Chapter Six
Jasira Sanders POV
°°°
I hold on to Justin's hand as he starts to shake, looking around all the people staring at us like they have already deemed us to be guilty of the crimes.
On the other side of the room, I have Karen and Felicia along with my father, who are glaring at us. Why do they hate us?
What have we done to them?
I don't try to thing about how f****d up my family is. Instead, I try to stand straight and be strong, this is important for us. Justin and I should face it with confidence because lies don't always win with truth. No matter how bad Karen wants to call us murderers, her lies will not be heard.
And I'm hoping that Bertha's words will be convincing enough for the rival alpha to deem us as not guilty.
Just as I think about the alpha, the whole crowd goes hush
I'm afraid that everyone is holding their breaths just like I am.
When I turned around, I saw him.
Adrian Crestwood, who walks in first.
There's something about this alpha which is terrifying. But it's the way, he can instill fire in you, leave you intrigued. He is tall and looks larger than life, he has a cut around his jawline that just intensifies his features. His dark brown eyes don't blink, he walks like the mighty ruler. And his features make him stand out with his sharp jawline, broad shoulders. I didn't see his mate with him today.
I look away, not wanting to find myself caught staring at the alpha who has held us captive. Because the last thing I want is to be called names for looking at someone else's mate.
As Adrian takes his seat, his brothers Leonardo and Oliver walk in. All the three brothers have almost the same features yet they stand out unique.
Leonardo smiles at the people in our pack like they haven't just invaded us and held us under their mercy. There's a mockery in his smile and arrogance.
And Oliver,…
I make the mistake of looking at him, and he stares at me back. He doesn't try to look away as he stops at his step to look at me.
Similarly to the night we met, his eyes look radiant, hungry and so cruel. I look down, not wanting to enrage the alpha.
The Crestwood Brothers are nightmares, and I don't have any reason to say that I don't believe the wild theories surrounding us.
“We don't have too much time. We have our accused.
Steven, if you can prove your daughter and son guilty of the murder and rape, this ends now.
And speaking of guilt,…" Leonardo addresses the group, there's a commanding nature in his voice.
He's the initiator, the speaker. Adrian looks reserved, Oliver looks wild, and it's Leonardo who looks like the people's alpha.
And he turns towards my direction. Leonardo has the mix of brownish and golden eyes that when he looks down on me, I have the urge to stare back.
Taking a step forward in my direction, he motions his guards to step aside, and they comply without a word.
“This is your chance to clear your name, Sanders.
Speak your truth, if we catch you in a lie it will not end well for you." He speaks out a clear-cut warning in his tone.
And I nod, swallowing the nervousness.
Dropping Justin's hand, I take a step forward.
“With your due permission, alpha.” I start to speak, bowing my head in front of Alpha Adrian.
“I hereby plead non-guilty on my behalf and on my brother's behalf.
And I'm also here to let you know that I'm aware of the people behind this heinous act.” I speak out, not caring about how the entire pack just gasped.
Like they had expected me to nod at all their accusations and surrender on my free will. And are they really believe that my innocent brother will harm a girl? He's afraid of flies, for heaven's sake.
“Really? Who do you think the actual culprits are, Sanders? This is precisely what we are lookingfor.
For the real culprits to serve their punishment. Because in our pack, we don't tolerate harassment and abuse towards kids. This should be a lesson to all those predators out there.
If they think they can get away by hurting our pack children, we are Going to prove them wrong.
We are going to hunt them down to show them the karma of their sins.
So tell us, Sanders. Tell us, who are they?” Leonardo questions as he starts to walk towards me.
Each of his words comes out with aggression and a fierceness.
“Gavin, my step-sister Felicia's mate and his group of friends.” I answer, confidently.
Because I'm speaking the truth, unlike all the liars in the room.
“She's lying. She is a liar and will always be. She just wants to protect her brother. This isn't the first time this is happening. They are trouble, and I'm going through punish them right away.
I, the Luna of the Silver Moon pack, forbid her from speaking and banish her…" Karen screams out.
And Felicia nods as my father remains quiet.
But a loud, powerful voice erupts.
“You are no longer the Luna, as Silver Moon Pack is now in history.”
Oliver Crestwood.
His words come out hoarse, a gruffness to his tone, like he hadn't uttered a word in days.
“I can prove my words. I have a witness.” I speak out and Oliver's angry eyes meet mine.
Not only that, but I swallow the lump in my throat, unsure if I just interrupted the alpha.
But he nods at me, it's the gentlest thing he has done.
And I asked the guards to call out for Bertha.
Within a few minutes, the guards bring Bertha to the alpha's chambers. I hadn't seen her after the last conversation we had.
And I hold on to my head, knowing the truth will clear the air.
Instead of going rogue, we can seek shelter in other packs or at least find a way to live a life away from here.
“This is Bertha, an omega in our silver moon pack. She can prove my words and will speak the truth with your permission.” I introduce Bertha to the alpha Adrian, who is the judge of this all.
And Leonardo looks like the master of this trial.
Oliver,. The executor of it.
“Speak.” Leonardo orders as he notices Bertha standing quietly with her head held down.
“Say the truth, Bertha. Just because they can scream the words out loud, their lies can never turn to truth.” I insist, not knowing if she's nervous to be standing in front of the alphas.
“I stand by my Luna's words. Jasira Sanders and Justin Sanders are guilty in my eyes as well.” Her voice comes out soft…
And my heart erupts, a wide range of emotions dwelling inside that I'm not sure what to do. I feel weak and my knees shake.
I feel the shiver that passes through my bones.
And I find no words in return.
“You heard the truth from her witness as well. You have enough proof now to banish them or do as you please, alpha.
But as promised, we are expecting you to give a hard end punishment so that this never happens again in the future.” Karen speaks out, a small smirk on her lips like she won this.
I stand bewildered. I hear Justin's rambling as he tries to push the guard who's holding him to get to me.
And I feel like the world around me is bouncing in a weird way that makes me feel stuck. I am uncertain if I'm breathing, I hear Justin's voice screaming out my name.
But I have nothing to say to him.
“What do you have to say now, Sanders? Your witness just stabbed you in the back. You should have prepared better.” Leonardo questions as he stands in front of me.
I stay quiet, feeling like the world is swallowing us in.
“Your silence will cost you more, Sanders. Come on now, are you trying to hide something from us?” Leonardo asks as he brings his hand to lift my jaw.
“We are innocent.” I breathe out the words!
And before I know it, my body collapses…
Even in the back of my head.
I whisper the words like this is my only chance to speak. How could Karen be so cruel that she's trying to save a murderer and risk our lives instead..
“We are innocent.”
As I fall against Leonardo, who holds me in his strong arms. I feel the way he lets out a soft growl before everything goes black.
