the landing. My mother narrowed her eyes at me, and sighed finally. "We should be on out way now. There is no point staying back. You have a guest and you should attend to her." She smiled and came to give me a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek. I opened my mouth to protest and ask her to stay for lunch, but Theo beat me to it. "I guess you could go out to lunch with I and Leander then?" He asked, winking at me from where he stood, behind Evangeline. My mother's face lit up in excitement as she clapped her hand. "Of course I will." She said, and in a few minutes, they were out the door. I could still feel the coldness in the hug Evangeline gave me, before she left. I could understand my mother insisting that I get married and wanting a woman who she thought was suitable for me. Hence, Evangeline. But what I didn't understand was why she bothered to play along with my mother's antics, knowing that it was impossible. I had made it clear to her a thousand and one times, that I wasn't interested in her, ever since we were in college. She had backed off, only when I moved out of the country. I shook my head, and fished out my phone. A text had come in, from Leander. 'You owe us one, idiot.' I chuckled at the message. Of course I did. Withouth them here, u would probably be in an awkward position. I was about replying when another text came in. 'And your Cara is so f*****g hot!' I frowned then, suddenly feeling jealousy cut through me. What he said wasn't a lie. But the statement didn't sit well with me. I blinked, frowning as I sent one emoji to him as a reply, trying to shake the jealousy off my mind. But as I went back upstairs, I couldn't help but think about it. Was I really jealous of my brother calling Cara hot? But she was....
