Chapter 2

922 Words

2 “She’s been gone too long,” Alice Kern told Major Zimholt. “She’ll freeze to death out there.” Marnie had been missing for over two hours. And Alice had only known about it for the past twenty minutes. She’d been down in the belly of the Factory, in one of the computer rooms, scrolling from one innocuous document to the next. Following the slightest trail of bread crumbs. Wielding her innate talent for patient and meticulous research. Somewhere in those files she would find answers. Answers to who was trying to kill her. And who had murdered her parents. Alice was twenty-six, small and dark like her Filipino mother, with long brown hair and calm, observant eyes. Because of her size, people often assumed Alice was younger than she was. Maybe a college student. Maybe even high school.
