{Brooke}
The jet experience some turbulence along the way but eventually we made it to JFK International Airport safely. What was strange was that Xander was nowhere in sight.
"Mr. Reed's where is Xander?"
They stared at me angrily for some reason before returning to their cold state. "He has his own jet, Miss Rivers" Marco replied forcefully.
"Why couldn't I've gone with him then? Or boarded a commercial flight," I mumbled angrily, glaring at my empty, purseless, suitless, moneyless hands. "The Gala is on the fourth day so why did I have to come now?"
At this, the twins didn't respond but ignored me. "Why couldn't I've taken a commercial flight tomorrow?" my voice was filled with the irritation I felt. Marcu waved me off like I was a maid waiting to be called off.
"Miss Rivers, my brother and I will be heading to our hotel," Marco commented.
"And?"
"God are you so clueless. Where will you be heading towards to now, Miss Rivers?" he sighed. I looked around hastily for any escape or excuse. How embarrassing would it be to tell my bosses that I lost all my money and had nowhere to sleep or eat for seven days? I spotted a salad bar to my far right and an idea popped in my mind.
"I'm going to grab something to eat and go sight-seeing"
"Where will you be going to eat?"
"Mr. Reed, are you stalking me? Because last I knew, I wasn't required to answer your pestering questions" he clenched his jaw shut and looked past me. A big smile- no, a genuine grin fluttered across his lips. I blinked fiercely to make sure I wasn't hallucinating that my ever so serious bosses are grinning. I frowned and turned around. I wished I didn't.
"Marco? Marcus?" a girl, probably my age and who looked like a whole goddess towered above me by a foot. I was short for your average 23-year-old woman and she was a tall model. She had gold hair that would make Rumplestiltskin come after her, emerald green eyes, and a fair complexion. She looked bright and bold while I was dark and a bit gloomy.
"Maya, I knew you would be here to pick us up," Marcus grinned from ear-to-ear.
Maya snorted. "You wish"
Maya was slim whereas I was practically hollow. She was tall but still shorter than Marco and Marcus. "Here for the gala too?"
"Yep, the New York hospital won't get fund by just sitting there," I suddenly felt small compared to her. Maya was the head of a Hospital in the big city and I was a pediatrician. My confidence dissipated shockingly and it confused me to feel this way. Jealous. Jealous of the way too pretty girl who could be a model. Jealous at the fact of how freely the twins grinned freely around her. Maybe it was nausea. After all, I hadn't gotten anything in my stomach in a couple of hours.
Thankfully, I always kept forty bucks tucked into the side of my skirt. Twenty for cheap food and twenty for clothes. I'd be lying to myself if I told myself that forty bucks would be enough for a place to stay. The conversation between the twins and Maya seemed to be never-ending so I slinked away silently. I knew where the Gala would take place so, with any luck, I wouldn't see them in four days. But after I was two yards away Marcu said monotonelessly, "Oh, and this Miss Rivers. Our new pediatrician."
I stopped dead in my tracks when I heard them shuffling around when they didn't see me. "Miss Rivers?" Marco's voice sounded slightly annoyed that I cringed.
"Um, yeah?" I said stupidly and turned to face them. Maya studied me carefully and was careful to maintain a short distance between her and the twins.
"Where are you going?"
"Isn't this the part where we head our own ways?" I huffed, still jealous. "I know where the Gala will be held so I'm taking my leave now. See you in a couple of days!"
I turned away but Marcus's threatening voice sounded at me. "We don't have your number to contact you, Miss Rivers"
"Why would you even need to contact me anyways? Besides my phone is dead and I have no charge so it would be all for naught," I shrugged as Maya narrowed her eyes at me. I spotted a dollar store where I could buy a bag of potato chips and my mouth watered. "So, I'll be on my way now. This is a big city to explore."
I walked away nervously, feeling the twin's eyes on me. The Starbucks I passed by gave off its sweet scent of coffee. But if I want to survive seven days here with only 20 bucks for food I need to buy stuff in the dollar store. Thankfully, the airport has everything I'll ever need. I squirmed uneasily, feeling the twin's intense gaze still on me.
It fazed me so much that I didn't notice until now that someone was right behind me. I whirled around and bumped into a tray with two iced coffees that went spilling onto me and the unknown person. We both slipped onto the spilled coffee and met the floor in a matter of seconds.
