Chapter 1 - Present
The long list of guests...
... all the different types of papers and fabrics on the table...
... the long list of foods, sweets, and cakes to try…
… it all seemed so useless at this point. Yet, Cassandra frankly couldn't believe that it was all over now.
She felt that tears would start to run down her eyes once again soon, so taking a deep breath, she brushed her bangs aside before looking again at each of the things that were still on her table.
They were all part of a more than fresh memory in her mind, while it was also a hard burden for her, who could barely believe how she had caught her fiancé a few days ago in the place they shared…
The man was coming out of their bathroom naked, with only a towel around his body, and… well, all the evidence of his betrayal, all the pieces of clothing were scattered around Cassie's apartment before the familiar figure she knew so well appeared behind him in her birthday suit as well.
The woman, who had always been her friend and was to be one of her bridesmaids at their wedding, kept flirting with him without noticing Cassandra after ignoring the bride’s call a couple of minutes ago.
She had only messaged her right back, saying she couldn’t pick the call at the moment, she was busy with work.
Nevertheless, there she was... talking sweetly in his ear without paying any attention to how Cassandra was witnessing it all.
... they had definitely slept together, and the owner of the place couldn't tell what was the worst among it all...
She didn't know if what hurt the most was the fact that someone she trusted so much had betrayed her... or that the person she loved had turned out to be a completely different kind of guy... or even... If it was due to their terrible truth that they had done it all along in the place that her parents had helped them to buy.
… she wouldn't be surprised if they even laughed about it, laughed at her dumbness for not realizing any of it as they enjoyed each other's company a thousand times…
The apartment was close to the hospital where her fiance worked, so it wasn't strange that he slowly started to spend more time there before the buying proposal showed up.
He would sleep over sometimes when he left late after his shifts, no matter if Cassie was at home or not as the words ‘our place’ became part of their routine... part of their happy couple lifestyle.
… yet, those were the exact same words that broke Cassandra’s heart too as she wondered how many times he had done it before without her even dreaming about it, about something like this…
He had been the one who had asked for her hand out of nowhere without hints, and it was also he who decided they should get married in the upcoming months.
He would always tell her that as soon as it happened the best their life would become as they would belong to each other forever…
Another whole joke as she opened her eyes after trying to relax, calm down her emotions before they blew up, and she reacted without thinking, throwing things around as she said how it was all over between them.
She didn't want to see him ever again, tossing the final blow before she turned around and left… she left the place that belonged to her, even if they always called it as them.
Cassandra didn’t know what she should do after it. She could think straight, her actions were a hot mess, so she turned the car on, heading toward the only other place she felt comfortable at besides her apartment and her parents’ house.
She went straight to her best friend's place.
Cassandra didn't waste a second as soon as she arrived there, she quickly shared her problems with him and two other friends, who were already at his apartment. And, without further ado, another female voice cursed Cassie’s former fiancé and their female friend, who found with him, even though she was supposed to be there too with them originally.
"That b***h! Now I know why she texted me earlier saying she was going to be a little late, even though we had arranged to meet here over an hour ago!"
The woman’s pale face flushed so much that she turned red with her anger.
"Please, don't remind me of it, Evie! I'm still lost in how she could be so fake!!! She even congratulated me once again when she went with me for my dress fitting! Can you believe that?! She told me that we were the perfect match and no one else could make me as happy as he did!"
Quietly, the men only watched over them in silence while another bottle of wine was opened by Evelyn, whom Cassandra would always call Evie, even if they hadn't finished the first one yet.
"She is such a dirty b***h! Fake f*****g b***h! Even her breasts are f*****g fake!!!” Arguments no longer made sense amidst the women's drunken words as Evelyn and Cassie continued to mention her fiance's mistress.
The other woman was also her college friend, and both of them had met on the first day of class, getting significantly closer to each other very soon after it.
Besides, their friendship got stronger when they shared dorms in the following year, earning more shared times between them, always sticking together, even when Cassandra was hanging out with her old friends.
… the deep connection Cassie had thought they had all shared with each other made the pain and anger she now felt hurt even more, like small blades were cutting her soul, opening wounds across her chest…
She would not cry. They would not see one single tear drop from her anymore as she imagined them dropping dead before her
"And, do you know what the worst thing was?!?!?!" In a dramatic pause, Cassie asked Evie and her boyfriend without noticing the missing presence of the apartment owner who had gone to check her place, ensuring everything was locked and that her fiance was kicked out after returning the extra keys he had. "It was how he answered me when I asked him since when they were together. He told me that they started to see each other three years ago!”
And that was the worst thing, as if cheating her once wasn't enough on that horrible day.
"Three FREAKING years! f**k!!! That's as long as our relationship!"
