Anyone but Him!

Chapter 8 - Present Hours before a particular Hybrid man could have strange thoughts… Birds were singing as softly as a subtle background melody, which lulled the young woman that morning, slowly waking Cassandra up before she could feel the weight of the arm around her waist, pulling her close to another body that seemed much larger than her own. She wasn't aware of what was happening yet, caring only about getting away from the sunlight hitting her brown orbs so early, Cassie turned to face someone she never expected to see on her mattress… … Millen hid his own face in the space between her neck and shoulder, pulling Cassandra much closer as he used one of her arms as a pillow while intertwining his legs with hers even more... However, neither of them was still fully conscious of who was that person next to them, they were so close to do something like this that she just couldn't believe it wasn't a strange and unfamiliar touch that made her felt so special and loved. … it shouldn't be all part of a mere dream… Or, at least, she wanted to believe it was. About fifteen minutes had passed since Cassandra woke up, and only then, she became unable to deny who the person covering her body with his own was! A hint of embarrassment and guilt rushed through her entire being as she tried not to think about their actions from the previous night. She didn't want to think about them! It was Millen of all the people! He was like a brother to her, someone so precious that he could never end on her one-night stand list! It was worse than sleeping with her ex by mistake again, and Cassandra had already done it once before to know the feeling. But her best friend… “Oh, God! What a terrible mistake I have made!” The odds of sharing the night with some random guest she met at the party weren't a pleasant one. Yet, it did sound several times better than accepting the upcoming reality… Cassandra closed her eyes once more, taking a deep breath while doing so, imagining in her head that it was all a mere mistake of her eyes, some sort of illusion or bad dream of someone who just got up… it wasn't Millen next to her, it wasn't… It was a silly mistake caused by the familiar shade of brown, almost black hair she saw over her bosom, only that! … nevertheless, deep down in her heart, she knew the actual truth… There were no secrets about who that hair belonged to, and especially when it belonged to someone who was the closest person she had in her life besides her parents. … Truth be told, she merely couldn’t find it in herself to believe that something like that could have actually happened between them… The red pedicure she had recently done that week was the first thing the woman saw before she turned her attention to the leg trapped above hers. She wondered how she could get out of there without dealing with the upcoming embarrassment she would feel in that morning if Millen woke up at that moment. Cassandra tried to quickly think about several ways out without a walk of shame included in them until she suddenly got an idea. A silly one, but which seemed good at that moment, and so, she found herself sliding her toes across the man’s leg. … Wondering whether or not it would wake Millen up, allowing her to pretend she was still asleep while he left the room first instead of her… She knew it would easily work if the person next to her was any other guy… However, the same couldn’t be said about the man next to her. Therefore, holding her great back, Cassandra stopped before movements ended up waking him up. After all, she was more than aware her best friend was the responsible type, who would never do anything like have a one-night stand. Millen was a charming man, who would steal girls’ breath away just by walking into the room, and more than once Cassandra saw it how the ones interested in him tried uselessly to use it to start a relationship with him before. But of course, Millen being Millen, he would always reject right away them, sharing his time only with those who only wanted a good time like him. His Ice Prince nickname was born due to it as their classmates found it a very cold reaction from his, going as far to say he would never find love acting like this. Nevertheless, it was exactly his point, Millen wasn't looking for love, and it was one of the things Cassandra liked the most about her best friend. He would never deceive anyone, always telling anyone the truth about how far things with him could go and it easily let Cassie know very well what kind of reaction he would have when he found the two of them in the midst of that more than embarrassing situation. … He wouldn’t be the ‘let’s just forget about it all’ type for sure… After thinking carefully about what she could do next, Cassandra held her breath before removing herself from his embrace. … The noises that the man made in his sleep startled her from time to time until she was finally able to look back at him on the bed… His naked self at full display as she used the fluffy blankets to hide her own body. Cassandra considered then, whether she could take a quick shower or not before leaving, wishing only to avoid meeting an awake Millen, who would have the same questions in his mind that she had at that very moment… How had they let it happen between them? Personally, Cassie believed she had a great part of the blame for it all, especially when she recalled how she was drinking a lot! Not just a couple of drinks as she was having at the beginning of the party, but instead, bottles in her hands were part of her hazy memories from yesterday when she sat by the pool. She knew very well that her meeting with her ex and his lover had made her lose control, even if then, she had no idea of how uncontrollable it had made her actually behave… The young designer didn’t have any slight memories of when she had met up with her best friend, or how they had returned to what she was more than sure now to be his bedroom there that they had planned together, but again… She didn’t want to remain there to find out if he remembered such details or not. The bottles she saw on the suite’s table told her that she had somehow convinced him to drink with her, adding to her guilt as Millen never liked to drink much, even if he didn’t get drunk easily, he just wasn’t the type who would go beyond two shots if someone like her didn’t push him to. “I’m so sorry.” And that was the reason behind Cassandra’s shy apology when she left after finishing dressing up. Checking once more that she wasn’t forgetting anything before the door was finally closed behind her… Unaware she was actually the one taking something instead. Cassie arrived home almost an hour later, wishing it was all just a mere dream when she lay down in bed again. … Hiding her face under the covers, hoping her wishes were granted as she closed her eyes.
