Brighid*
It is amazing how the air smells and feels the same as sailing. If I closed my eyes I might even be fooled into believing that I was on a boat enjoying the ocean breeze. Although the absence of swaying back and forth was the only sensation missing. Maybe this was what freedom felt like, to have no worries or cares in the world. The smell alone was something I could get use to. A gentle giant was not what I had expected to come across when I was fleeing for my life. Had I the power to make time stand still I would use it in this very moment.
In the distance there was a small area breaking free from the ocean below. It looked like a blimpish upon the ever ending blue. How long would I be able to avoid the fate that was ever looming over my head? Why was it so difficult for others to comprehend that I was innocent and had no interest in their mediocre lives?
"How many dragons live in your village?"
A small chuckle filled my head as a husky voice replied "Thousands, I suppose. It has been ages since we had to worry about our numbers. Dragons are no longer scares as we once were little Agra."
"Wyre are you taking it easy on me? Do you normally fly so smoothly?"
"Are you in a rush to get to our destination? The ocean is my personal favorite sight. It fulfills all my senses and makes me feel complete. Are you bored? Would you prefer that we do barrel rolls Brighid?"
"Barrel Rolls? I am not sure my stomach could take that. Didn't you promise me that I would not be falling today?" guilt tugged at me as I pondered what awaited him at home. Did I force him to be mine and steal him from another? It was not my intention to harm anyone else. However, in my haste to save my own skin, I could have stolen someone's mate.
"Hold on tight, do not let go. Lay flat upon my back."
My mouth closed almost as quickly as I opened it, as Wyre began to plummet down towards the waves. Quickly, I flattened my body against his back as instructed. The ocean water hit his scales and foam began to form. "Take a deep breath Agra."
Time seemed to stand still as the water fully covered me in what seemed to be an instant. The massive dragon turned effortlessly under the water in an almost harmonious hypnotic way. It was as if he was somehow dancing with the flow of the water. There was no resistance and every motion seemed to be smoother than the last. He did one last turn, making a circle this time where his head and tail almost connected. It was flawless and so graceful almost as if this massive creature was weightless. As we broke free from the water, the cool air hit me, almost taking my breath away. It was easy to forget that it was fall now and the temperature was not made for me to go for a swim.
"Wyre how much further do we have?"
"Brighid? You are shivering we are here. Lets get you to shore and make you a fire."
Upon opening my eyes, I saw a small island in the center where there were lights which must be the village. The rest of the island seemed dark and with little else to give away that it was inhabited.
Carefully, Wyre landed on the sandy shore and kneeled again so that I could get my feet back on dry land. The wind wasn't as bad on the shore as it had been breaking through to the Sky from the sea. Or perhaps I had got use to it by now and was becoming numb.
Wyre slowly transformed before my eyes. His scales began to retract and his massive size slowly began to shrink back to the human form I had originally first gazed upon in the forest.
Ler stood tall, his ocean blue eyes giving me the once over. He frowned so deep that it seemed to send sorrow to those eyes as well. Was he upset about having to allow me to ride his dragon? Were my original fears true? Was there someone waiting there for his return?
"You're soaking wet. Your lips are almost blue. Let's get a fire going quickly. Don't need you catching a cold because of our entry into Dara." As he moved closer he ran his left hand through my hair. "So now your straight hair has wavy locks to it. Aren't you full of surprises little one. If I could have got you here without getting you damaged, I would have. The dance is needed to pass through the veil."
Taking my hand, Ler led me through the tree coverage to a clearing. There we found a fire pit waiting to be lit. Seating was placed surgically around as if this was a normal meet and greet. I watched as Ler pulled out a hidden drawer which held matches and k****e wood. Slowly, he added some k****e to the firewood before striking a match. The flame quickly ignited and the warmth soon brushed up against the chill in the air, causing me to move closer to the flame. The blue, orange and red flames danced harmoniously together in a hypnotic state.
"Not all dragons can make fire?"
Ler leaned against a nearby tree. He wasn't very close to the heat. In fact, he seemed to be avoiding the added heat. "No dragons represent the elements. We are not all fire dragons. This fire pit is here to warm up those dragons that are not water dragons. Just like you are cold due to the climate, so are the other dragons who don't have water as their main element. But witches can use all the elements, can they not? Although, of course, one is usually their strongest source for magic."
"Each dragon is a different element. So, when you help witches there is at least one of each element with them to do the spell? Yes, to answer your question. Most witches are forced to only be strong in one element. They can dabble a little with others but aren't usually very good at it. Earth Witches are for the most part considered leaders, since Earth is connected with all elements for them to have life."
"Dragons used depend on the spell at hand. When you are dry, we shall continue on our way."
