Seeing Abby walk in alone, the reporters rushed forward and began to ask all kinds of questions.
Abby's thin form was surrounded by them; she could feel her body pushed back and forth. Her head was dizzy, and she felt like they were about to eat her alive.
In this chaos, someone's video camera hit Abby's head. The sharp edge of the machine scraped her forehead, and blood immediately flew out.
It streamed down and got into her eyes, blurring her vision. She had to close her eyes for a moment before opening them again.
The reporter pretended he didn't see it. He thrusted his mic in her face, and asked: "Miss Sunny, rumor has it that Mr Lewis had a finacee four years ago, but you got between them and broke their engagement. Is that true?"
There were murmurs of shock among the reporters. No wonder she and Jason were never seen together in public. The reporters had assumed that it was because their marriage was a business decision, and there was no love between them. But now it seemed like there was something more behind this.
Abby Sunny, a home wrecker? Who would have thought!
Abby raised her hand to wipe off the blood on her forehead. Then she smiled at the camera. It was a beautiful smile, her lips pulling up in a charming angle, and her dimples showing. But her eyes were cold and emotionless.
Reporters interpreted this as yes. She didn't defend herself, because it was true; she smiled, because she got what she wanted, and didn't care if anyone was hurt in the process. In short, she was one shameless, heartless slut.
Just as they were about to ask further, Abby abruptly dropped on her knees. She kneeled there with her back straightened up, as if nothing, not her father's conviction, not her cancer, not all the insults she was inflicted upon, not Jason Lewis, could ever crush her.
The reporters were stunned, and then exclaims of shock broke out among them. Abby Sunny kneeled in front of the camera!
All sorts of headlines appeared on the internet, all news channels and socia media.
ABBY SUNNY KNELT DOWN, APLOGIZING FOR BEING A HOME WRECKER
ABBY SUNNY KNELT IN REPENTANCE FOR HER FATHER'S MURDER
ABBY SUNNY KNELT TO JASON LEWIS'S FIANCEE
……
Abby seemed oblivious to the reporters snapping away.
"Miss Sunny, now that Sunny Group is facing bankruptcy, will Mr Lewis divorce you?" Another reporter asked.
Everyone zoomed the camera in, trying to catch every tiny expression on her face, but they got nothing. There was no expression on her face.
Her eyes were dull, and it hit her harder than ever, that she was alone. Terribly alone. Although she had a husband, a father, and a company, although there were noises all around her, she couldn't help feeling alone.
The dark clouds got heavier and heavier, threatening to collaspe at any minute. A few thunders struck, and large drops of rain began to fall. It fell on the tip of her nose, and on her eyelashes, fluttering them.
The reporters put away their cameras and scattered, finding for places to shelter from the rain. Only Abby was still there, kneeling in the rain.
The rain drenched her clothes, and clouded her visions, leaving her cold. It was so cold, almost freezing, as if it was something from within; even her soul seemed to be trembling from the coldness.
Jason stood not far behind her, watching her kneel there like a puppet. The place was already abandoned when Mike came with bodyguards.
The bodyguards surrounded Abby in a circle to keep the onlookers away.
Mike asked tentatively: "Why is Miss Sunny kneeling in the rain? How long is she gonna kneel there?"
"Not long. Half an hour."
Mike stole a glance at Jason. Looked like it was Jason who made her kneel. He wondered why.
Jason didn't like being disobeyed. Abby would have to kneel for half an hour, solid. Mike gazed at the woman kneeling there, and couldn't help feeling a bit sorry for her.
The family of victims of this incident heard the news and a large crowd of them rushed over, attacking her with the garbage they had prepared.
A ring-pull can was smashed against her forehead, the yellow liquid within streaming down her cheeks along with her blood.
There was a moment's silence before a woman among them yelled.
"Abby
Sunny, your father deserves death! And you're nothing good yourself. Curse your family, you deserve this! Scums!"
"You hole! You have the heart to hook up with men while your father was in jail!"
"They are all scums in that family! Carl Sunny's death would be doing the whole nation a good! The sooner he dies, the better!"
"Smash her, people! Smash this s**t in the face!"
“……”
For a while, all kinds of stuff were thrown in Abby's direction. The bodyguards standing around Abby all got hit, but they didn't move.
All the insults and garbage directed at her were threatening to crush her pride.
The whole world seemed to be spinning around Abby...Her body was trembling from the pain in her head, her stomach, her knees...everything hurt so much.
Her eyes were dull, and her lips blue from the cold. She sniffed a little, but the cold air got straight into her lungs and she bent down from the pain...
Jason frowned, his eyes dark and unfathomable. Mike asked tentatively: "Mr Lewis, do you need me to go help her?"
The rain kept getting heavier. There were puddles everywhere on the ground. Mike felt a cold shiver by merely looking at Abby.
Jason pursed his thin lips and didn't speak. He felt she was crying. Not that he cared; he had never cared about her tears. But this moment, he felt restless, along with a lot of other things he couldn't put his finger on.
He looked at his watch. It was exactly half an hour. He stretched out his hand: "Give me the umbrella."
Mike was a bit taken by surprise. He quickly gave his umbrella to Jason.
Jason walked slowly towards Abby. The raindrops pounded on the umbrella. A few passers-by glanced at him and couldn't seem to take their eyes off again.
Abby didn't realize he was approaching until he was right in front of her, holding the umbrella above both of them. She looked up at him, but her eyes were still distant, as if she was looking at someone else through him.
They just looked at each other, he standing and she kneeling; she hated, bullied, and in a mess, he repected and feared as always.
Water got in Abby's eyes; she couldn't tell if it was rain or tears. She asked in a shaky voice: "Is it time yet?"
Jason nodded: "You can get up now."
Abby didn't move. She wanted to, but didn't find the strength. She was already very weak from being locked up for four days; it was a miracle she was still conscious after kneeling in the rain for half an hour.
Her knees hurt so much from both the coldness and the hard floor, that she couldn't stifle a cough. It was just one cough, but Abby tasted blood in her mouth.
"Jason, how many years have we known each other?"
Jason wondered if water had got into her head, asking such a dumb question: "Six years."
Abby shook her head and whispered: "No, not six years. Sixteen years."
She fell in love in that spring, and became obsessed over him for 16 years.
Their encounter 6 years ago, and this marriage....were all planned by her; planned by her for 10 years!
She saw the beginning, but didn't see the end. That Jason would treat her like trash was something she never expected, unplanned and unforeseen.