"Great. Just wonderful!" I put my hands in the air, exasperated. To my opposite, was a guy, he looked around the same range as my twin bosses. His cheeks were red in embarrassment. "Why were you following me?"
"I'm sorry. I saw that you dropped a $20 bill," he pointed to a soaked bill in between us. "And I was about to give it to you but you had killer instincts."
I laughed all of a sudden. Those were part of a lost memory so it always made me happy. "Well, I'm soaked, you're soaked. What now?"
My soaked blouse was pressing against my bra so I folded my arms over my chest. He noticed and took something out of his backpack. "How about I give you my jacket?"
He gave it to me and I flushed embarrassingly. I took it gratefully. It was warm and cozy on the inside. A janitor was approaching with his mop so we stood up and stared at each other. Our hair was slightly wet with coffee so it flopped in our faces. We laughed at each other and he patted me on the shoulder. A strong growl echoed throughout the building and we stopped laughing. The guy's face became serious and he stood in front of me, shielding me from something.
"Move," Marco's voice was eerily calm. I poked my head out from behind the guy and saw Marco, Marcus, and a flustered Maya.
"Oh, it's fine strange guy. They're my bosses," I said and stood beside next to him. "What do you need Mr. Reed's?"
"For you to come with us, Miss Rivers," Marcus bit his lip and it looked like he was about to draw blood.
The guy, completely ignoring them asked me, "You're here for the Gala too?"
"Yep"
"What hospital do you own?" he asked and I turned as red as a tomato with embarrassment. My bosses smirked at me.
"I don't own a hospital. I was dragged here for some reason by them," I glare at the twins who stared curiously at me. "Mr. Reed's I don't see the problem here. I made a new friend in the city or is that prohibited."
"Strictly forbidden," Marco snapped.
"Excuse me?" I squeaked. Maya looked at me with wariness and I wished nothing but to glare at her but I couldn't because she had done nothing wrong to me. Yet.
"She's staying at my place and we were about to head out shopping," the guy nudged me like he was telling me to play along.
"She. Will. Not. Stay. With. You," Marcus growled. He must have vocal problems as I do. This was seriously confusing me and I need my meds which was forgotten in my purse somewhere back in Canada.
I tugged on the guy's sleeve and looked up at him. He was way too tall. I whispered lowly, "Is there a pharmacy here?"
His eyes filled with concern said, "Yeah, two blocks down."
"Well, Mr. Reed's, Maya, this has been a nice reunion but I'll be heading with..." I drawled and looked at the guy for him to finish the sentence by saying his name.
"Peter." Peter. My pupil's dilated and short gasp for air shot out of my mouth. A white lightly blinded my view as I felt a new memory coming into the light.
****
"Peter! You big meanie. i***t! Give me back Mr. Toddles," a girl who looked like me but with red hair and vibrant eyes with rosy lips and cheeks yelled fiercely as a 13-year-old boy. He wasn't Peter but a guy that always appeared in my memories.
"Looking for this?" he waved a beat-up teddy bear in my face. Another 13-year-old boy popped up next to him. He was Peter, his dark locks blocked his eyes cutely.
"Aw, Liam, give the teddy back don't you see she's furious," Peter cooed and Liam rolled his eyes.
"You always had a soft spot for her," he hisses and throws me the teddy lightly.
"Always for her," he whispered and cupped my cheeks when Liam disappeared.
****
The air knocked out of my lungs returned and the white light disappeared almost instantly. I was cuddled against a firm chest that didn't bring sparks but comfort and warmth.
"Brooke?" Peter called out and shook me gently.
I tried to scramble out of his arms but he held me in place and slowly put me down on my feet. Marco and Marcus were busy glaring at both of us. I stared into Peter's eyes to make sure he was the one from my memory.
"Do you know a Liam?"
"What?"
"Do you know someone named Liam?"
"Um, yeah. Why?"
I opened my mouth to say something but I remembered my audience. "Nothing. It's nothing."
"May you stop groping her?" Marco sneered and directed his attention to Peter's arm looped around my waist.
I groaned. "Mr. Reed,he is just helping me and either way why would it matter to you who he was to me?" I challenged.
"Nothing. It means nothing to me. Go do whatever you want. I don't give a f**k now," Marcus snapped and trudged away. His words stung, no- burned my heart but I had Peter now. Peter brought me a sense of...home.
