“You look like shit.” Before he had a chance to respond, she turned back to face the whiteboard as Mr. McGillicuddy went over differential equations. “Thanks, Kathy. You’re always really supportive,” replied Joshua as he smirked. He couldn’t help but wonder why she liked him, but she did. Red-haired, pale with freckles, she had long lashes that circled clear, bright blue eyes. Barely five feet high, Kathy’s nickname, “Firecracker” fit her personality. Joshua knew from the first moment they started high school together that she was someone he could confide in and after a failed attempt on being girlfriend-boyfriend, they stopped pretending sometime between their sophomore and junior year. Despite hinting he was gay, she still flirted with him even though they both knew it would go nowhere.
