ELSA'S POV Our eyes clicked and stayed on each other. I felt entrapped in his oceanic, deep blue eyes, and for once, ever since I was brought in here and locked up, I didn't perceive the rusty, metallic scents of blood and sweat from the cell. All I could smell was a perfect mixture of chocolate and vanilla. It was sweet and refreshing, making my mouth water. “Mate! How could this be possible? I just got rejected not long ago, and now I am the mate of another alpha. My life must be some kind of joke to the moon goddess. Maybe she is just passing me around for fun. Why can't I just be normal?” I thought to myself. So many thoughts were running through my head, but my eyes stayed on him. He was largely built with broad shoulders. His hair was scattered, probably from running his hand through it. He looked perfect, and weirdly, I felt different. “But why isn't he saying anything? He is probably thinking about how best to kill me. I mean, who could possibly want me as a mate?” My thoughts kept clashing with one another; nothing was making sense. “Why is she still chained? Unchain her right now!” He commanded in his sweet, sultry, deep voice. His voice knocked me out of the trance, and I could finally breathe. I finally took a look at his face. He looked rough, in the most sexy way. He looked like he hadn't shaved for a few days, but beneath all that was a handsome man. Not handsome in the way every other guy was handsome. He looked dangerously handsome. The guy I assume was the beta immediately rushed to me with the keys and unlocked the chains. After I was released from the chains, he took meticulous steps towards me. Even though my brain screamed at me to run, my legs couldn't move. He got close, breathed in my scent, and growled, “Mate!”. He wrapped his hands around me, and my heartbeat accelerated. I felt tingles where he held me. It kept rising until I could feel the tingly sensation all over my body. He nestled his head in the crook of my neck. But something was different from how he held me. I couldn't figure out the feeling. I raised my head and looked around, and everyone was looking in the opposite direction. They have probably never seen their Alpha act this way before. “Let me take you to your room.” He said in a very calm tone, like he didn't want to scare me. “Tell Mia to prepare fresh towels, clothes, and other stuff she might need and bring them to my room.” His commanding voice bounced off the walls, echoing all around us. “Yes alpha.” One of the guys immediately left to deliver his message. He turned to the beta. “You know what to do.” That was the only thing he said out loud; it seemed they communicated well without having to say anything. The beta also turned and left, leaving us alone. He came close and reached out for me, but I flinched away reflexively. A flash of emotions passed through his eyes, but before I could catch them, they were gone. “It's okay; I won't hurt you. You don't have to be scared. I just thought you might be too tired to walk, so I was going to carry you to the room. But if you really do not want me to do that, then I won't.” His voice was calm, like he was talking to a child. “I... can walk.” I croaked out. "Okay,” he replied. I walked ahead, and he followed. I barely took 10 steps before my legs gave out. Just before I hit the ground, he caught me. “I am carrying you this time; I won't take no for an answer,” he stated firmly. I didn't bother arguing; the heat from where his hands held me was keeping my mind occupied. He smelled so nice, and he felt warm. Warm…. a distant feeling, a feeling I have never experienced. Immediately, we entered his room, and I knew it belonged to him. It was plain; the walls were painted brown. The only things in the room were his bed and a working table. The windows were covered with black curtains. He laid me on the bed, and we just sat in silence. A knock came at the door. He opened it and brought in fresh towels and clothes for me. “I will run you a bath.” He left no room for arguments and left to draw the bath. “Take your time; I will see you later. He turned and walked towards the door. “Tell me if you need anything, please,” he said, closing the door behind him. After sitting for a while, I decided to go take a bath. The water was warm and scented with lavender. I relaxed inside and just laid there. Fresh tears ran down my cheeks. I couldn't remember the last time someone treated me with such care. I closed my eyes and relaxed. It felt a little peaceful here; for the first time in my life, I am not hiding in the bathroom or trying to bathe fast and leave before they lock me inside. My eyes jerk open when I hear the door to the room open and footsteps approaching. I immediately got out of the tub and fell while rushing to the end of the bathroom to hide. I covered my mouth tightly with my hand to avoid screaming, and I endured the pain of the fall. My body shook, my mind closed down, and my heart was pounding as I closed my eyes tight, waiting for what was to come. But instead of the harsh slaps and kicks I was expecting, I felt a tingling sensation in my mind. It was humming calmly, dragging me out of the abyss and into the light. I opened my eyes and realised no one was there. I was safe; I was in the Alpha's bathroom. “You are safe here; no harm will come to you for as long as I live.” The Alpha's voice came from the other side of the door. “I am sorry I invaded your mind; I had to do it to get you to calm down without breaking the door down,” he said with a soothing voice. Tears rolled down my eyes as I tried to control my breathing. I finished showering and dressed up in the room. “He must have come in to drop off my food when I heard the door open,” I thought to myself when I saw the tray of food. My cheeks reddened from the embarrassing moments. “He must think I am damaged and weak,” I thought sadly to myself. The platter was filled with different food. I picked out the ones I liked and ate them. I stuffed myself until I was filled. “It's been so long since I ate this much.” I smiled to myself. The door opened, and a lady entered, along with Alpha. I immediately became alert when I saw her carrying a tray filled with scissors and other sharp instruments. “You are finally showing your true colours! Are you going to harvest my organs? Is that why you fed me? I really thought you were different.” I was hysterical as I curled up at the end of the bed, holding out a pillow to defend myself. For a man so largely built, the pillow was a stupid idea, but it was my only idea right now. I looked at him, and his deep blue eyes were filled with emotions. His face looked like he was sad. I could tell because whenever I looked at myself in the mirror, I was met with such a look too, but I couldn't fathom the look in his eyes because no one had ever looked at me in that way. The lady smiled at me. Not in the way they used to smile at me at my former pack; this looked and felt different. “Hey, my name is Mia, the pack nurse. I heard you fell in the bathroom, so I came to check it out and get you treated. I need you to trust me, okay? I won't do anything to hurt you; I just want to help.” Her calm tone was soothing and reassuring. It made me calm down. I nodded, signaling for her to go ahead. “Excuse us, Alpha,” she said to the Alpha as he hovered around us. “I am staying.” He refused to bulge. “Give us some privacy, Mr man, and stop hovering around here like some hen that just laid eggs.” I was surprised by the way she talked to him. No one talks to the alpha that way. He looked like he had more to say, but she gave him a look that shut him up, and he left the room. “He is such a big baby.” She smiled at me as she checked everything to make sure I was okay. "Here, take this; the pills will ease the pain and also help you sleep. Thank God nothing was broken; it's just a bruise.” She smiled at me as I popped the pills in my mouth and drank water. “That wasn't so bad, was it? You did so well. I will tell them to leave some water on the table because you will constantly feel thirsty at night, but it will help you feel better in the morning.” She made to leave. “One more thing, you don't need to be scared here. No one will harm you, and everyone here is nice. Okay, that's it. Rest up. She turned and left. The Alpha came in with the water as the nurse instructed and left it on the table. “I am sorry for taking your room.” I told him in a low tone. “It's nothing; I don't mind. I am glad that you are comfortable. Have a good night's rest, and we can talk tomorrow.” He said reassuringly before leaving. I snuggled into the bed and took the blanket up to my nose; it smelled of him. His scent was calming. I closed my eyes, his lovely scent luring me to sleep. “I hope he doesn't change tomorrow,” was the last thing I thought before sleep took me.
