Chapter 7Much to Lloyd’s surprise, the date turned out better than he thought it would. At the restaurant, Junior maintained a running commentary that livened things up, and for once Lloyd wasn’t left holding the bill at the end of the night. Having Junior nearby clearly distracted Doug from dwelling on who might be looking at them, or who might be thinking what, or whatever it was that spooked him when it was just the two of them together. Hell, Lloyd almost felt as if they were already a happy little family, how strange was that?
Maybe not so strange after all, Lloyd mused, watching father and son eat. For someone who hadn’t been in a relationship for quite some time, he found himself easing into this one.
